Disappointed we were not informed of limited menu due to a previous kitchen fire.
Had to reconsider what to eat when presented with limited menu. Went there after reviewing menu on line with dining choices already decided.
Our server was lovely and did her best to accommodate under the circumstances.
I would check before going back to see that kitchen is fully operational. But will be back!!!
Always love the smith. Wait staff is hit or miss - some are super friendly, some are not A+. The food is amazing and they do not skimp on portions. I will never stop coming here!
We visited The Smith-East Village yesterday. We often frequent the other The Smith locations, but we were i pleasantly surprised with our experience at this location. At some point, there was a kitchen fire that has limited their ability to provide a full service menu (this is not highlighted anywhere for customers to make an informed decision). Thus, the items we wanted were unavailable. Moreover, the choices that were available were less than appetizing and/or cold. Our waitress was amazing but the food was a major disappointment.
It was great! My boyfriend wanted grey goose in his Moscow mule and the waitress forgot to mention there was an up charge and gave us two shots on the house! Great service!!
We love eating at The Smith. This was the first time at this location. They had a kitchen fire in December, so they currently have a reduced menu.
Hope they will be able to recover from the kitchen fire soon and have their full menu back up.
Love The Smith, especially this location. Looking forward to you bringing back the mac&cheese and tomato soup!
Miss the old menu - omelettes, free cocktail, etc.
Amazing service and delicious food, as always. If you want reliable, enjoyable dining any time of day, visit the East Village Smith! Not sure how they dress the salad so perfectly, but they never fail to do so. And same with the mint in the fruit salad - yum! We tried the potato waffles for the first time and it won’t be the last! Great for vegetarians and meat eaters.
Getting a table and high chair was seamless but the food took a while.
We were going to look at bridal gowns and decided to book this place based on menu and our availability with time. After getting there and getting seated the menu stated there was a limited menu due to a kitchen fire. Something like that should really be posted on open table I would have booked somewhere else. Our food was good. But it wasn’t what I wanted but with a time constraint we decided to just stay.
Great food service and atmosphere for NYE. Would recommend
They had a kitchen fire with a very limited menu. Dishes were delivered without sides described on the menu and had to be requested.
Wouldn’t recommend visiting this location of The Smith right now. They recently had a fire and have a very limited menu and have even run out of things on that menu. Pretty limiting for vegetarians specifically. Come back in a few months once they have their full kitchen back.
The staff could not have been nicer. There was an unfortunate event that happened at another smith restaurant which caused them to be shut down for the night. Our reservation was personally changed. We were compensated with the change by being offered free appetizers and dessert
Great place to go for dinner and drinks before a show at Webster Hall. Great food and Service!
The steak and the chicken were both fabulous and the ambiance was lively and comfortable.
Only one of our entrees came out. Had to wait about 20 minutes for the second entree even though both entrees were ordered at the same time.
I made a reservation for 4 people. Two we’re running late. They still would not seat until entire party was there which negates the whole reason for making the reservation. They were seating walk ups in front of my reservation. Only when I pointed out that they were seating 2s and 3s at 4-tops ahead of my reservation for 4 did they relent and give me a table.
The Smith is one of our favorites! We visit at least once every time we visit NYC!
We were a party of 7 and sat downstairs which was fine because it was not as loud and noisy as upstairs. We were seated as a party of 7 at a table for 6 with 4 adults squished onto the banquet and 3 people on the other side of the table in chairs. Yes, we should have said we were uncomfortable, but the restaurant should have put a chair at the end of the table to accommodate our 7th guest more comfortably. On a really great note, one of our guests is gluten-free and the restaurant was very accommodating and made her feel comfortable that they knew what they were doing with regard to her gluten-free meal.
Food was flavorful
The table was just too small - that really messed up the vibe for the evening
Always a hit. It is expensive, but reliable. Great place to take out of town guests and you can’t beat a place that takes brunch reservations.
Our second Thanksgiving at the Smith. Our adult kids both live in NYC- one in Soho , the other in Brooklyn. Our daughter suggested the Smith last year and we liked it so much that we signed up again. The food was good , the service excellent and we just enjoyed the positive atmosphere. We will continue to come to the Smith. ( We were up in August to celebrate our anniversary and came to the Smith for a great meal )
We spent Thanksgiving evening here. Casual atmosphere, great food - and lots of it! Set menu with choices, everything we had were good.
An exceptional evening! Atmosphere, service and food were wonderful. Looking forward to our next visit to The Smith!
Thanksgiving dinner here was delish, relaxing and wonderful! We sat for over two hours and was not rushed out. Restaurant was very busy, mixed crowd of couples and families. Even though very busy, the noise level was fine, you could talk and hear each other at the table. Great value for the meal and the service was excellent. Our waiter was attentive, polite and accommodating.
The Smith does a really nice job with having options for all diets on Thanksgiving, along with family-style sides and festive drinks. It can be a little loud, but the staff is great and everyone is in a good mood.
The whole experience was very good. In spite of the large crowd the service was quick and with a smile. Their staff is always so friendly, a big plus. Just a bit loud but that's what crowds are like!
Delicious, accommodating to our large family, including a toddler.
I went to lunch at The Smith and had a terrific meal. The butternut squash salad and the cod sandwich with fries were both delicious. The birthday cake was outstanding. The service was very good and the prices quite reasonable for the quality and quantity.
The service was amazing. I didn’t like a dish because it was way too strong and the waiter offered to change it for me. Our food was really good. I recommend going.
Somewhat inattentive staff
The young ladies who call themselves hostesses are terrible...my wife is pregnant and has trouble standing for long periods and yet they still wouldn’t seat us for brunch. We were waiting for two others to join us but so what...what pompous jerks your hostesses are :/ the rest of our party came literally 2 minutes after we were finally seated. One of the hostesses thought better and seated us after we stood around for more than 5 minutes...it’s not like we didn’t have a reservation and we are frequent customers.
Always a solid, reliable brunch / dinner spot with yummy cocktails, fairly good coffee & trendy modern American fare
Great food and service!
Great mid range value restaurant. Great service and menu choice. Always consistent level of food produced.
The Smith is my usual favorite, and where my boyfriend and I always go for date night or ordering in; but this night was a little off - solely food wise. My pasta came out a bit cold and was not the best on top of it (not sure if the temperature had something to do with it). Great side of broccolini; mostly stuck to eating that.
