Both the food and service were very good, but I do think they could do a bit better of a job with the outdoor heating lamps. The seating enclosures had about a half heating lamp per party of 2. Hoping for at least 1 lamp per party.

Was nice. We were placedoutside by the entrance door and would have rather had a booth for space / warmth. But as always the food and drinks were amazing. Will always be our favorite date night restaurant :)

It was for my birthday and the food was really good

Food was very good, my party got the pork chop, NY strip and mac & cheese. However there isn’t a heat lamp for every booth so it got cold towards the end of the meal.

Staff very friendly and good food. Didn’t like waiting 20mns even with reservation.

MISERABLE ... Absolutely not suitable for outdoor winter dining. Some places are bearable. This one is not. We left after appetizers. Server was the opposite of friendly

We didn’t have a heater by our table so that made our dinner a little uncomfortable.

With the world being how it is, I’m so grateful for The Smith! There are separators between each table, ample outdoor seating, and heat lamps at every table! The service hasn’t missed a beat and has always been and continues to be great- and same goes for the food. Going out to eat may not be top priority but to have the option and feel more normal about the shitstorm that is 2020 is great! Thanks The Smith!

It’s so hard eating out now with indoor dining shut but we decided to go to The Smith for brunch. The waitress was wonderful! So attentive and friendly. Their rule to mask up when a waiter comes to the table is very smart. Of course the staff (and customers) should exercise the utmost caution so we can all be safe. I reinvented the eggs Benedict to a veggie one by substituting the Canadian bacon with avocado and there was no problem whatsoever. Everything was delicious although it all got cold due to eating outside in January! We were well socially distanced with plexiglass and plastic dividers and heat lamps above. My only comment is I wish there were more of an enclosure so it might be a little bit warmer. We were open to the elements on one side so it was hard to get warm. All in all it was a wonderful experience!

Perfect outdoor seating experience. Everyone wearing masks. Felt safe. Heaters worked well in 37 degrees outside. Food was excellent. Most delicious french toast. Burgers tasty, fries very good. Would definitely return!

This was my second time at The Smith. First was for a marvelous Thanksgiving dinner of turkey with all the trimmings. This time I order the blackened porkchop with some excellent spicy grits. Just as yummy. I'll be back.

The best and safest outdoor dining experience I’ve had all fall!! Warm heaters everywhere and plexiglass used where 6’ distancing is not in place. Super friendly waitstaff.

The Smith is always a favorite restaurant of mine and this was my first time going during the pandemic. They took all the social distance and safety measures and did an excellent job considering the circumstances. Will be back!

Consistently quality food. Staff is accommodating to tweaks to the menu. Pretty good value for what it is - on the less expensive side of more upscale places

Sat on patio. Good protocols. Heater wax between table so only one side felt it. Service great. Food varied and really good.

The problem was the COVID protocol was too OVERKILL. The server wouldn't come to the table, unless everyone had masks on. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? I eat in lots of restaurants in the City, and Never had this experience. Quite annoying. The server would stand 4+ feet away till we all had masks on while we are eating. they wont see me there.

Mussels had way too much garlic, salad was tasteless

My Husband and I went on Thanksgiving and were so happily surprised. There was a Prefix with lots of sides included and we were both thrilled with the food and the entire experience. The waitstaff could not have been any nicer and we felt completely safe. There was plenty of space, they took our temperatures and address, and we were asked to wear our masks whenever a server came to our table. We brought home the extras because there was so much and enjoyed it the next day. Will go back soon!

Always loved the Smith food and vibe, but especially excited by their current outdoor dining setup — well heated but absolutely no walls! Sensible yet comfortable — one of the few New York restaurants doing it right!

We stopped by this evening with a reservation for dinner at 7:15. We are trying to support our restaurants as much as we can during this pandemic. A few minutes after sitting down we were approached by a waiter who asked if he could take our order. We said we would like to order a drink before ordering our meal. Waiter said NO ITS AGAINST THE LAW to serve a drink with out food being provided at the same time. We asked to see manager. He came over and repeated the same line. We said we did not come to drink and that we came for DINNER and would like our glass of wine first and then dinner to follow. He said that wasn’t possible and that they “follow the law”. We got up and left. The only restaurant in the past 2 months to treat us like this AWFUL AWFUL. We asked if we could place the order for food and have it come after our drinks. He said “no”. Many tables had people with drinks and no food. Sad we will never go back to the Smith .

My favorite place in the East Village. Great and friendly service. Cocktails are always on point. Good choices in the food department. The apple pie is a diet deal breaker.

I’ve always loved The Smith and this is my favorite location. And Erica, the new waitress who took care of me the two most recent times I was there is a wonderful and warm person.

This is my solid sure bet and I can’t recommend it enough.

I am really picky about outdoor dining & The Smith E. Village has been my best experience so far — other restaurants should copy their process & protocols! Service was smooth, easy, and most of all, SAFE for me & for the restaurant employees. Plus, the food is great, as ever! Tip well at The Smith! The team is making a huge effort & it’s appreciated.

Been going here for years since it opened and have some favorite dishes. Glad it is still here and taking the pandemic seriously. I appreciate the extra caution to mask while the waiter comes. its a little annoying but it is a better safe than sorry scenario

The chips with clue cheese fondue are great, but make sure to eat them while they're hot! And you can never go wrong with the salmon.
