About The Smile
Tucked away in a landmarked 1830s townhouse on picturesque Bond Street, The Smile is the perfect setting for delicious food in a relaxed and cozy atmosphere. The Smile's American/Mediterranean menu is seasonally focused and designed by executive chef and former art world caterer, Melia Marden. While popular with the lunch and coffee crowd, "the dimly lit, wood-ceilinged space feels even more charming and tavernesque at night." The restaurant is open seven days serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as well as weekend brunch.

The Smile Ratings and Reviews
Beautiful rustic decor, great neighborhood. Dessert was wonderful. Dinner was ok. Nothing was hot. Quality of steak seemed top notch and cooked well but, again, not even really warm. Meatballs too were seasoned very well but did not come out hot. Potatoes served with steak were underwhelming- just covered with mustard and a bit undercooked. Plating was extremely simple- one might expect something a bit fancier for the price and location. Overall pleasant.
We had a family get together at The Smile on a Saturday night. The place is warm and welcoming, and we tried a bit of everything. The appetizers and salads were delicious, especially the melon, grapefruit, pistachio and feta salad. Our dinners ranged from salmon to hanger steak, and it was all great. The duck breast with the soy-honey gastrique stole the show. Uncharacteristically, I polished mine off and didn't share a single bite! The desserts (banana toffee tart and peach-blueberry galette) were terrific, too.
Very cute, brick walls, wooden tables, nice vibe....but we were very disappointed! Food was terrible. Coffee was undrinkable. Even when I asked for a different serving. Brownie with whipped cream was excellent, but meal was unsatisfying and menu very limited.
The place is super charming: it feels like a secret spot - quiet, intimate, cozy, and cool. I would gladly return to eat some more of the amazing food. The steak, chicken and duck were all perfectly cooked and very delicious. Service was incredibly friendly. This place won't burn a hole in your pocket but it's not exactly cheap either... that's the only fault I can find.
The best thing about the ambiance at The Smile is that the tables aren't so close together, so you don't have to look at the cell phone images of the adjacent diners. Service is OK--a bit perfunctory, but everything got done appropriately. The food was very good (we had hanger steak and duck, both on the rare side but delicious). Things went smoothly, which can only be good at a restaurant.
We had an awesome dinner! The food was seriously perfect. Really healthy menu, with a unique and super flavorful twist. From a salmon tartar and cooked twist to start, to an amazing kale and bean salad with the most yummy dressing, to a chicken dish that was off the charts, cooked to perfection and so tasty, duck and farro dish that was one of a kind, and a salmon dish so good! You may think I am the owners relative- i'm not. But I am a brand founder, of an oral care brand GLO, and I know that when someone has a real experience and they share it, that feels so good. Also so fitting the name, the smile, as that is what we bring to our customers that GLO.:-) This restaurant deserves this review. The atmosphere is perfect, chill, authentic, cozy, not overdone. The people that work there are real. They are chill, smart, efficient and caring. Its a 10+. try it, you wont be sorry
The waitress was very rude to us and seemed attentive to other tables, but we must have done something unknowingly to make her not like us. I came with 2 of my girlfriends and we ordered 2 bottles of wine and apps to share, but found it comical how rude and judgmental the waitress was. Will come back bc like the food and ambiance, but hopefully the manager continues to train the staff.
Never noticed this place, which is tucked in down a few stairs in a part-basement, until we saw it on Open Table. The menu looked inviting, so we booked, and what a delight! The marinated goat cheese salad left me smiling even the next day ... pun not intended. The service was friendly and top notch; the entire experience was memorable and, yes, leaves one smiling.
Usually The Smile is a knockout - great fresh food; lively atmosphere; friendly service. However, this visit was a disappointment. Our server was too cool for school, ignoring us most of the time and giving us attitude the rest of the time. Even when the place was mostly empty it was hard to get her attention to put any orders in. This made the rest of the meal feel disappointing since we had to wait so long for the food. Hopefully this experience was a one-off, but I recommend the mgmt to make sure their servers are all on the job! I want to keep loving and returning to The Smile
Charming, cozy space for dinner. Friendly, prompt service. I recommend the Marinated Goat Cheese for an appetizer and the Plum Boulevardier for a cocktail. Seasonal vegetables and quinoa is good if you want a healthy entrée, but I'm really looking forward to trying the salmon next time I come. Highly recommend!
Came to The Smile for Mother's Day and it was fabulous! We were seated at our favorite table, all the way in the back by the garden windows. The ambiance is perfect and quaint, like being in someone's beautiful living room. The food was stellar. Great time!
We had a wonderful dinner, the food was amazing. The noise acoustics in the back of the restaurant were deafening...there were three of four very loud tables of people screaming over each other talking. Otherwise, it was a perfectly lovely dinner. We will most certainly be back.
Pretty and surprising location. Nice decor. The wine was excellent as we could taste a very limited edition bottle. My chicoree salad was mixed with fennel and...chili and a sour sauce, not really my taste and the lamb meatballs were ok. My friends tried a wonderful fish as starter and some excellent brisket afterwards. Maybe I made the wrong choices.
