It was a very nice dinner, however the restaurant was about 90 degrees. It made for an uncomfortable experience.
Love the quiet hidden gem this is... such a great vibe. Get a seat by the fireplace.
Really lousy service during low volume period.
I am not a vegetarian, but the vegetable dishes were so good, I didn't need anything else!
I have been going to The Smile for many years, its a local neighbourhood restaurant that never fails to deliver consistently good meals, in a cozy environment with great friendly staff. The food is always fresh and delicious. Perfect for a date night, or with friends.
We decided to have my wife's post-birthday breakfast here at The Smile and I was glad we did. The spot itself looks cozy and inviting from the outside and doesn't change upon entering. The space was beautiful! Reminded me of an 1800's general store! The brick, stone, iron and copper aesthetics work well together with the lighting and overall feel of the space. The food offerings were plentiful and good. From the baked goods to the main courses there wasn't a shortage of things to choose from! Most of us at the table ordered something different and we were all impressed with what we received! So much that we shared our meals with each other!
All in all, I would highly recommend this place for breakfast and good conversations. We will definitely go back to The Smile when visiting NY!
Delicious lamb meatball appetizer!
I like the atmosphere of this restaurant, though it was a bit loud on Saturday night. The food is always good, but I wish they had a bigger selection on the menu. The service was fine. Overall, it is a restaurant I will frequent when in the area.
Quite disappointing-- really bad service and small portions. Waiter would take ages to bring food out and did not refill the bottomless coffees. Not worth the value.
What a treasure! Found this restaurant thanks to Open Table and my friends and I will definitely return. The food was great, service was friendly and ambiance was lovely.
Fantastic brisket and very enjoyable. The server seemed mildly annoyed about something for some reason. We had questions about the food because we were genuinely interested in its preparation. She seemed to have limited knowledge of its preparation and didn't volunteer to find out more for us which I think would've been the appropriate thing to do. We previously enjoyed a breakfast there a few days prior, but were not as pleased by the dinner or the service. The kale salad was particularly salty. Extremely so. We recently visited The Smile To Go in Dumbo and sampled the same salad there and the taste was so different I thought maybe it was a different recipe. Both versions were disappointing. One way too salty another rather bland. The brisket was excellent. Soft, flavorful and wonderfully accompanied. I'd be curious to try other dishes at this establishment. I do wish our server had been a bit more upbeat and friendly.
The Smile is a lovely place for a fun or romantic dinner, with a old downtown feel. The short menu is seasonal and delicious. Don’t necessarily take the waitress’s advice on wine. “ Funky” was definitely... funky. Charming service, not too rushed.
Food was good- definitely enjoyed the in house pastries. Ambiance is cool, and reasonably priced brunch , no frills would definitely go back
The place is really cute, and cozy, the food was very good, but the service was terrible. Couldn't be bothered to make eye contact, threw plates around and spilled water on me because she was too busy being a hipster to be a good waitress. I won't be back... even though i dream about that brisket.
Servers were very rude and obviously overwhelmed by crowded restaurant. As a former brunch server myself, it was very frustrating to have such angry servers. For such a pricey meal, it was disappointing, but the food was amazing!
Cute restaurant .The food was good.A bit noisy for the older generation.Very vibrant and a good place 30 yr olds. Great service from Ariel!
The Staff was amazing and super accommodating. The food was excellent I would definitely recommend the SMILE to my friends and family
The Smile is a great little NOHO surprise. Everything tastes amazing!! PRO TIP: the Spaghetti in Lemon Sauce tastes AMAZING, but the serving size is wildly small for an entree. If you're HUNGRAY, I'd go with the Pork Loin or Braised Brisket. As an end game, GET THE GELATO. Enjoy!
Although the restaurant was nearly empty, they put three of us in the entranceway at a table that was tiny and never should have been there. I asked to be moved and they said all other tables were for 4 and reserved. In spite of my telling them I was so unhappy with my table, they would not move me and my party left. Unacceptable.
Pros: Mezze plate was refreshing, cozy atmosphere, good location.
Cons: We battled tenacious fruit-flies THE ENTIRE MEAL. At least 5 were trying to land on our food & this place has an "A". They circled, we swatted & they were in the filthy bathroom too. The staff just watched & murmured sorry after we pointed it out. The braised rib was dry but the veggies were good.
Maybe if they did the right thing, like comp our App or coffee, we'd try again but they didn't so we will never go back. No one on staff or in charge looked older than 18.
They were out of warm spiced cider and bourbon and the warm brownie, which, given how cold it is outside, I would think would be stocked up. I was sad to miss both of those.
The restaurant was almost empty at lunchtime, but they still seated us close to the entrance. we asked for changing the table but it was not possible. Food was ok, nothing special, expected more.
The food we had was very good, especially the brisket, delicious !!!!
My only comment was that the dessert was not good at all! Especially the chocolate dessert!
I regretted i oedered it :(
We spent new years eve, the place is beautifull, the hostest are friendly and respectfull, we had a special menú, but includes fish, meat and pasta, the dissert was an awesome lemmon cheescake. Dont miss it
New Year’s Eve
Food was good but the portions were ridiculously small. The waitstaff was very nice and helpful. Good atmosphere and location.
Charming cafe-looking restaurant with some great food options. All simply prepared but interesting, and on the healthy side.
Housed in an 1830s townhouse, The Smile is a cozy place for wine or cocktails, along with delicious Mediterranean-inspired treats.
great food, friendly staff and cosy environment where it's not loud (which is so rare in NY...) so you can actually enjoy a good chat with friends!
Nice ambience. Food was good. Music fit my taste, classic rock and motown mostly 60's, and was not too loud. Very pleasant dining experience.
Great food, great atmosphere and very reasonable pricing!
We had an absolutely wonderful Thanksgiving dinner. The food and atmosphere were fantastic and the "family style" service made it feel like we were at home. We decided to have Thanksgiving here after I had attended a FEED supper in Dumbo in September and learned that THE SMILE donated all food and drink and services for this amazing charitable supper; my partner and I had dinner on Bond Street once since then and knew it was perfect for Thanksgiving with his Mother. I wish I knew about THE SMILE before, we are often in NoHo and did not know it was there. We will definitely now be regulars! (At a previous dinner on Bond Street, I was so happy to see large and small plates, including very healthy and vegetarian and vegan options (for when I am being "good" but my partner can eat whatever they please!) and know that I can trust the food preparation for friends with dietary restrictions. They even had Thanksgiving vegetarian and vegan options!). LOVE this place! (FYI: There are a few steps down to the restaurant; my beau's 86 year-old-mother was able to navigate this just fine, but good to know re: anyone who needs an accessible entrance.)
In comparison to our 2 previous thanksgiving meals, this time we felt the portions were too small. There wasn’t enough stuffing or mash potatoes for the 3 of us to enjoy. And although we are grateful, we just wanted to let you know the we were a tad disappointed in the amount of food.
Beautiful restaurant, love the cozy basement vibe and the seasonal menu.
Pleasant cozy restaurant. Nice food and friendly staff. Would definitely come here again.
Cute place.
Loved everything about The Smile. The food, the service, the low-key atmosphere felt very comfortable. All made my husband and I smile.
the food was really amazing but the service was average. One of the waiters kept bumping into my chair, without even apologizing. And the noise level was really hard to bear.
Charming, relatively quiet, welcoming staff and amazing food. Good value. We’ll be back.
A charming atmosphere, rustic, old bricks, not so loud, you can actually talk here, and the food was interesting and yummy.
