Cornbread pancakes were some of the best pancakes I’ve ever had. They are giant and great to share. My boyfriend loved the shrimp and grits, as well.
great food and service as always
A bit noisy. Dining experience was excellent.
I will try to make this brief. We've been to Silver Dollar about 6-8 times in the past. This time seemed to be on the right track, I was able to set up the reservations online quickly and easily. In addition, the person on the phone was very nice and helpful when I needed to move my reservatiom from 2000 to 2030.
Once we were promptly seated, we waited for 7-10 minutes for our server to greet us. Once he was there, he didn't apologize for the wait, did not introduce himself and got straight to drinks. Nothing personable, more off-putting was the fact that this husky gentleman was dress in what appeard to be gym clothes with a sloppy ponytail. He wasn't rude, but he clearly didn't care, either.
We got some drinks (Cidergeist and a Mimosoa, Miller Lt bottle with dinner) and fried pickles that were very good.
What was disapppointing was the two $32 Steak and Potato plates that we got (My Wife and I joked that we thought the server would perk up after we confirmed that he could work himself to a $20, he didn't)
The steaks were underseasoned, fatty and cool. The potatoes were good, but for a $32 plate, I felt like should have walked away more satisfied.
The was the most disappointing experience we've had at Silver Dolar. Given the occasion, poor service and subpar dinner, my wife and I have decided that we will not return to the Silver Dollar.
What a great experience. We had a good time and the food was AWESOME!!!!
Excellent food and service every time.
I've wanted to try the Silver Dollar for years but kept forgetting about it. I won't anymore! The service was great, the place had a great vibe and charm and the food was really good!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Silver Dollar in all aspects! However....the volume of the music is much too high. I always enjoy background music;even at a high level. But the sound level is SO high you can’t hear the food server or even have a conversation at your table without yelling. Thanks!!
As always, everything was great, especially the fried pickles! Love this restaurant - always a place I bring out of town guests to as it never disappoints. Keep doing what you are doing cause it’s working!
My husband and I have eaten here several times for dinner and brunch. We usually always have good service and good food. This time the service was very bad. After our server took our order and told us our food would take awhile she completely ignored us. We sat with no water or drink for about 15 minute when I had to stand up and flag her down to come give us more water and let us order another cocktail. We order the beer can hen which was very small in comparison to the beer can chicken and is the same price which was also overcooked. We were sharing this and we also had to track down our server to bring us an extra plate. So for the first time we didn't have a good experience and our meal was not cheap so to have to beg for service did not make us happy. We will come back but we are definitely going to give this place a break for a little bit.
Originally a horse-and-carriage firehouse in the 1890s, Silver Dollar is now a honky tonk with a southern-inspired menu. Silver Dollar's "Whiskey by the Drink" spirit menu is laden with authentic modern and classic (1940!) bourbon selections sorted by distillery, plus moonshine, wheat whiskey, rye, and seasoned bourbon -- all from the Bluegrass State as well as a few out of state interlopers. You can pair your drink with hearty dishes such as hickory-smoked beef brisket, flank and eggs, chicken & waffles, and brunch specialties like cornbread pancakes and a Texas chili and hashbrowns plate.
Restaurant music was way too loud. Had to yell to talk to others in my party. Poor selection in bbq sauces to go on the pulled pork. Waitress forgot to tell us about the extremely hot sauce until it was too late! Chicken livers were good. Not much of a variety on the menu. Didn't like the mac & cheese. Not sure what kind of cheese(s) they are using. Service was good, not outstanding. We still had to wait for a table even though we used "priority seating". Not sure if we would go back. Maybe we'll give them one more try when the weather is better and we can sit outside and we'll bring our own bottle of bbq sauce. Overall, not very impressed.
This is our annual valentine’s dinner and this year was the best by far. Each table got a rose and two truffles after the meal was finished. Last year we had crappy service for the first time, but this year, they more than made up for it on every level, and they gave us not one but two free desserts for last year’s experience. So happy we can continue on our valentine’s tradition here year after year.
Fantastic. Great environment. Felt like I was back in kentucky
Amazing food, drink, and atmosphere!
This is my favorite spot in Louisville. Always great food. Warm, fun, and staff/service with the greatest sense of hospitality and pride in their work. Love the SD.
Glad we used Open Table the restaurant filled up quickly. The barbecue grilled chicken thighs were amazing. Boneless. Moist. Spicy. And an over abundance of them. I took half home for lunch. The restaurant is very loud, dark (I used the table candle to read the menu) and the tables for two are cozy small.
The food is delicious.
Great place to catch up with friends!
It was great!
The burger was AMAZING
New to town and chose this for a date and had a great time with good food and ambiance.
Old fire station turned restaurant and bar. Great cocktails and veg-friendly food options. Loved the fried pickles. Service with a smile!
Awesome as always!
Wonderful food (as always) and friendly staff. Love this place. Music was a tad loud for 5 pm indoor dining but the music selections were great but hard to hear if you have a party of 5+.
We always enjoy being there, however last couple of times the brisket was already gone...it seems if it's a dinner item it should be better available. That is indeed frustrating.
Silver Dollar is an excellent spot for great brunch and strong tasty Bourbon cocktails. I used priority seating for brunch on New Years Eve and although ae were late (sorry Silver Dollar), we were still seated very quickly (thanks!) The food is soooo tasty and comforting (fried green tomatoes)
Five of us went there on a Sunday morning for brunch. Their reservation system is priority seating but since we arrived when they opened at 10 am it was no problem getting a table, and they already had one set up for us. Had a biscuit basket with jam while we enjoyed our coffee, then chilaquiles, huervos rancheros, and smoked chicken enfrioldes. The food was delicious! We all loved our meals and enjoyed the variety of sauces they provide at the table that vary in spice level. Loved the old country music playing and the service was outstanding. First time having brunch here, and we will all definitely be back.
On our first but not last visit to the Silver Dollar, we were please with food and service. It was a busy Saturday night but we were able to get a table. The servers kept things moving with drinks arriving shortly after we ordered followed by crispy, yummy fried chicken livers. That appetizer portion would be better for a table of 4, but the 2 of us managed to finish them off. Then our main courses arrived. The burger was good and the brisket was amazing. I can't imagine that our order was a normal amount - it looked like the Fred Flintstone serving. Delicious and smoky with or without the sauces.
I loved the priority seating through the Open Table website. I was pleasantly surprised at the fried catfish in the menu. It was the best fried catfish I ever had. Seating was fast and the servers are friendly and attentive. I would come back to The Silver Dollar again.
Great food, nicest staff ever. I’d never had chicken and waffles before, and server explained the appeal. Really enjoyed this dish, especially when you use syrup and the hot sauce. Fantastic cocktail, with Bourbon, honey, lemon, really hit the spot. Thanks, team, for a great time.
Stopped in on a friend's recommendation. The chipotle eggs were worth the trip! Seriously, one of the best things I tasted in Louisville. The brisket was also delicious. Decent beer selection. Excellent Bourbon and Rye selection, of course. Bar staff was a little inattentive, but solid experience overall.
I have visited the Silver Dollar on many occasions, and have never been disappointed. How can you go wrong, it’s in an old firehouse.
One of the best spots in Louisville!! Great atmosphere, good food and the best cocktails you’ll find in the city!
Great food, great cocktails/beer list
Love this place!
Perfect for entertaining out of town guests looking for local atmosphere & food
dinner on the kentucky bourbon trail
Wonderful food and service as always. Call ahead priority seating was great.
I rarely write reviews on Open Table, but Silver Dollar deserves a five star review. Every second of our experience from the ambiance to the service to the food was top notch. We were visiting from out of town and said we'd drive the 2 hours just to come back for brunch again! What a lovely time!
First time for the weekend brunch. Great and huge pancakes. it was a little noisy, but OK.
