The Wordsworth Hotel and Spa in Grasmere is a luxurious and historic Lakes District Hotel that has hosted royalty, American presidents and world famous artists and poets. With its spectacular views out across the village of Grasmere and its access to the beautiful walks within the Lake District National Park – this is a fantastic weekend escape, and the hotel’s Signature Restaurant provides a two AA rosette worthy British menu. This restaurant has a cosy neutral décor with lashings of taupe and burgundy, and the family-run nature of this establishment ensures friendly service. The hotel's entrance appeared dowdy and dated, but the garden and terrace at the back were beautiful. The service was peculiar. It was formal and even a bit pompous, but the menu was baffling, other diners seemed to be offered more options/specials, and we had to ask several times for a glass of wine which finally arrived at the end of our main course. On top of it all, we were charged twice for desserts. We will not be returning to this place.

We booked lunch at the Wordsworth Hotel Signature Restaurant on Easter Sunday. We arrived a little early so enjoyed a drink in the hotel bar which was very pleasant. We expected the restaurant to be full but found ourselves the only people to be dining which was a bit of a bizarre experience considering it was Easter in the Lake District - we thought it would be packed! But no matter. We were shown to a lovely table right near the window so were able to watch the world go by and enjoy being in the dry while it rained outside! We opted for main course and dessert rather than a starter and main. I chose the Poussin and my husband had Haloumi - both were absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. Although we did not opt for wine due to driving, the wine list is extensive with some great quality options; the nice touch was having a recommended wine beneath each main course option, which we duly chose and both complimented the meals perfectly. We shared the assorted desserts platter which were gorgeous! Above all else, though, the standard of service at the restaurant was excellent. Staff were courteous and attentive without being obtrusive and I felt a little sorry that they did not have more to do! The room itself is lovely - light and airy with a large window looking out onto the village. I really enjoyed the experience and will definitely return. Excellent food, excellent service - nothing better than that!

The food was excellent and some of the surprising food combinations on the menu were well put together and delicious. My only criticism would be that some of the staff were a little inexperienced and more attentive service could have enhanced our dining experience.

We had a delightful time at Signature. The wait staff was very accommodating and the food was first class. All of the dishes were carefully prepared with an exquisite blend of flavors. The chef is flexible and created a special dessert for me to meet my dietary needs. We highly recommend this place!

The Signature was a great birthday treat whilst visiting the lakes. we were treated well by staff and the food was delicious and plentiful. The decor was pleasing and staff friendly.

We have had lovely meals here before. This time took parents and were disappointed. Service was not great, given wine but not asked to taste. No explanation of the appetiser. Nothing terrible but we booked for a fine dining experience, and expect a little more when tue bill is nearly 300 pounds.

Chose this location for my husbands birthday- very quiet and subdued atmosphere - large conservatory setting overlooking the main road through Grasmere - food excellent - 4 courses for £29.95 -staff slightly amateurish but would return.
