The Shores Restaurant - La Jolla Shores Hotel Ratings and Reviews
I am a long time San Diego resident and we had some out of town visitors that we wanted to take to lunch/brunch on a Sunday. We wanted a place with ocean view, reservations, and a good menu. This place met those requirements. It ended up for the first time in our lives we were the only party in a big restaurant. The decor is outdated. Why there was no one else there on a Sunday at noon in La Jolla in a hotel restaurant on La Jolla shores beach still concerns us and puzzles us? The food was good, the service was very good, but the environment was almost haunting! Our experience was further dampened by learning on leaving the garage that we need validation at the restaurant, so we had to park and go back to the restaurant to the hostess and get validation. Then upon exiting we learned, even though we were the only customers, the validation was good for only an hour and we had to pay $5 additional for parking. A very puzzling experience that I could not recommend to others without explanation.
Thanksgiving Dinner: We terribly regret choosing this restaurant from the many restaurants offering Thanksgiving dinner. Although the menu looks interesting, the reality was one of the most unappetizing meals, even allowing for a buffet.
The meats on the carving station were all poor. Even though there was a beautiful-looking whole turkey, the only meat served was cut from a slab of dry white meat. The ham was salty without the flavorful smokiness or spice expected. The prime rib was tough.
Most cooked items in the buffet looked overcooked. Pumpkin pie had little spiciness and a too soft consistency.
Good food items making up for the disappointing main meal: chocolate desserts, cookie. Pasta bar was good.
We’ve been coming to Shores Restaurant for years on Thanksgiving. It used to be amazing... this year it felt like the restaurant was ill prepared and the quality of the food was no where near the $58 + drinks per person price. Have no problem with that price point would like to see service and food quality much improved to justify another visit.
Spending Thanksgiving Day in La Jolla, we selected The Shores, right on the beach, for our Thanksgiving Day Buffet. The staff, bar none, smiled, were pleasant and helpful. The turkey was delicious!!! And, the sides, for us, were well prepared. There was a good variety. It was encouraging to see that they had a list of all the foods and whether or not they were Gluten Free. It appeared that the large crowds/tables were handled efficiently. Although crowded it was manageable. The only downfall, and it is significant, is the parking. THERE IS NO PARKING. The hotel's parking is, naturally, reserved for the hotel guests. It took us 40 to find a parking space in a public lot and walk up the beach walk to the Buffet. And we were anxious that we would miss our reservation time. The food and service took the edge off of a rocky start!!!
Amazing location ... can't be closer to the ocean.
Unfortunately, everything about the restaurant is date and is overdue for an update.
This location combined with a modern look and a great chef is a recipe to a great restaurant.
The good news is that location is the most difficult thing to find ... and this restaurant has it.
Will they be able to get management to invest to make it great?
Time will tell ...
The view from the restaraunt was great. Nice laege, wife Windows allow for almost unblocked ocean view from any table. Even got to see the sun setting from our table. Wait staff was extremely friendly and helpful and answered all our questions. The food was ok, not the best cuts of meat. The desert was very good. Flourless chocolate cake was amazing. Overall a great experience.
I hadn't been to the Shores for several years, but a friend of mine suggested we go to celebrate my birthday and watch the waves. Such a beautiful view. The food was even better than I remember; so many choices and everything was delicious. I'd really recommend the scallops. And they gifted me with a wonderful birthday dessert. Such a wonderful afternoon.
A terrific beachfront restaurant--easy parking at the hotel lot underneath, and then seated at a table overlooking the beach and the waves rolling in. The service was very friendly and attentive, and the food was delicious--we enjoyed a cheese plate, eggs benedict, and an incredible burger with brie, arugula and fig jam. Fantastic brunch at a reasonable price. I would highly recommend it.
Food was good and well presented; our server was good. However we arrived and were left standing at check-in for 10 minutes while they figured out which table? Or set up a table ? Or?? Then seated at a table in bar area which was noisy and had a baby at next table and a 1-2 year old at adjacent table. We were having a 5-adult birthday dinner, requested a table in 'main' dining room level in a quieter area...had to wait another 5-10 minutes before they seated us (we saw at least 3 vacant tables). After dinner they never brought a birthday dessert, said happy birthday or any acknowledgement...just brought the check. We had mentioned it was a birthday celebration in the reservation and when we checked in the hostess commented that they would 'do something ' for our celebrant.
We will not return!
The photos on the website for this restaurant are gorgeous and the food looked amazing! Unfortunately, we were very disappointed by both the ambiance and food. The restaurant is right on the beach but what you can't tell from the photos is the beach directly in front of the windows are full of hotel guests, their beach chairs and tall umbrellas which blocks most of the view. We were very excited for a finer dining experience on the water to celebrate a successful sales quarter and were very disappointed by the food we ordered. Not very tasty & not served hot. Overall, it is a beautiful location to drop in for a casual lunch but wouldn't recommend it for dinner.
We had friends visiting from out of town, and wanted to show them La Jolla Shores. This was the perfect restaurant for dinner. We sat inside, but had a great view of the beach and the sunset. The staff was attentive and helpful in accommodating our dinner orders. And as I must eat gluten-free, I appreciated that our waitress was very knowledgeably about gluten-free options.
I brought my friend here for her birthday and let the restaurant know ahead of time. They seated us at a wonderful window so we could see the sun setting in perfect view. The food and drinks were great and affordable (for a nice meal) and most importantly they brought out my friend a huge slab of birthday cake with a candle. The cake was amazing!
Met a friend I hadn't seen in a while there for a late lunch. We were seated immediately on a patio overlooking the beach and served attentively throughout the meal by Caitlin. Friend had burger, could only eat half, I had a vegetarian wrap and could only eat half. Food was good, nothing remarkable. Very much enjoyed our visit. Parking was in an underground lot and cost $5, so be prepared for that. There was some street parking, but on a sunny, summer day, none was available.
