The Shores Restaurant - La Jolla Shores Hotel Ratings and Reviews
Terrific food, beautifully presented !
The $30 menu is always imaginative and delicious... thanks to chef Amy.
And the wine list is very good, with a nice variety. But the Wed. wine special is fantastic!
Service impeccable - Kimberly is especially friendly and knowlegable.
This is a decent hotel casual restaurant with a competent kitchen and staff. So everything is good without being particularly memorable. :) Except for the spectacular view, of course, since the dining area sits right on the beach. It did prove an ideal choice for a casual brunch with friends: omelets, french toast, eggs benedict and the like are featured on the menu, so there's something for everyone.
We ate here for our 10th wedding anniversary and were promptly seated at the window overlooking the Pacific. I had the butterfish and my wife had the scallops. Both were outstanding. If it wasn't for the fact that we live in Florida, this would definitely be a regular spot on our restaurant list.
The Mother's Day brunch was a bit disappointing. Given the price, I expected it to be of the quality I get at a Hilton or at the RB Inn. Instead, the food was "OK". Nothing to rave about, and certainly not what the high price would indicate. Additionally, the food was rather difficult to find, since the various 'stations' were spread out all over the restaurant. The best part of the brunch was definitely the omelettes.
The brunch was good but very expensive for what it was. Did not even come with a complimentary glass of champagne. They also did not seem to be prepared for the Mother's Day brunch crowd as the lines were long at every area, tables jammed in between stations so it was hard to move around and the omelet station had one server and took a half hour to get through the line. This was a reservation only brunch. Seems they could have determined how many servers and food to keep on hand.
we've dined at The Shores many times before but was disappointed when they charged us for a Mamosa for the Mother's Day brunch. We didn't mind the charge for the brunch (which we enjoyed) but the $9 for the Mamosas was outrageous. With so many restaurant choices, I doubt we will return.
We dined at The Shores for the Chef Celebration dinner, a delicious event where the proceeds go to a culinary scholarship fund. We got to taste dishes from five different San Diego chef's and loved every bite! We love The Shores on regular nights too, Chef de Cuisine Amy DiBiase is amazing! Serving food that is simplified, fresh, local and innovative. The ambiance and wine list are out of this world there too. Highly recommended!
The Shores is reliably gracious, delicious and pleasant. The view is fantastic, rain or shine, whether we are watching the sunset, the waves, the kayak classes, scuba divers, tourists, or the sea birds... This is Old La Jolla at its relaxed, unpretentious best.
Great views up and down the coast while seaated just above the sandy beach. Outstanding wine list with many choices by the glass or half bottle. Free underground parking. Check on-line for monthly and/or daily specials on wine, prix-fixe dinners, etc. Well-behaved kids would have a good time here.
We were a group of 5 dining at the Shores. We were very satisfied with food, service etc. The view was fantastic. We tried 4 different desserts and 3 of them were worth 5 starts!
A very nice restaurant to go have a beuatifull calm dinner with stunning ocean views.
While the restaurant is not elegant, the view can't be beat. When you walk in one might think the food will be average. We were amazed at how good our meals were. The wine list isn't extensive but what's there is good and reasonably priced. Service was first rate. Admittedly, we were there early so that we could get a window table and the restaurant was quiet. We'll be back.
We really did enjoy the food. The salmon and mussels were cooked perfectly and the french fries were good with truffle oil. The only dish that was a bit underwhelming was the brussel sprouts, which would have been better roasted and then shredded.
Granted, we went on a weeknight, though the dining room was very empty. This was surprising because the food and service were very good.
We always take out-of-town guests here, because the view at sunset shows them why we're so passionate about living here...plus it's a treat for us to try new dishes (always exciting & delicious)...always excellent service & you always feel as if you're in a private dining room because it's so quiet. Love this place!
Went here with my girlfriends for dinner, and I actually hadn't been to The Shores in years. I would say the food has greatly improved, with a much more interesting menu. The setting is very nice, and the noise level was wonderful, since you want to do a lot of chatting with your girlfriends, and that can be very hard in a noisy restaurant. We enjoyed ourselves and will add this restaurant to our list!
Beautiful view, creative and tasty food from Amy diBiase, great service. Sip and Savor menu is a great deal for 3 courses for $30 or $45 including wine pairings. All of the wines were delicious. Room needs updating, and still looks like an older motel dining room. But otherwise this is an exciting new choice in SD dining.
Several things from the regular menu were quite good, the "tasting menu" where everything had chocolate was not so good. The things that do not normally have chocolate (i.e., scallops) were just odd, and the desserts that do normally have chocolate were not that tasty.
Wonderful location in The Shores, with validated parking at the Hotel (steps from the beach, with incredible views). Our waitress couldn’t have been more knowledgeable or nicer. We went with out of town guest and had a great time. I selected the veal from the 3 course special menu and it was delicious. Nice wine selection also. I will definitely be back again.
The food was very good, but the place was almost empty - and this is a hotel on a Thursday night. The bar did have some people in it, and one other couple came. Unfortunately even though there were plenty of empty tables with views of the beach/ocean, they were seated at the table right next to us.
They extended restaurant week ( 3 courses for $30, with wine $45). We selected the wine pairing. No rush (Friday night at 7PM) and the choices were great: lobster as main entre; tho the sides (celery root and saurkraut a bit odd). Wines complemented well.
Service was good.
We had an amazing dining experience at the Shores Restaurant for San Diego's Restaurant Week. The food was awesome and we also tried their wine pairings which were excellent. The parking below the hotel/restaurant makes this an easy spot to enjoy...right on the beach.
