The Shores Restaurant - La Jolla Shores Hotel Ratings and Reviews
The food and presentation are exceptional, and of course, you can't beat the view and activity of La Jolla Shores. Parking under the building is so convenient, with one hour comped. Just wish it was for two hours, since it's rather expensive per hour, and one hour is not enough to really enjoy the food, view and each other.
I have eaten here many times, mostly for special occasions. This was for a Christmas dinner buffet. Nice selection of food; all very good and fresh. We sat in a booth towards the back, but being up high it still provided a great ocean view to the west. Nice sunset for dinner.
Really great buffet. But we found it odd that in such a nice place so many were casually dressed, esp on Xmas! nice beach but the view wasn't so great bcz of all the casual people on the beach right in front of windows... also we were perplexed that we were seated so far from the buffet, with an 80-yr-old; there were lots of tables available closer!
We had a delicious meal. My husband and I both ordered the short ribs. Very tender and very large portions. We both took home leftovers which were great the next day. It was my birthday and they brought out a complimentary dessert with candle. Service was attentive and not overbearing. Beautiful ocean and sunset view. They do validate parking, but only for one hour so if you stay over an hour it will cost you $5.00. You could try to find parking on the street
I am a long time San Diego resident and we had some out of town visitors that we wanted to take to lunch/brunch on a Sunday. We wanted a place with ocean view, reservations, and a good menu. This place met those requirements. It ended up for the first time in our lives we were the only party in a big restaurant. The decor is outdated. Why there was no one else there on a Sunday at noon in La Jolla in a hotel restaurant on La Jolla shores beach still concerns us and puzzles us? The food was good, the service was very good, but the environment was almost haunting! Our experience was further dampened by learning on leaving the garage that we need validation at the restaurant, so we had to park and go back to the restaurant to the hostess and get validation. Then upon exiting we learned, even though we were the only customers, the validation was good for only an hour and we had to pay $5 additional for parking. A very puzzling experience that I could not recommend to others without explanation.
Thanksgiving Dinner: We terribly regret choosing this restaurant from the many restaurants offering Thanksgiving dinner. Although the menu looks interesting, the reality was one of the most unappetizing meals, even allowing for a buffet.
The meats on the carving station were all poor. Even though there was a beautiful-looking whole turkey, the only meat served was cut from a slab of dry white meat. The ham was salty without the flavorful smokiness or spice expected. The prime rib was tough.
Most cooked items in the buffet looked overcooked. Pumpkin pie had little spiciness and a too soft consistency.
Good food items making up for the disappointing main meal: chocolate desserts, cookie. Pasta bar was good.
We’ve been coming to Shores Restaurant for years on Thanksgiving. It used to be amazing... this year it felt like the restaurant was ill prepared and the quality of the food was no where near the $58 + drinks per person price. Have no problem with that price point would like to see service and food quality much improved to justify another visit.
Spending Thanksgiving Day in La Jolla, we selected The Shores, right on the beach, for our Thanksgiving Day Buffet. The staff, bar none, smiled, were pleasant and helpful. The turkey was delicious!!! And, the sides, for us, were well prepared. There was a good variety. It was encouraging to see that they had a list of all the foods and whether or not they were Gluten Free. It appeared that the large crowds/tables were handled efficiently. Although crowded it was manageable. The only downfall, and it is significant, is the parking. THERE IS NO PARKING. The hotel's parking is, naturally, reserved for the hotel guests. It took us 40 to find a parking space in a public lot and walk up the beach walk to the Buffet. And we were anxious that we would miss our reservation time. The food and service took the edge off of a rocky start!!!
Amazing location ... can't be closer to the ocean.
Unfortunately, everything about the restaurant is date and is overdue for an update.
This location combined with a modern look and a great chef is a recipe to a great restaurant.
The good news is that location is the most difficult thing to find ... and this restaurant has it.
Will they be able to get management to invest to make it great?
Time will tell ...
The view from the restaraunt was great. Nice laege, wife Windows allow for almost unblocked ocean view from any table. Even got to see the sun setting from our table. Wait staff was extremely friendly and helpful and answered all our questions. The food was ok, not the best cuts of meat. The desert was very good. Flourless chocolate cake was amazing. Overall a great experience.
I hadn't been to the Shores for several years, but a friend of mine suggested we go to celebrate my birthday and watch the waves. Such a beautiful view. The food was even better than I remember; so many choices and everything was delicious. I'd really recommend the scallops. And they gifted me with a wonderful birthday dessert. Such a wonderful afternoon.
A terrific beachfront restaurant--easy parking at the hotel lot underneath, and then seated at a table overlooking the beach and the waves rolling in. The service was very friendly and attentive, and the food was delicious--we enjoyed a cheese plate, eggs benedict, and an incredible burger with brie, arugula and fig jam. Fantastic brunch at a reasonable price. I would highly recommend it.
