The Shores is not as nice as it used to be before 2020. It had an upscale menu before.
Now they offer hamburgers and sandwiches for dinner. My wife did not like her drink,
and my 'Old Fashioned' was strong but all sugar in the bottom, and nothing to stir it
But the Swordfish dinner was good and we both enjoyed it, and the wine was good.
When we arrived it was cold at our table, but they adjusted the airflow and then we were fine.
The food was very good, making the whole experience worthwhile. Two of us had Swordfish (both excellent), one order of Wild Mushroom/Truffle Ravioli (also excellent), an Iceberg Wedge salad and a Cobb salad. Salads were more than large enough to share for 2 people. The service is a little slow, I think just due to inexperience, but not at all drastically. You can’t beat the location, right on the beach. We sat indoors, but were still close enough to smell the water.
Went for our anniversary dinner and had the worst steak of my lifetime, pan seared, no flavor, and tough as nails with no steak knife! Out of Pinot Grigio, my personal favorite. Ate our meal with the busboy clanking dishes in a pan outside the kitchen. Romance=zero
Only downside was the bar was not stocked with a lot of variety. Service was solid, and that is not a given in today's environment so that was very much appreciated.
Nice view for brunch. The food was very good, and overall ambiance relaxing for a visit with friends.
It was an amazing experience with a wonderful location and superb service.
Right on the beach, big outdoor patio with umbrellas. Relaxed atmosphere. Somewhat limited menu, but great food and something for everyone. My 95 year old mom will only eat salmon. They only had swordfish on the menu, but substituted salmon for her at no extra charge.
The best thing about our dining experience was the view of the ocean. The child’s macaroni and cheese was horrible. It tasted grainy (too much flour) and no cheese taste. For a child that loves Mac & cheese to say it’s awful and I can’t eat it... is pretty bad.
The service was mediocre.
The view was first class. Everything else was sub-par. The burger looked and tasted liked a pre-formed frozen patty covered with cheap cheese and a stale bun. The onion rings were clearly from the giant bag of frozen rings from Walmart. The flatbread looked good but was tough. The ahi tuna and wontons had good flavor but was basically a pile of tuna chunks with chips on the side. The presentation did not meet expectations at all.
We will not be going back.
Nice ambiance. Excellent server. No children’s menu.
Old fashioned, not well maintained hotel restaurant, food is not great but ok, the staff is friendly, the view is the best
Food was ok had the chicken wings and Shore burger. Bread for the burger was not anything special I just ate the bottom half. French fries were good and the pot stickers. The environment was the only issue i could not over look. There were lots of flies and gnats flying around inside the restaurant. We spent most of the dinner waving our hands around trying to get the gnats and flies away. The view of the ocean was ok after you get past the hoards of people on the beach and the Sea Gulls which people feed and leave their trash to sort through. While waiting people which are staying at the hotel walk back and forth from the beach with dirty sandy beach feet to go to the bathroom.
Not what we expected. Our table was lovely, overlooking the beach and the sunset. Our server also was very nice. I would call this a casual dining restaurant. We were expecting more of an upscale, fine dining menu. Basically, if you go, expect a few burgers, sandwiches, salads and flatbreads, with limited selections for each. The food itself was fine— certainly not great. The La Jolla Shores Hotel looks like it was at one time an elegant property. As we walked through the hotel to get to the restaurant, the property appeared to be declining. (We were not guests of the hotel. So this opinion is based strictly on impressions from what we could observe.)
This restaurant is a gem. Right on the beach so great views and ambiance. Service was terrific. Food was delicious and substantial sized portions. We will go back and would highly recommend to others.
We had a great dinner!
The view was beautiful, food was delicious, and we even got a free mud pie for our anniversary ☺️.
Despite us having a reservation, we arrived and were told we’d be seated soon. We waited 20 minutes before realizing we’d been forgotten. We reminded the host and were sat down. Once seated, we received the wrong menus and asked for the correct ones. They told us we would have water coming shortly only it was not brought over. Forgotten once again. We had to look for someone to come take our order and get some water. After an hour of being at the restaurant we finally received our food and water. It was until the end where they came by saying the dessert was on them for the “rocky” service. We got our dessert for the sake of getting something out of the poor experience, but would not go again. We were actually thinking of doing our wedding rehearsal dinner there but after that experience we will look elsewhere.
We made two reservations but had to cancel the one for dinner at 5:15 on Saturday July 10 at the last minute because the restaurant would not guarantee and outdoor table, and we have two children that cannot yet be vaccinated. We could find out that we were seated inside at 5:15 when they are hungry and have to find another place at the last minute.
We had breakfast outdoors at 9 am without the children on Sunday. My scrambled eggs had a tomato in it, not requested--I am deathly allergic to tomatoes. This was clearly due to sloppiness in the kitchen. My husband thought the omelette was overdone and had some stomach upset later in the morning.
We love the ambience and hope the dining experience will return to the wonderful meals we have enjoyed on many occasions in the past.
We would recommend with some reservations--
Beautiful out look, peaceful environment and lovely services. Cocktails were delicious & their mussels are my favorite ❤️
We had a great dinner here. Food was good and portions were ample. Good service, fun ambiance and overall a very pleasant dinner.
Drinks were good, food was just okay. Not very flavorful. We got the turkey club and the Baja tacos. Wouldn’t go again.
We were dining with elderly friends and requested on OpenTable an inside table near a window. We called and reconfirmed this. On arrival, an attempt to seat us outside was made. The hostess, was *very* put out when I asked to be seated inside, and reminded her that this request was on the reservation. Her response was "I haven't seen that". Once seated we were largely ignored. I had to ask for menus (our guests didn't have smartphones to be able to read the QR code menu). Wait staff were not to be seen! Ordered dessert - it didn't arrive until I had to get up and go to our waiter and remind him. Wouldn't go there again. I don't know if they were having a bad day, but they simply didn't seem interested in delivering a basic service.
This was a team building, corporate appreciation luncheon.
Unfortunately our food arrived at different times and those with their hot meals had to wait for the rest to arrive.
We were promised a comp however don’t believe that happened. Carlos definitely tried his best but I think his hands were tied.
Love this spot ... and for everyone else at the table, this was their first tome there.
I requested oceanfront and was not accommodated despite available open tables.
View is fabulous. Poke bowls are delicious. Service? Terrible. We were there for a work lunch and the waitress disappeared for 15 minutes at a time, including after we asked for "just one more minute" to decide what we wanted to order. Took 15 minutes to get my ice tea as well. And the restaurant was empty; initially, we were the only guests. By the time we ordered, two other tables had been seated. There seemed to be plenty of staff, but they were hiding out of sight.
We had a wonderful time celebrating my daughter’s 19th birthday. We ended up moving to an outer table with a spectacular view of the sunset. Susana and the rest of the wait staff were courteous, helpful, kind and made our dining experience terrific. Highly recommend The Shores and will visit next time in La Jolla!
Lovely beach views augmented by a lacklustre menu but above average food preparation. We had an awesome server who was attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. Tasty meal but could aim much higher to meet the location and clientele.
Family in town. Best meal thus far! Everything was delicious.
Awesome spot with views. The hotel was pretty nice too.
Excellent service. Beautiful views and delicious food.
Wonderful location - the staff were very pleasant and the atmosphere on the 4th July weekend was fabulous.
Great views , decor is outdated , server was great & food was good , prices were fair , hotel parking was unavailable due to being full
I ordered the short rib entree and we shared a caesar salad and my husband ordered the parpadelle pasta with scallops. I enjoyed the tender short rib with the cauliflower. The meat was very tender and had been marinated. The cauliflower was crispy. The caesar salad was perfect with anchovy topped with a garlic and citrus laced dressing. All in all we enjoyed the ocean view with lots of people on the beach during the 4th of July weekend.
We split the chocolate brownie sundae dessert which was gooey and full of chocolate syrup over vanilla ice cream.
Beautiful view and great food .
Sat at the bar with a great view of the water. Great bartender, Josh, who was extremely busy but found time to be cordial and provide excellent service. Great beach ambiance and some nice appetizers.
Overpriced a few bucks, but worth it. We forget about this hidden treasure. Love it.
The staff was incredibly accommodating and helpful! Just beware- there is a 5% surcharge on top of the tax. Worth it though
Great view and valet!
food was overpriced, service was ok, located in old/outdated hotel, kind of dirty, spend your money somewhere else
Thank you so much for accommodating our group. We had a great time, good service and delicious food.
We loved The Shores! The food was amazing, the service was great and staff was friendly. The view was beautiful! We loved everything about our night!! We will be coming back for sure!!!
