The Shore Club - Ottawa Ratings and Reviews
The only thing I don’t like about this restaurant is that when you order your main course that are quite expensive they do not come with any sides. You have to order sides that are also very expensive bringing a normal main course into the $60 and up range. They do offer specials that come with sides.
We’ve been to this restaurant many times and love the service, ambience and wine list. Thenlast two times, however, the fish ( at $45-$50 a portion!) had been a big disappointment. The halibut the other evening was badly over cooked and the sole a few weeks prior to that was greasy. The service on the other hand is truly professional and the wine list is outstanding.
This was our third time having dinner here, always before a show. The food is very good, they have an excellent wine list, and the usually top notch service was even better on this visit. The only downside we find, is that it can be crowded around the bar, and extemely noisy everywhere. On this occasion, it was a little less so; however, we cancelled the extra glass of wine because our server advised a 15-minute wait for it from the jammed-up bar.
Chowder was pretty good. Club sandwich was made on what looked like WonderBread. Very disappointing.
My server was very good. It took 45 minutes between soup and main, to the point where I was forced to take the main to go. I was told the delay was due to having to remake the sandwich because the first was not up to the stanbdards of the shore club. This means the server was watching out for the customer, which is good, but the kitchen staff obviously didn't give a damn. This is the second time I've been to the shore club, and I've been underwhelmed both times. The Shore Club is another example of price not reflecting quality. This is not a destination I would recommend.
I have been to the shore club many times for many different special occasions. My best friend and her husband were celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary and had never been to the restaurant before so we knew that we had to treat them to a special dinner for their special anniversary. As usual - the food was excellent, service top notch and the little touch of putting an anniversary card on the table was wonderful. They enjoyed their food the atmosphere and we of course loved it like we always do!
We waited a very long time to get our food. The server came to apologize, offered us more bread... and suggested it was because my wife ordered a medium-well steak. But we all know that it doesn't take an additional 30 minutes for medium-well. I also had to wait a very long time to get my bill. And although we were not drinking fast, for the most part we were pouring our own wine from our bottle.
My $55 filet mignon steak was very tasty but it had zero presentation, just a steak alone on a white plate. I also ordered the shoe-string fries but they were very ordinary, like those I could get at Perkins.
So overall we were disappointed. We had a much better experience recently at Beckta, for that price.
My husband and I enjoyed a delicious filet mignon dinner. I had Baked Alaska for dessert which was wonderful. It is a dessert that I rarely see on the menu in other restaurants. The service was excellent, and the ambiance was fun. Highly recommend this restaurant.
my wife and I dinner at your restaurant to celebrate a wedding anniversary. We had been wanting to try it for a while. Each year we try to do something special, and this year thought your restaurant would do it.
We couldn't have been more disappointed! The service was extremely slow (both tables next to us complained), and the food was very underwhelming. Everything from the appetizers to the mains were bland and uninticing. The meal was so mediocre we opted not to share a dessert like we've done for the past 10 years...
We were expecting so much more given your reputation and an experience that we had in Toronto.
Another awesome meal. The 3 of us shared a seafood tower which has long been a favourite, and a couple salads and sides. Finished with a cheese plate, some boozy coffees and a glass of TBA. Loved our server who was clearly also a sommelier. And though he forgot the cheese plate initially, made it up to us by comping, topping up the TBA, and bringing extra cherries that we had commented on.
We had a very distinguished colleague from Australia visiting with us who travels world wide and so we wanted to impress him with Ottawa's fine dining. The ambiance was perfect. Lighting and music were at the best level not to interfere with conversation but loud enough so that it felt like something was going on. The service was very competent, not intrusive but the waiter willingly answered all our questions and kept the food and wine flowing.
The food was cooked just the way we requested, it was beautifully presented and we certainly enjoyed it.
Not only would we recommend this restaurant but we will come back also.
Manager was ridiculously rude to his staff in front of customers. I run a business and woulldnt speak to someone like that in private. Food was good but not enough to justify the price. This place would not have these types of ratings in Toronto. Manager should be disciplined by owners/operator.
