We have been to Settler's Inn for our Anniversary for the past several years and had an enjoyable time. What we have been realizing however is that the menu is very limited and we seem to have the same thing every time we go there (Salmon and Filet). I would expect a much more diverse and exciting menu for a restaurant of this caliber. After all what skill does it take to broil a piece of salmon or cook a steak.
However the menu was the minor part of the problem. There was a wedding party and the noise level was to a point where we needed ear plugs. We couldn't even talk with each other without yelling. The rest of the restaurant was filled with couples trying to enjoy a quiet dinner but that was impossible. We made a comment to our waitress about the noise but she just shrugged it off. It seems like they care more about the money they make from the large party (3 large tables) than providing an enjoyable atmosphere for their patrons.
Needless to say we will be finding somewhere else for any upcoming anniversaries.
Excellent food in a lovely old world setting.
Food was not as good as in the past.....overpriced....atmosphere great as usual
This is not a good review. When we ate at the Settler's Inn in 2012 we were so pleasantly surprised. Whatever it lacked in "presentation" it more than made up for in terms of flavor and thoughtful ingredients. We could not wait to return but perhaps we waited too long? We dined there on Monday evening 10/14/19 and could not have been more disappointed. The scallop entree which we shared as an appetizer was borderline burnt and lacked any seasoning whatsoever. At best this dish was a bland mess on a plate (but at least they split the dish into two plates for our "enjoyment"). Our entrees were worse. I had the filet mignon which lacked any seasoning whatsoever and boasted potatoes which literally tasted as if they had been cooked the prior morning and allowed to dry out like raisins under a heat lamp for two days. I could barely chew them. My partner had the veal ragout which looked and tasted more like a can of Alpo in a pot than anything edible for a human. We really should have said something but all the while we kept trying to come up with excuses as we suffered through this meal, such as "at least the wines by the glass are OK" and "well, our waitress is very nice" and "maybe there's a new/bad chef?" We also thought perhaps it was our timing. It was a 9pm reservation and we were literally among the last seatings of the day. But our timing actually made us less likely to send our plates back or leave, since the only dining option at that hour would have been a 30-40 minute drive to the nearest McDonald's (which frankly would have tasted better). EVERY dish was just splatted on a big plate with no regard for how it looked let alone tasted. This also seemed to be the case at tables around us. We gladly skipped dessert in anticipated horror of what might have arrived. Our waitress was friendly if a bit tired from what had clearly been a busy evening but, either way, her being nice can't excuse that food. I don't think we'll be back.
After riding The Sturbridge Line, Settlers Inn was the perfect choice for Sunday brunch. The Kir Royale cocktail was among the best I have ever had. The onion soup and my husband's butternut squash soup was very tasty, as were our entrees. It is always nice to see a large selection for brunch, offering both breakfast and lunch options. We will surely return.
As always, Settlers Inn doesn't disappoint! The food was delicious and the atmosphere, warm and relaxing. We had our favorite table, a window seat looking over the garden while we enjoyed Sunday brunch. The menu was varied with lots of great choices, making it difficult to choose just one! Since it was my husband's birthday, we were informed that he would get a complimentary dessert. Since we were so full after our meal, we declined but they were kind enough to package up their signature dessert (toffee pudding !!) and send it home with us! Very special of them! We truly enjoyed everything and look forward to returning again very soon..
Good service and food. Noice level was louder than usual but very romantic.
Exceptional experience! Our only complaint was the music from the banquet room below us.
As always this place never disappoints. Food was superb ambiance great and pianist fantastic. Highly recommend
Had a great dining experience- enjoyed wine tasting and piano player was excellent. Service was friendly and inviting. Food was delicious.
Dining was very crowded so unfortunately we ate in the lobby area. Food was excellent though
We have always enjoyed The Settlers Inn. Saturday night was different. The noise was so loud that we could not hear each other. We did not stay for desert and coffee because we needed a respite from the very loud voices who were competing with the piano.
One of the marks of a truly outstanding restaurant is the wait staff. Our waiter has work there for over Twenty years. He’s level of food and wine knowledge was truly outstanding!
I would rate this restaurant higher except I thought the food, while good, was not outstanding, especially given the price. I ordered the chicken with the life enhancing salad (not sure what the name was exactly). While it tasted good, it was very basic and wasn't something I would order again. I also had their baked onion soup and that was very good. I probably would have enjoyed a larger bowl of the soup with a basic salad more than I did the chicken. I felt the portion sizes were a tad on the small side and the prices were a little high given what the dishes we ordered were and the portion size. I would recommend this place mostly for the ambiance which was fantastic.
Everything was good the food was excellent the only bad part was we had a 6:30 reservation and we didn't get seated till 7:00
The grounds were absolutely beautiful. The service was impeccable. The food was amazing and the price was right!! Great brunch!
delicious food beautifully presented, great wine list, excellent service. enjoyed and will return!
Awsome, from the food to the staff. Can't wait to go back !
We have been to the Settlers Inn several times and were always very happy. This last time was a bit disappointing. After being seated we sat for close to 10 minutes before being addressed by a server.
We ordered a "special", venison ragu over polenta and found it to be lackluster. There was very little ragu and a large amount of polenta.
Dessert was also disappointing. the next time we stay in the area we may just skip dinner here.
Everything was great. Servers were friendly and the food was delicious.
We have been to the Settler’s Inn for dinner several times. We always enjoy dining there. The food, service and ambiance are great. Highly recommend this restaurant. The hotel is also worth checking out.
The food is always excellent. The piano player is always a treat. Unfortunately people at several tables thought it was a good idea to have a sing along. It was annoying and loud. Not what you want when you’re out for a good meal at a very nice restaurant.
The most amazing lamb shank. Great service. Great wine list
Great food and service. Great wine selection tion
The steak and egg Galette was beautifully presented. Great balance of flavors. Service was spot on
Since we live out of the state, we only get to Settler's once or twice a year, but we make a special point to get there! Without doubt one of our all-time favorite spots for fine dining. the bonus is the magnificent garden area in the back, as well as the pathway to the creek further back. The food is superb, albeit a bit pricey...but the all-around experience is well worth it! Some nights an exceptional pianist plays everything from Back to Beatles and makes the evening beyond memorable! Highly recommended!
I enjoyed the filet special marinated in mushrooms. I was on vacation for a weekend getaway in the poconos and it was so much fun!
Once again we had to wait for our table even though we had a reservation. The food was delicious. The server was good but a bit distant . I will return here on special occasions .
Superb. From cocktails through home baked bread, creative appetizers, scrumptious main courses and delightful desserts. Top notch quality in freshness, creativity, and execution. We came back a second night in a row because the first one was so thoroughly enjoyable. Clearly the absolute best restaurant anywhere around here, and rivals those in areas known for high quality cuisine. Not to mention the extensive beer and wine list, as well.
Enjoyed our dinner. Two years now we have celebrated our anniversary at Settlers Inn. Will probably celebrate it there next year too.The only thing I wish is when seating tables, not seat every table next to each other when there empty tables all over the room.
My boyfriend and I had reservations for 5:30 p.m. on a Saturday night. We arrived at 5 p.m. and sat at the bar and enjoyed a drink. The bartender made excellent drinks and was very friendly. We headed over to the host stand at 5:25 p.m. and had to wait in a "line" (there were 2 tables ahead of us) for 7 minutes until we got seated. The host didn't seem interested in moving very quickly or acknowledging the line of people waiting. The restaurant was empty; the server simply moved slowly. Once we were seated, we were greeted quickly by the sommelier. We ended up doing a wine tasting, which was reasonably priced and complemented the meal nicely. Our server was very quick, if not slightly abrupt. We had the smoked trout appetizer. It left something to be desired. It was served as a filet, with small cups of the capers, horseradish, and red onions on the side. I don't necessarily want to prepare my own meal. The ends of the fish were also a bit dry and salty. The center was better. We enjoyed the warm bread that is served with the meal. I had scallops for dinner; my boyfriend had lamb. We both loved our meals. The ambiance was nice. We had a window seat with a view of the garden and there was a pianist playing fun songs. We skipped dessert, though the menu was tempting. We instead had a latte and a cappuccino. Both were made well. Overall, we really enjoyed our experience and our meals.
We very much enjoyed our evening at the Settlers Inn. The setting can't be beat. The coffee was outstanding. Most of my party enjoyed the steak and lobster special. I had an eggplant dish which was good, but probably not worth $26.00. I will definitely visit again.
The Settlers Inn is mine and my sons all time favorite restaurant. It has delectable food and a beautiful atmosphere. The host Steven is always welcoming and happy to see us and we always feel at home there. I have never had a bad bite of food there!
My bride and I frequently patronize the Settlers. It’s one of our favorites for fine dining. Their Jazz on the Deck series is wonderful and unlike anything in the area. I wish they’d continue it into the fall.
Our stuffed zucchini flower appetizer was tasty. The crab and corn chowder was only so-so and was served in a tiny square cup, which was odd and awkward. My husband's steak was pricey for what came on the plate. My eggplant entree was not tasty, plated with unexpected components not described on the menu, and honestly just weird. Overall, place feels like it's trying hard to be "farm to table" but needs a new executive chef.
We would like to see more variety on the menu.
More special choices for a weekend night.
This restaurant was outstanding. From the food to the service, there were nothing more we could have wanted. Excellent!
45th Wedding Anniversary and everything was wonderful! Excellence all way around, always enjoyable and always excellent food! Thank you
