Excellent food and service. Clam chowder left a LOT to be desired. Watery.
A lovely setting for a special dinner. We took our 17 year old grandson and he was very impressed. Wonderful service. He loved the extras, especially the palate cleanser.
Overall disappointed and did not feel the quality of the meal equaled the cost. The oysters in the main dish were soggy and lacked taste and still had part of the shell attached (which did not realize until started to eat).
If you are not too picky this is a good place. We had the special and should not have done that. Both of us had tummy issues day after. We will not go back.
Loved our seating, the decour, the food and the service, especially our waitress, Irena.
We opted for a restaurant with atmosphere for Valentine's Day and the Seafare filled the bill. Service was outstanding.
Best restaurant crab cakes I have ever had! Wait staff is extremely professional. The ambiance is very nice.
We enjoyed our recent dinner at the Seafare Restaurant. We dined on a Monday night and the restaurant was very quiet. We received excellent service and the food was delicious. Would definitely return.
My wife and I went to the Seafare to celebrate a job promotion. The food and service was excellent. The staff was prompt, and very helpful with any questions. I will be going back.
The reservation was made a week ahead of time; not only recorded online but also called the restaurant to say the 4 of us were celebrating a 39th wedding anniversary but also a 70th birthday. We were told there would be complimentary dessert for each as well as the waitstaff singing table side; the waitress knew nothing about either; brought the desserts; no singing; so ooopppssss!!!!!!!
We were celebrating our 41st anniversary at this special restaurant. It's more of a high-end restaurant on the expensive side but good food to match. The portions are large: even with the two of us sharing the chopped salad, we still had some to carry out; similarly, my sauton (highly recommended!) was generous with left-overs for our next day's lunch. The tiniest disappointment was the cherries jubilee since the almonds were burnt; the serving was not huge but enough to share at the end of a filling dinner. We were pleasantly surprised to find a 10% off coupon in the Menu book at our B & B which was honored at The Seafare.
This is our 3rd time at this restaurant. The food was very good and the atmosphere is very nice. We had a nice quiet booth. The location to our hotel and the premium outlet was perfect.
The service was great!! The food was great!! The atmosphere outstanding!!
Its right in the name Seafare of Williamsburg was just FAIR
One cannot be anything but apprehensive when there are zero customers @ 7pm on a Friday night - however, my husband I decided to give it a go and we didn't get sick afterwards so all in all - it was an OK dinner.
Service was terrific - as well it should be considering your table plus a couple of others showed up and an entire waitstaff 'waiting' for customers to come.
Husband got the seared scallops - they needing a little more searing.
I got the filet mignon and it was cooked a perfect medium rare as ordered.
The sides were not very good; however, THE WEDGE SALAD WAS DELICIOUS!
Very expensive meal for a not so very expensive place and the food was spot on --
FARE. There are a lot of restaurants in Williamsburg -- with so many to choose from (we love Second Street Bistro), try someplace other than Seafare.
Three of my sisters and I visit Colonial Williamsburg several times a year and usually dine in the taverns. We decided to venture out of the colonial city and tried Seafare of Williamsburg for the first time. It was awesome!! Friendly, smiling staff. Excellent food and presentation. Nice, quiet atmosphere. We'll be back!
This restaurant is a great place to stop while driving on I64 near Williamsburg. Good food, great service, good value, interesting nautical decor.
Overall the food was good and the menu expansive. The decor definitely reflected the 1970s, though it was clean and is constructed to look like you are dining on a ship. The restaurant is clearly working, through food and service to be top notch in Williamsburg (hoping to earn the price of their meals).
The service was attentive and very nice ... perhaps even a bit over-attentive (according to my wife, and I agree). It's best for servers to be standing in the periphery and to just watch for a glance during any passes by. In this case, the staff huddled close by and anytime you might accidentally look at them, you'd have someone at your side. Nice, but ... too attentive!
One sad note (well twice actually):
1. The server serving the table near us removed the first plate from the table and placed it on a tray next to the table, then she proceeded to remove one plate at a time and scrape all the leftover food onto this first plate. This was right in front of us, for all to see. While clearly, this must happen someone, it should NEVER happen within the public dining area. It might be efficient, but it's not what one would expect to see in a nice restaurant.
2. Then, when our server (a different server) cleared our plates, he did the same thing! So ... they clearly have a problem. There is a proper method of clearing plates and moving them back into the kitchen. It does not include scraping things onto one plate OR stacking the plates in the public dining area.
Will we go back? I don't really know, there are a lot of choices in Williamsburg.
The seafood was good, but "nothing to write home about". Fairly pricey not to even receive a salad with the meal. It was average in every way. One nice thing is that they have round tables for 6 which makes conversation much easier.
Food was good, very salty, not special in any way. Service was great. Not a place for a return visit.
Consistently good, traditional style food for a special occasion..love the flaming desserts!
New Years Eve apparently was a challenge for The Seafare. Our dinner was quite good with fried oyster appetizers, garden salad, crab stuffed flounder and red snapper entrees, but their timing between servings was disappointing. 45 plus minutes after appetizer and salads were finished before main entrees were served indicated problems in the kitchen. Overall .... food good, kitchen preparation and service not so much.
New England clam chowder soup was bland and had very little clams and potatoes in it. The scallops were served floating in a disgusting bowl of melted butter and were so over salted that they were inedible.
One of the best restaurants ever, we are from out of town and made it our Family dinner — to remember forever! My husband rates this the #1 best French Onion soup - on the east coast!
Excellent food and service!!!
Food was good. Service was very slow without a crowd. Not very good for kids, although they were kind to us. Better for special occasions.
The Seafare of Williamsburg has become an annual tradition at Christmas evening, for myself, my wife, and my mother (when we visit mom at that time). The ladies love the special menu selections, as well as the small complimentary appetizers of rum cake and sherbet. The waitstaff are very professional, and we enjoy the restaurant's nautical decor.
The lack of attention upon arrival was our only complaint. There was a line at the door. All waiting indicated they had reservations, but there was no one greeting patrons or noting arrivals. Our reservation was for 6:00 PM. After repeated attempts to get someone's attention, we were seated at about 6:25. After that everything was great. Our server was attentive & the food was great.
While the food was excellent I felt the staff was less than friendly. We were at the hostess table for several minutes before we were even acknowledged. Our waitress was terse and unfriendly. Would not go back
We had limited options for Christmas dinner, due to working around a concert reservation. The Seafare very nearly caused us to miss that reservation. We waited over 20 minutes between finishing our appetizers and being served our main course, with no sign of our waiter during any of that time. Finally we were able to flag him down, and our main courses eventually appeared. The small piece of lobster in my dish was woefully overdone, and terribly tough. Apart from that, food was OK, but definitely not worth trekking far out of the historic district. We have had much better seafood at Christiana Campbell’s tavern.
We dined here on Christmas Day for our Holiday Dinner. The service was ok, but VERY SLOW. The appetizers were good but the meals were not very tasty. The veal was tough and had no sauce on as advertised. The steak was over cooked and the sauton meals did not contain "vegetables" as stated on the menu - they contained red peppers. The costs were high and the portions small. There was not anything about the meal that would make us return or tell a friend to dine there.
The food was excellent. My only suggestion is a printed wine list.
Christmas Eve on vacation
Food was awesome... waiter was friendly but not extra attentive .. would definitely go back
Seafare is our “go-to” restaurant for special occasions, out of town guests and friends. Food is delicious, menu is comprehensive and ambiance is special. The General Manager, Mr. Saras, has assembled an A-Team of chefs and wait staff. Go there....you won’t be disappointed.
It was entirely too noisy for a special occasion. I have eaten there in the past & the atmosphere was pleasant for a special evening meal. This time we were seated next to a table with a cranky, screaming child. Late, loud young children were seated on the other side of my table. A group of young people were having a celebration that was also very distracting to enjoy an evening at an elegant setting.
My wife and I have been wanting to try this restaurant for a long while, however, we could not afford eating out like this. Anyway, the atmosphere was very nice. The waiter was the BEST! But the entrees were terrible.
First, the shrimp was way over cooked. My wife’s meal, the Super Sauton was small and chewy! I had the seafood casserole and it was mostly mushrooms and peppers and my shrimp we not edable.
We were very disappointed. We could have complained, but we don’t get out much and didn’t want to embarrass ourselves.

This was our fourth time visiting Williamsburg during Christmas Time. Every year we return to the the seafare for dinner. We have never been disappointed with the food or service. I would recommend this restaurant for first time or returning visitors.
We had eaten at the restaurant last year and went back this year. We really enjoyed everything about the restaurant.
Our server, Anna, was great. The food was good. This is a pricey restaurant. For us it will be for special occasions only.
Good food clean nice place
