The Schoolhouse at Cannondale Ratings and Reviews
We had a great night at the Schoolhouse. The food was out of this world. I don’t think there was a bad dish on the menu. Everyone around us kept saying our delicious everything was. The service was fantastic. Our waiter had a great sense of humor and took amazing care of us. The only complaint I have is that there isn’t a bar to sit at- so don’t arrive early for pre-cocktails. Honestly the atmosphere is so nice that I would love to be able to do that.
5 stars for everything except the ambiance. Dinner for two is easily $150, and the food is exceptional, but the canned music is quite loud funk/jazz/rock making it difficult to savor the experience. The visual ambiance is lovely-like a country schoolhouse, but the loud music made both of us feel a bit edgy.
Schoolhouse is fantastic and we go there frequently, either to dine as a couple or meet friends. Typically a fair amount of planning is involved. For example, they have special nights with a vegetarian menu which is something we seek out. We usually book weeks ahead. This occasion was a little different. Realizing both teenagers were out at the same time it seemed like an excellent opportunity for an impromptu dinner out together. I assumed Schoolhouse would be booked solid, so I was surprised to find the schedule open (in fifteen minutes no less) and booked it pronto. Five minutes later I received a call from the restaurant that there had been a mistake. Had it been another restaurant likely I would have not received a call. So ... this is the one time Open Table did not work. No worries, we found a different and lovely place to get together. Schoolhouse will be there next time, and there will be many next times for sure.
Entrees were nicely plated and as described on the menu. Flavorful and nicely matched. Service was a bit rushed and inattentive , had to flag down the waiter to order another glass of wine and was never asked upon delivery of our entrees if they were prepared to our liking. Acoustics are very loud. While I understand the schoolhouse is an old structure, attempts should be made to dampen the decibel level. This was our fourth visit to the restaurant.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. At first, I thought their prix fixe dinner menu was limited and didn't sound too exciting. Boy, did they prove me wrong! The four course dinner was amaaaaazing from start to finish. We look forward to going back. We will definitely recommend this restaurant to all of our friends. Thank you for your wonderful food, fit for foodies, and excellent service as well. Thank you!!!
Love love love this place. Food is always wonderful and creative. Thursday night is prix fix.... Choice of 2 for starter, first, main, and desert. Other nights are a la carte with choice of 5 firsts and 5 mains. I like it here either way. Cozy and elegant ambiance in a 19th century Schoolhouse in historic Cannondale village. Service always perfect. One of my favorites.
The Schoolhouse is one of my favorite little gems in Connecticut. First off, I had to make a last minute addition to our reservation and the staff was very polite, understanding and responsive. The dining experience was amazing. Great ambiance. A wonderfully converted and appointed old one-room schoolhouse. Beautiful brook running by right outside the windows. It's a great place for a date or a group dinner of 4-6. Some of the best food outside manhattan. We dined early @6 because we brought our 3 year old along with us. The waitstaff treated her very special and she loved it. When looking for a nice dinner out, the Schoolhouse will always be at the top of the list.
What a fantastic dinner!!! I love the innovative Thursday night prix fix dinners because they are so inventive and delicious. Italian friends from Laco Majjiore were visiting and the little schoolhouse in Cannondale couldn't have been more perfect. Wonderful food, attentive and kind service, charming atmosphere. It was perfect and we all adored it!
Thoroughly enjoyed the Thursday night price fixe dinner. Started with a salad, which had a light delicious dressing and beautifully arranged and sliced vegetables and tomatoes. Loved the chicken liver mousse second course. Sea bass was nice with perfectly cooked vegetables. Enjoyed the dessert too. Portions were just the right size so at the end of the meal I felt very satisfied but not stuffed. I would definitely return!
