The Saloon - Newtown Ratings and Reviews
The Saloon is one of our favorite restaurants that we frequent. Always a great meal and lots of choices on the menu for everyone. I had a special with rare tuna with peppercorns and Dijon mustard served over mushroom risotto with Gorgonzola cheese. It was absolutely delicious. It looked amazing and was more than enough for one person. I took half of it home and got to enjoy it the next day again. My husband always get the veal chop and loves it as well. Great dining experience . We can’t wait to return.
I was really hoping for more. My steak was under cooked and I was charged more than the price adveristed on the menu for a drink. The amount was small, it's the fact there was an error bothered me. I was really hoping for a great steak cause I've heard good things. I left feeling I didnt get the steak I came for. The lava cake was good though.
We have been to the Saloon before and have not been happy. We tried again and this was the last time. Both the Crab Cake special and Veal Marsala were awful. The sauces were clumpy and tasteless.
Our servers presented as if they were the bus boy staff. Very disappointing.
Love the Saloon! It is one of the few restaurants that my husband and I go to for our once in a blue moon date night. We are always happy with the food and the service. We come out of there completely satisfied with our meal. Would recommend to anyone for a nice evening out.
We stopped eating at the Saloon over a year ago because the food was poor. Someone said they had been there recently and we tried it again as we live in Newtown. Our appetizers we horrible, we sent them back. My meal was swimming in sauce, the penna pasta was so over cooked it was mushy. Never again, don't waste your time or hard earned $dollars.
I hate to write this as we are big fans of The Saloon, but went this past weekend with friends and the server, Donna, just really turned us off. When your going to a restaurant that you'll be spending over $50/person, you expect the server to not make you feel uncomfortable. Very poor attempt at jokes, made us feel rushed and had a lazy attitude.
We came here for a birthday dinner. Service was very good. I got the salad with the grilled salmon. It was a perfect light dinner. The calamari was a bit undercooked. It did come out immediately but I think 5 more minutes would have helped. Prices are a bit on the high side. But for a local nice dinner this place fits the bill
We have been coming to The Saloon for years and it is by far one of our favorite spots! They have a great martini menu (espressotini and southbeach are the best), tonight my husband had the swordfish and shrimp special and I tried the twin filet special and both were delicious!
The service has always been very friendly and attentive and all the candles really boost the ambiance, feels like you're dining somewhere in center city.
Whether you are looking for a romantic evening, a celebration or just enjoying friends and family....I would highly recommend this restaurant to all!! We love it here!!
5 drinks 3 APPS 4 entries 2 desserts with tip
$280 and one meal my wife barely touched didn't taste right 2 others had a chicken and veal dish and tasted too much sage. Drinks are great especially martinis dessert is also good clams casino the best.
Like the place for drinks and bar food but wouldn't recommend dinner for 4
Food was just ok. Nothing special. Prices were a little high for what we received. Service was extremely slow . Food lacked flavor including the clams casino, shrimp and the sangria seemed to be off in flavor
Probably will not return although the outdoor seating was nice and comfortable
We've been going to the Saloon for years. They make great drinks and always have nice specials. We went with friends and ordered Orange and Caprese salads to share. For our meals, one of us had the filet, while the rest of us ordered fish specials. Everything came out as expected, tasted great, etc. The only negative comment was the service. it was a Friday night before the July 4th holiday weekend ... there was barely anyone in the restaurant and our server was painfully slow. it's a guy we've had many times before , and we've generally been very happy with him, but I guess he had an off day. We'll still go back though ... always good and reliable.
Excellent food, particularly fish options. But, service was off putting to all of our diners. Head waiter was difficult to understand and chaotic - seemed to be running about in a frenzy. Table cleaning staff were very aggressive - pulling away plates repeatedly before diners finished. Would like to come back but hard to justify it unless service improves.
been here many times over the years. This time was disappointing in some areas. Coffee was served "old". Had to return it and get another cup. Why does anyone serve coffee that has been over cooked, especially at $3.00 a cup? The dessert was disappointing also. I asked about the apple dumpling alamode . I was told oh yes, it is very good. Actually is was so bad! The dough tasted like Pillsbury after taste, hardly any apple. Very little dab of caramel, and a dip of ice cream little enough to maybe equal less than a 1/4 cup. The cheese cake, not as good as usual.
Service: on Tuesday night 5/16 Very Short staffed. The older gentlemen waiter was rushing like the place was on fire. OMG... Mumbling his words, as he spoke - very hard to understand without explicit concentration. We remained courteous to him, and understanding. But this is not a professional service, that one would expect at the prices charged.
He did take the apple dumpling off the tab! Over $100 for one entrée, one salad entrée,
3 drinks, and 1 dessert. We will chalk this experience up, and give it another try. Maybe?
But we have been to many restaurants at these prices and higher. No comparison to atmosphere and the class of the waiters/waitresses.
