The Salmon House Ratings and Reviews
We booked the Salmon House on the recommendation of a friend who raved about it but had not been there in some time. I have to say, the view of downtown Vancouver is beautiful and the restaurant itself is very nice. But the rest of the experience was marginal at best. The food is overpriced for the level of quality. I mean really, how can you overcook salmon and halibut in a seafood restaurant? The wait staff was nice but not very attentive - it seemed like maybe there weren’t enough people working. Also, I had mentioned that it was my wife’s birthday, but no effort of any kind was made to recognize that. I did appreciate that it was no questions asked on replacing the turned glass of Pinot noir I was originally given. I’m truly not a picky person, overall, but I would not be able to in good conscience recommend this restaurant to anyone without some major improvements. We honestly were just in a hurry to get the bill and leave to try and salvage the evening in some way.
This place had gone a little downhill in terms of its food quality. Our meals were overcooked and some food tasted like it had just come out of the microwave. The waiter either had too heavy a load or chose to disappear for great lengths of time. We ended up having to make request through the bus boy (who did a great job), or the hostess. Previously I had pleasant dining here, but tonight didn't warrant the price of the menu. I'm not sure If I'd recommend this place for great food anymore, perhaps it wishes to rest on its laurels as an excellent view point overlooking the city.
The Salmon House brunch is fantastic. We had a small family gathering on a Saturday morning. This is an excellent time (opens at 11 am) to enjoy the wonderful food and ambience of this restaurant. The huge panoramic view of the bay is good from almost every table due to the terraced floor plan, but on a Saturday you stand a good chance of a window seat. A good selection of both breakfast and lunch items, whether surf or turf is your preference. We will be back!
I took my friend Leen here for her 24th birthday. Everything was excellent! From the Christmas decoration, to the service, and of course the food. There were just 3 of us there that night, and even though it was full of people, we felt like we were the only ones there. After having two appetizers, well over a dozen fresh oysters, a seafood salad, two antres (including a full lobster) and two beautiful and delicious deserts, as well as a bottle of wine, I was shocked to see, I didn’t have to spend nearly half of what I brought for that night.
The service was the best I’ve personally experienced. The food was fresh, healthy, and delicious. You can tell everything was cooked and served with care.
I loved the view, our reservation was for 7:30 and it was a clear night, we were able to see all the city lights twinkling through the big windows. The resteraunt was full of cheery families, so be prepared to speak a bit louder than your used to. At least if you get too loud yourself, you’ll blend right in!
We live in Burnaby and driving out there was easier than we thought, it’s right off the highway, but you must drive slow otherwise you could miss the salmon house sign (as I almost did).
I know I will be coming back again for future celebrations!
Thank you Salmon House On the Hill, for such a magical evening!
We have been eating at the Salmon House for over two decades, and have always enjoyed going there because of the location, food and service. However, there needs to be some clarity about service charges. I was informed that 15% would be added to the bill since there were six of us, but the server indicated that it was a mistake and should be when there are eight and not six people. So please have a look at this - we gave the extra gratuity.
The Salmon House on the Hill is one of those restaurants that is fighting to survive in today's market. It's classic atmosphere, great view and traditional great service combined with good food make this one of my faviorate resturants. I took advantage of their set menu and was pleasantly surprised by the quality and portions.
This restaurant will always be stuck in the 80's and that's what I like. Good food, great service and a view that can't be beat makes it unique. The staff still believes in the customer first and everyone goes the extra mile to make each and every experience memorable.
We enjoyed the view and the restaurant itself...it's interesting. We were there at 11am which is the start of brunch. It was slow to get going. We had to ask for coffee to get started. The omelettes were all a bit undercooked. I didn't want bacon in mine but no substitute was offered. Overall my omelette didn't have enough in it so without bacon it wasn't worth the price. Why be skimpy with vegetables? I say I'd recommend it but really it's just a maybe.
