The Salmon House Ratings and Reviews
We have been eating at the Salmon House for over two decades, and have always enjoyed going there because of the location, food and service. However, there needs to be some clarity about service charges. I was informed that 15% would be added to the bill since there were six of us, but the server indicated that it was a mistake and should be when there are eight and not six people. So please have a look at this - we gave the extra gratuity.
The Salmon House on the Hill is one of those restaurants that is fighting to survive in today's market. It's classic atmosphere, great view and traditional great service combined with good food make this one of my faviorate resturants. I took advantage of their set menu and was pleasantly surprised by the quality and portions.
This restaurant will always be stuck in the 80's and that's what I like. Good food, great service and a view that can't be beat makes it unique. The staff still believes in the customer first and everyone goes the extra mile to make each and every experience memorable.
We enjoyed the view and the restaurant itself...it's interesting. We were there at 11am which is the start of brunch. It was slow to get going. We had to ask for coffee to get started. The omelettes were all a bit undercooked. I didn't want bacon in mine but no substitute was offered. Overall my omelette didn't have enough in it so without bacon it wasn't worth the price. Why be skimpy with vegetables? I say I'd recommend it but really it's just a maybe.
The restaurant took note of reservation request and we were seated at the window in a quiet area... we were not in the main dining room (worked best as it was much noisier in there... big groups/families.... we needed quiet due to one of us having a hearing issue.) The server was quiet, pleasant & efficient. All order were correct. We had 1. Trio of Salmon 2. Lobster Tagliatelle 3. Seafood paella 4. Grilled Halibut. We were all pleased with the meals except the paella... it had great seafood but it was served on rice & the diner was expecting a broth... We had 2 desserts.... sharing. Excellent. They were kind to put a sparkler & Happy Birthday on my dessert. Overall, I would definitely go again... just be prepared to pay a lot... it is expensive.
As always it was an absolute pleasure. After 20 plus years of eating here we always find it a 100% enjoyable. Being greeted by familiar faces when we walk into the dining are is always a bonus. The sable fish and halibut special were two of the most fantastic white food dishes I have had. All in all a memorable meal for my wife and I.
The only thing less than perfect about the whole experience
was that OpenTable somehow got my name wrong (which could
have been confusing for the first couple to arrive, although I did
try to amend the reservation). Everything else about the dining
experience was absolutely excellent. Great food & excemplary
Do you arbitrarily pick the name from the google memory or
the voicemail tag? Even now you still have it wrong!
Yours truly, Ms Louise F Lewis
For the last 25 years or so, I've visited the Salmon House about every few years. I do not live in Vancouver. After speaking so highly of the place to my spouse (first visit), I was very disappointed - which started with the grumpy hostess who had absolutely nothing to say to us, even as we tried to make small talk. This was followed by a grumpy busboy who also could not utter anything. Our waiter, although nice, was very very slow. I had to get up to find him to pay. The food was ok.
I wrote review on seafood for two last time. Suggesting 2 pieces of King crab for the order instead of one. We really got two big pieces this time. Really happy about it. We ordered bread this time quite worth the money. Service is as good as before. Got the window seat as requested. Everything good except fish is a little over cooked, so it is quite tough for halibut.
Over all happy.
My partner and I decided to have the Tower 3 level dinner. While the food choices were good, I found the dinner got cold quickly even though we had the hot food first it was cool. It was also awkward to eat, bringing food across to your plate without spilling it.
Our companions had an appetizer and then entrée so ours did not arrive until halfway thru their mains which left us eating bread until it arrived
My husband and I have gone to the Salmon House for over 30 years, but this is our first visit in the last five. We were not disappointed. The decor had been updated but still lovely, the service was great and the food fantastic. A perfect choice for a special occasion.
Our meals were good. Only complaint was our appetizer the Salmon House Sampler was relatively "small". Two people shared 1 scallop, 2 slices of tuna & 1 egg roll. Though the appetizer was a "teaser", it was underwhelming @ $21. I won't be ordering that next time. Surprised bread was not complimentary ($3.50 for 4 rolls), as well, soft drinks were not bottomless. We did enjoy the evening with our friends & the view was spectacular.
