I love Saint Austere because they have the best polenta that I have ever tasted. We tried the pasta night this time around and it did not disappoint. I recommend trying all the pasta options and sharing it with a partner. Having a reservation helped tremendously. We were seated almost immediately! The staff was quick, friendly and accommodating.
It is a great culinary and dining experience!
The Saint Austere not only has a distinctive name; this little restaurant in Williamsburg offers well-prepared, reasonably priced & mainly Southern Italian food in a menu of small plates, pasta, and larger plates. Our party of three shared (and enjoyed) everything -- the tagliata, polenta board, pollo tonnato, sunchoke salad, butternut squash, and especially the cavatelli with pork ragu and meatballs, which we liked so much we ordered two portions. The wine list is a bit skimpy (but we enjoyed a good nero d'avola) and there were only 2 desserts available the night we went. I finished my meal with a very nice amaro; we left contented and agreed we'd come back. I recommend reservations, as the Saint Austere is a small space, with only a few tables (raised, wood rectangles with stools) in the rear and more seating at the bar.
Great bar space for a date, great food for a double!!!
Cozy atmosphere and outstanding homemade pasta. Will definitely go back next time I’m in the neighborhood.
All in all a GREAT night and everything was fantastic.. I will definitely be back in the near future!
My neighbour recommended this place to me and he wasn't wrong when he said the food was outstanding. Lots of lovely char going on with the octopus and fish dishes. Everything was fresh and perfectly cooked. The pasta was outstanding. Perfect place for a date night or catch up with friends if you can manage to snag yourself a booking. Between the loud rap music and the tall stool seating arrangements it's probably not a place I'd bring anyone over the age of 70. Unless your grandma's more rock n roll than mine.
Absolutely my favorite spot in Brooklyn! Best homemade pastas, service, soundtrack, and wine list!
The best homemade pasta in Brooklyn! The polenta is life-changing, as is the wine list and the latest menu by their new chef Michael Pirolo. Great reggae and hip-hop playlist plus an art wall featuring Brooklyn artists. Thanks for the charming, fun, delicious meals!
Went here for Valentines Dinner. It was the perfect spot to have a intimate dinig experience. Good wines priced reasonably for a bottle. Food was excellent. Staff was very attentive. This was my first time there and I was happy with the choice for the occasion.
Awesome service and phenomenal food
The ambiance was fun and lively! No gluten free options though and kitchen was very inflexible in trying to accommodate food allergies. I would not return because of that situation unfortunately. The food items we ordered were really good except the meat plate was somewhat skimpy for 21$. We did have a nice time though and the white table house wine and beer were delicious! Get with the program regarding gluten free and we will return!
Amazing!! All the food we tried was fantastic!
Cramped- but what isnt in NYC. Food was great. Service was good except they kept clearing plates and drinks before we finished them. Over all I’d recommend!
Hi all was great but food was overly salty
Incredible food. Muscles were incredible with a rich, creamy broth. The seafood pasta was incredible. The spice was perfect and the seafood was cooked to perfected. Pasta was perfectly al dente. Would love to go back!
John the owner and his staff were great !
Good was incredibly tasty authentic Italia
( not American Italian). The happy hour food options are a fantastic deal you can sample certain items off the full menu for more than half off ! We had about 5 dishes and each one was excellent including dessert the apple crumb with eggnog ice cream!!
Great food, wonderful service, perfect wine pairings in a great quaint space. A lovely experience as always at this spot. The high tops are a little crowded but i understand that is to make the most of the small space. Definitely recommended for celebrations and date nights.
Amazing food! The tasting menu was delicious and a lot of food. It was served family style.
Our server Cordelia couldn’t be nicer and ended up having shots with us...mezcal and Amaro mix that was very gentle going down.
All in all a great experience and highly recommended.
Favorites were peas and straciatella ; chicken; calamari.
Great little spot. Great food. So happy we found it, will def be back!
Love it. Favorite restaurant. Can’t recommend highly enough.
Get the polenta board and octopus. Polenta board comes with all sorts of yummy sides like pork ragu sausage mushrooms etc. the octopus was grilled and tender. We had a great time and owner and staff are personable
The food was perfect for a small birthday gathering. Cozy table for intimate conversation. Food was really, really good.
A table for 4 and we shared the grilled Shishitos (happy hour menu), Mussels (happy hour menu), then Stracciatella, Grilled Calmari, Taliolini, and finally the Roasted Organic Chicken.
Along with a bottle of wine, it was the PERFECT amount of food, and a perfect diversity of flavors.
Amazing, incredible food experience in a lovely place. Try the creamy polenta!
Great food and atmosphere we will come back we love this place
Saint Austere always delivers - excellent food and drinks with attentive and friendly service. This is my go-to for out-of-town visitors and the folks from Manhattan brave enough to hop on the L train into Brooklyn.
Attentive service, good wine picks, delicious share plates! Overall a really nice evening out. Try the amazing polenta.
We love Saint Austre. It is out go to date night. I'm pregnant and had a craving for grilled octopus and their polenta. It hit the spot. Everything we have ordered had been be fresh and delish. You must give it a try.
A little too loud but overall everything was great.
Outstanding restaurant! Great food and drinks. Inventive cocktails and a unique wine list. Great for a casual date or a night with friends. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable
I went to the The Saint Austere for the first time in May and had two dishes which were very delicious and of good quality. The quality and such good taste of the food stayed on my mind so I decided to go back for their tasting menu. The restaurant is small and cozy, just the perfect place for a date or a small group of friends. The wait staff is extremely nice and accommodating as well as knowledgeable about the food and drinks. The food was great from portions to taste to presentation. The most notable dish was the creamy polenta, it was delicious, the spicy sausage and chicken jus really add a very unique and interesting flavor. We did not get a polenta board but saw almost every table get it, if I go back I will definitely be trying that out. The price is great for the quality and taste. The two negative things are that we found ourselves waiting quite a bit for the waiter. Even though it is a small place the waiters get pretty busy during rush hours which made our visit longer than expected. The other negative aspect was that the chairs where pretty tall and after ~2 hours of seating they might start getting uncomfortable. Other than that it was fantastic, would highly recommend to anyone.
Food was delicious and well presented.
Family operated; very proud of the food experience offered.
Very nice staff and very great food! Loved sitting on the table by the sidewalk to people watch.
This is downright the most amaxing restaurant Ive ever been to in my life!!! And trust me!! I go to alot of restaurants!! From the ambiamce to the branzino!! This place is top notch!!!
Good service. The food was outstanding!! Grilled Octopus was great and so tender. The polenta board was perfect, great combo on creamy polenta. Hangar stake like butter. All around great food, you must try it.
Super friendly staff that are very knowledgeable and proud of the delicious food they are serving. We will definitely be returning.
Polenta board. All you need to know. This review has to be 50 characters
Went there for dinner -- there were very few choices for large plates, and the choices were not interesting, so we ordered a pasta and several small plates. The pasta portion - although priced like a full entree and, so the waitress saidm, meant for sharing, was tiny - as were the other small plates. Overall, although everything tasted pretty good, the total result was not at all satisfying as a full dinner. I think this restuarant would be lovely for snacks with drinks --
The one exception was the dessert -- an interesting and delicious take on Tiramisu. But we all left slight unsatisfied and a bit hungary - although we had ordered pasta, three small plates and the Polenta board, for three older and not big-eaters!
This place was phenomenal. The food blew us away. Everything we ordered was delicious. We'll definitely be going back there.
In our week in Brooklyn we had two dinners at The Saint Austere. The first we walked in late at night after getting a little lost. It was so good we returned a few days later. Fantastic bar with brilliant knowledgeable staff. And the food, let's just say someone in the kitchen knows what they are doing, it was delicious. Cannot recommend enough.
I went to the Saint Austere with my girlfriend as a date spot and got the tasting menu with wine pairing for $70 (per person). The service was casual and friendly, the food was very good, and the drinks were excellently paired. The only drawback is that the tables are connected--so you may be sitting next to others.
I would definitely recommend the Saint Austere tasting menu as a casual way to experience a solid tasting menu.
