The Saddle River Inn Ratings and Reviews
Saddle River Inn does so much right, but one key thing that is a big deterrent to returning is the chairs they have you sitting in. They need new chairs! You immediately sink into them when you sit, so you instantly are not at the right height in relation to the table top. Then, your back begins to hurt. A fine dining establishment such as this, absolutely should be seating you in a comfortable, supportive chair - period. Everyone in our party of 4 (aged late 40's to mid 50's) left with their back bothering them. Also the Maitre d' we encountered there this week, reminded us of the unfriendly old owners, sadly. New chairs and they'll be the best restaurant in Bergen County!
This is my third time at the Saddle River Inn. This place never disappoints. Overall, tonight’s meal was one of the best culinary experiences that my husband and I have shared. The service was superb. Jaime M. was our server and he was excellent, to say the least. He was very attentive along with every other staff member. The setting is quaint, rustic and cozy. The meal set up was perfect. I like to sample different appetizers and upon their suggestion, the order of plates was devised appropriately. They split the appetizers for us so we were given individual portions and each course brought a merriment of excitement to our taste buds. I had the most incredible mushroom risotto of wild mushrooms and shavings of truffle. The food is highest quality and the flavors are exceptional...the only thing it is missing is a wood burning fireplace :-)
Service was slow. Waiter was rude at one point (we asked for bread and he replied "Well after I take your order and remove the menus, we bring the bread". That's all well and fine, but we'd been there 1/2 hour already!! And the place was not even 1/2 full!
Food was generally well-prepared, but truffle/mushroom risotto was too salty.
As the evening proceeded, the noise became too loud to hear those at our table!
Not what it was before current ownership!
It was our anniversary. From Anthony who called to introduce the restaurant 5 course menue
to Brian the young charming waiter, they were all very nice and curtious .
The food was very delicious even thoug it was all left to the chef.
I would go back and definitely recommend it to you all readers..
This place was amazing. It’s definitely expense but I thought it was worth every penny. It was our first time there and we went to celebrate our 3rd wedding anniversary. We choose to go with the 4 course tasting menu. It was the right choice. My wife would never think of ordering duck or lamb loin. But she loved it. The staff was very knowledgeable and extremely nice. I’ve worked in restaurants for 15 years and it was the best dining experience I’ve ever had. There’s only one word to describe the food, service, hospitality, ambiance: MAGICAL!
It's been a long time since I've been to The Saddle River Inn. Well before the change of ownership. My recent visit was a culinary pleasure. The place still has the warm country feel from before, and the food and service are still wonderful. The new owner/chef has created his own menu. To his credit the total experience works beautifully. I won't wait as long to return.
Experience at Saddle River Inn was exceptional. Table was ready. All waitstaff was attentive. Food preparation was unique and very good. (Only glitch was that they picked up the desert prematurely - Probably because we were there or awhile and they needed to turn over the table for the next seating)
If I’m honest it was just OK. The location is beautiful and comes with premier service but the food and atmosphere was not as appealing as I had hoped. To go into more detail the food is trying to hard, I had the duck and there were just too many flavors going on. The atmosphere is a little stuffy and in some ways the upstairs part of the restaurant is too dimly lit. The menu comes printed on a light grey background so it’s almost impossible to read in the light. All in all, excited to go, left a little bit disappointed.
Let's begin with the food and simply say it is outstanding. The menu is diverse, including specials, with a well thought out mix of ingredients that are plated and delivered to your table perfectly. If you know food, Saddle River Inn will impress. Someone mentioned that's it's pricey. So are all the other restaurants in the area. The difference - Saddle River Inn is worth it. Save the trip across the river.
Staff is very attentive but a bit clumsy. Just may have been the night and very easily overlooked.
If you haven't been, buy a nice bottle of wine and get to the SRI.
I took my Mom for her birthday and we couldn’t be more pleased. The host was so warm and welcoming and the wait staff couldn’t be more pleasant and accommodating. I let them know in advance my Mom was gluten free and they gave her gf bread and the chef even made her special GF cookies that were delish! Highly recommend TSRI but for adults only.
We had a lovely anniversary dinner at the Saddle River Inn. Brian, our server, offered professional service and helpful suggestions for our dinner selections. The chef prepared our food perfectly.
I had the Foie Gras, which was beautifully prepared and presented along with the Truffle Risotto, which also was amazing. Brian was great to point out that an appetizer portion of the risotto was available and would be suitable as an entrée because both dishes were quite rich.
My husband had the Beef Tartare and the Crab Risotto - both were delicious.
It was a lovely evening, lots of celebrations going on - anniversaries and birthdays - which made the atmosphere festive. The evening reinforced our feeling that the Saddle River in is one of the most unique and enjoyable dining establishments in Bergen County.
Overall, SRI was a GREAT experience. For a special occasion, it was memorable. We both chose to do the six course tasting menu. The awesome thing was that they allow each person at the table to have a different tasting for each course. Being able to taste 12 different things in a night is something that I loved.
The only thing I can say is that the portions were just a tad on the small side; even after 6 courses, I still felt like I needed a bit more to eat. When I do go back, I will most likely order directly off the menu. Everything sounded great and I think it would be a bit more filling to order an app and entree.
But overall everything was outstanding. The service was GREAT.
Really nice atmosphere and great staff. The service was a little slow, but very good. It's a BYO, which we didn't know (our fault), so we didn't bring any wine. However they actually offered a bottle from their "personal stash", which was incredibly nice. They gave us a bottle of Pinot Grigio at no cost. Pretty rare that a restaurant would do something like that. Our meals were very good and we'd definitely return for another visit (this time, with a bottle of wine).
This was one of the best meals I have ever enjoyed in any restaurant in the world. The experience is so pleasant from the moment you enter until you leave. I had the tuna sashimi as an appetizer and it was absolutely amazing. My entree was the crab risotto which was generously laden with delicious lump crab and was perfectly cooked. We had four different appetizers, four different entrees and 2 desserts and everyone raved about each dish. The service is professional and courteous and the chairs and very comfortable.
The firepit burning outside is a lovely touch. We truly had a memorable evening and I can't wait to go back.
