The Ryland Inn Ratings and Reviews
We were seated at a table in the dinning room near the bar. It was so noisy, we could not hear each other's conversation. They quickly moved us to the back dinning room and it was very much appreciated. We enjoyed the tasting menu which was excellent. The only thing we did not enjoy was the coffee. Otherwise a lovely meal especially after the seating change.
The Ryland Inn is a wonderful place for a quiet or romantic dinner with superb cuisine. Portion sizes are more than adequate and the food presentation was remarkable. My husband had the hangar steak which is served with delicious greens and steak fries. I'm a salmon lover and the mixtures of flavors combined with a perfectly cooked salmon steak was unbelievably delicious.
The staff at The Ryland Inn are more than accommodating to insure their guests are treated like royalty.
My wife and I had a cocktail at the bar which has an excellent atmosphere and a great piano player the night we were there. We moved to our table for an 8:30 reservation right on time and enjoyed an excellent dinner. The 30 oz. pork chop for two was remarkable. Overall, it was a memorable experience
I really enjoyed the food , the drinks and the ambiance which has been dependable and with reliably delicious food since I resumed going there a couple years back. Even had great service while a wedding party was in progress at the facility! I recommend this restaurant to all of my friends and business associates too!
I liked the revamp of this restaurant. It doesn't feel quite as pretentious as its predecessor. The service, while extremely friendly, felt as if they were trying a bit too hard. A little more relaxed and my review would be even better. No complaint, just that I felt as if I had to make our server relax a bit. Kept apologizing for over attention, then under-attention, then something else. Perhaps was a new staff member. Food was wonderful. Loved the king crab special as well as the black bass.
At $250 a person...the restaurant is just not worth it...the service was mediocre...I resented the attempt to "sell add-on's" like truffles...it was okay...the place looks great but the food is not what is was before the catering facilities were completed...I think they are stretched in terms of food quality and service.
It's not really casual but the restaurant is not very welcoming for any other purpose. Food is expensive, limited wine list. Food was ok for this price range. This was a much higher end and more romantic prior to the flooding / water damage this place suffered some years ago.
It was out of commission for years and came back as what it is today, not as good as the original. Don't get me wrong, everything at this place meets a certain standard and it does everything well, from food , service etc but I wish they had made it more elegant and romantic and brought back the original staff mainly in the kitchen.
Looks like a beautiful venue for a wedding, but dinner on a Saturday evening was not so great - kind of like an afterthought. Our server was way too busy to provide the kind of service he probably wanted to provide. Food was inconsistent. We shared oysters that were very good, and an arugula salad that was teeny tiny with way too much dressing that was not very good. The seared tuna was great though and the lamb special was also very good. I had a cheese plate for dessert that had 3 little dots of cheese that were not too exciting, served with two dabs of some kind of a sour jam on the plate. Even the chocolate dessert was disappointing. Nice wines and beers, but I don't think we'll be returning.
We celebrated our first anniversary with the tasting menu, and I'm so glad we came here! They greeted us with a sweet card and personalized menus for our special dinner. It was so delicious and included a lot of food we would not have otherwise ordered. Our waiter was so kind and attentive, it was wonderful. The food is always fantastic - definitely worth the cost.
This was our first time dining at The Ryland Inn other than attending a wedding there a few weeks earlier. The Inn is lovely, inside and out and our server was excellent. However, we all felt the menu was pretty limited and it is expensive. My seared tuna entree and brussels sprouts salad were both excellent but the dessert of apple cake was dry and ordinary.
Our table was right inside the dining room next to the bar. It was a Friday evening and the bar was quite busy and noisy. In the future I would ask to be seated farther away from the bar area.
I'm glad we were able to see what dinner there is like but we will not be going back for a dinner.
The Ryland Inn never fails to deliver with its beautiful decor, great ambiance and fantastic culinary delights. First class all the way, and it is great for special occasions that really make them feel “special”. Great for anniversaries, special birthday or that romantic dinner with someone special!!!
This was our first time back after the Ryland Inn re-opened. It had been a memorable spot, for the food. service and environment. We were not disappointed in the least and it lived up to all expectations. We look forward to many more great memories at the Ryland Inn.
Great meal in a beautiful setting. Service was great, both at the bar and at the table. Food was great and the Scotch selection is stellar. A few more wines by the glass would be nice and the quinoa brownie was so-so. Other than that, we will be back often. Love this little gem in West NJ!
Outstanding, the tasting menu was exquisite. Inventive pairings of some truly top notch home grown produce and local meat for an authentic meal. The staff are knowledgeable and working to politely enhance your experience with their descriptive explanations of each course brought to the table.
The renewed Ryland Inn is celebrating their one year anniversary and is better than ever. We had the most amazing Anniversary dinner there last night. We dined in the private Chef's Room and enjoyed watching Master Chef Christopher Albrecht and his Chefs perform their culinary art. The tasting menu was fabulous, the ambiance was wonderful and the service was excellent They are also working with local farmers and offering family style Sunday events. I offer the highest recommendation for dining at The Ryland Inn.
After such wonderful reviews it was a completely disappointing experience. The cocktails are very nice and done well. Our service was deplorable. I do not blame the waitress, she admitted she was new, I blame her training. We were there on a Sunday for a birthday. The restaurant was very much empty - only two other tables. We sat for 15 minutes before being approached. It was another wait before we ordered and at THAT point, we were told 3 of the menu items were unavailable! There are only about 8 entrees to begin with. Of course these were our selections. This produced more of a delay. By time we ordered 40 minutes passed with not even bread. The wine we ordered came after the appetizers. My pasta appetizer was cold, the collard greens with the steak were so bitter they were inedible. The food overall was ok, but for the price, not worth it. The waitress was very uninformed not knowing how many people a side would serve, if she could split a bill or even where the bathrooms were! We had such high hopes too....
As usual, the Ryland Inn did not disappoint. The food was superb and the service is always excellent. This was a birthday celebration and everything was perfect from appetizers, entrees, desserts and wine. Always a night to remember when you go to the Ryland Inn. First rate and always great!,
I've been to the Ryland Inn twice before and sadly, the most recent visit didn't meet our expectations. There were 4 of us, celebrating a birthday, and we made the reservation weeks in advance. The restaurant was just beginning to fill when we arrived at 6:45 but there was also a wedding that night. We felt overlooked for the majority of the night; e.g., bread was not offered (although 2 tables seated after us received theirs) until we asked, drinks took 15 minutes or more to receive, dinner wasn't served until 8:30, although we ordered shortly after sitting, after dinner drink was forgotten altogether. The menu also seemed to be more limited than those in the past and portions (with the exception of the entree protein) very small for the expense. We probably won't return for our next celebration.
