This is a nice modern and spacious pub, the waiting staff were lovely, and helpful, and the quality of food was decent. Sunday lunch was let down though by music that was much too loud and a portion of beef (£17.50) that could only be described as measly, if being generous, which the chef certainly wasn’t. Fix these points and I’d rate The Rye a lot more highly for Sunday lunch.
We were a big party and the rye was very accommodating and understanding of the high chair requests etc. 2 of our party were very late and the staff made no fuss about a delay in ordering. Thanks a lot! Food was overall good: a couple of people’s not quite as good but big party and you can’t win every time on a busy Sunday.
Table at the back.for table of 2. Ok until the pub started to fill up and then far too noisy.
Brilliant service. Lovely food.
Lovely atmosphere and great service as always. Would definitely recommend - we regularly bring family and friends for lunch. Prawn linguine was amazing. Roast was slightly disappointing as potatoes weren’t crispy and had a re-heated quality. Surprising because they’re usually good.
Food is lovely, nice atmosphere, Charlie was very welcoming
Been here before and had good food, returned with two friends and did not have the same experience. Had to wait 20 minutes to have our drinks order taken. Ordered the roast beef, which my first one had a hair in so sent it back. The waitress apologized and requested a new one. Overall the food was very poor and had little taste. The overall experience was not what I remembered.
Lovely Sunday lunch. Staff were very friendly and attentive. It was nice to have the option of dishes from the usual menu as well as roasts.
The food was good - had a Sunday roast and it was as you would expect, veggie option also tasty and good portions. I would say service was a little casual. Service charge of 12.5 % included automatically which means nobody is particularly making an effort...and this showed. It was noisy - rather echogenic in the restaurant, esp with the tv turned up loud for the tennis! On the whole though we left full and satisfied. Have the sticky toffee pudding if you have room.
We always come to The Rye when we have a family get together, it's a very nice and friendly pub with plenty of space including a beautiful seated garden area to chill and enjoy.
The food served is absolutely gorgeous and you can actually see through to the kitchen and see your food being prepared by the chefs, yummy.
All in all I'd recommend The Rye to anyone wanting a nice drink and or a meal, staff are really friendly and attentive.
Hi Jackie B, Thank you for taking the time to review us. Your review means the world to us and keeps us motivated. In particular I'm thrilled that we are keeping our locals happy and satisfied. Hopefully see you soon, Team Rye.
We had a great time at the Rye - hadn't been for a while but love the ambience and food is always good. Excellent service from Magda. The only thing stopping it from being full 5 stars was that they'd run out of roast chicken by 6pm - obviously a busy day. Loved the live music too.
After the sad demise of the Lord Palmerston, was hoping to find a great Sunday lunch pub. This place was truly awful, poor vfm and i hope its bulldozed for a Wetherspoons! Staff were clueless and its was a colossal waste of time
Fantastic roast dinner, lovely pub and beer garden but annoyingly you can’t order the pub food in the garden as they have a bbq.
Nice table inside, although quite busy near the kitchen doors & pass. Unfortunately they had run out of a fair few menu items, which was a shame as the extensive menu on their website was what had lured us there (with the family).
Food was generally nice (chilli nachos v good) and decent kids offering too - would like to go back when the full range of dishes is available though!
Lovely pub with fab garden and bright dining area. Fab roast dinner and also great choice of vegetarian options. Booking was easy and staff attentive even though a busy Sunday!
Excellent Sunday roast with good portion sizes. Good value for money too. We shall return!
Just a bit pricey but lively light spacious pub with huge beer garden
We had a lovely meal in a lovely relaxing space, with really friendly service. Looking forward to going back
Great atmosphere but service was a bit manic -table was late in becoming available, service was slow
We had such a lovely Sunday lunch with friends! Magda looked after us and she couldn’t have been more welcoming! I will now always recommend for both the food and the hospitality!
Family birthday Sunday lunch
Food and ambience great, service was very slow - but it was very busy
Great food, service and atmosphere, as usual. Thanks, we’ll be back soon!
This is the best Sunday roast I’ve had in London for a long time. All people in the party agreed that the portions were substantial, tasty and great value for money. The Rye was very accommodating, especially as our plans changed at the last minute. It was a peaceful and enjoyable lunch out. We will definitely visit again.
Excellent service, great food and drinks. Lovely Sunday roast. We were well looked after the whole time. Thank you.
Really good pub food (not as easy to get as you might think in England).
We had our team Christmas meal and the food was excellent as was the customer service, we couldn't have asked for better! This was our second year there!
Always love going to the Rye. Good portion sizes for your money and a pretty darn tasty Sunday roast!
Also got the sticky toffee pudding, which I would recommend.
Food is super good, there's petanque and table tennis in the garden when it's warm & great to sit in the bar area when the footie's on!
The Rye seems to have a slight identity problem. It charges a hefty whack for a nice full plate of roast lunch but expects you to eat it either with exceedingly loud music blaring or sport fixtures on. There's nothing wrong with either of these options for a pub but I would suggest if you're out for a sociable meal with friends you want to hear each other. For me, the Rye missed its mark.
One of the best roast lunches I've ever had. Had the Vegetarian Haggis option and it was so delicious. Would come again on a Sunday. It gets busy so book before!
Lovely food! Recommend the pie and fish and chips. Plenty of meat in the pie and the fish has a nice light batter with fresh flaky fish.
There was a little muddle up with our table to start (not being ready and I booked 5 days in advance) however, the staff where quick and apologetic.
My only complaint was that the music was blaring too loud at the main eating area of the pub which meant myself and my parents couldn’t even hear each other. I know it’s a pub, but I have eaten here plenty of times and was sure the back area had a more quieter, relaxed feel than the front where the large screen is! There was a large party who insisted on standing and hovering right near us as we ate, it felt like we where crashing a private party! the staff did inform us they had booked for 10 and around 30 turned up (not their fault but v off putting with drink folk hovering at your back)The waiter was nice and apologised for this.
Overall, service is good and food is great, I just won’t be planning to have a civilised meal in a Saturday here again! will be back, I just think we had a stroke of bad luck!
We had a roast dinner here with friends but wouldn’t go back for a number of reasons. The service was very slow, the roast itself was average and had almost no gravy (we had to ask twice for additional gravy), they ran out of a pudding option very early in service and the tables were far too close together which resulted in not being able to get out very easily.
Excellent food, good drinks selection, friendly staff. Large outside area in back and some out front. And they have big screens if you want the sport. Definitely recommend.
always a good idea to book but walk ins can be pot luck.
Has great atmosphere for casual get together even when football is on it isn't unbearable.
Food always good especially the fat chips.
Maybe bar staff could be bit friendlier
We usually book a large table for a group of friends. Service is always friendly and the Sunday Roast always a treat. The outdoor space makes this a good pub to visit in summer, and our group includes children who always feel welcome as there are children's menus. We keep coming back as we know that everyone will enjoy this place.
Just loved it and staff really great will be back for sure
We shared a super big portion fish and chips, no complaints!
LOVED THE MARCHING BAND FOR THE FOOTBALL!! Great touch.
Loved this place for Sunday lunch. Staff were very helpful and the (vegetarian) Sunday lunch was absolutely brilliant, way above the standard of the average pub lunch. Will definitely be back.
My husband and I booked Sunday lunch for 6 as we were in London for the weekend and wanted to take some family out. They didn’t have our booking even though I have an email confirmation. We had to sit at the outside front which wasn’t very comfortable. The service was really slow and our used plates were sat in front of us for ages and we couldn’t even find anyone to pay. They also ran out of proseccosand couldn’t make a Bloody Mary as they were out of something else. It was a busy day and the footfall has been on but that should be expected at the weekend.
To be fair the manager was running around doing everything he could but his staff were shocking and never around he looked like he was on his own. The food really was great but they need better staff.
The waitress was grumpy and the food was quite poor. The waitress seemed to be put out any time we asked for service, including a moment when my partner walked to find the waitress to ask for some mustard, resulting in the waitress thrusting the kitchen's industrial-sized pot of mustard into her hands and telling her to pour it herself into a small ramekin. In addition, my burger was cold and dry. I live locally but will be doing my best to avoid The Rye for food from now on.
