Such a great staple to downtown - one of our favorites. Always amazing dishes, and the usuals. Always recommended!
Beautiful, elegant setting, great location for downtown events!
However, the servers seemed overwhelmed and it took about 20 minutes after being seated for anyone to show up to take our drink order. Then at least another 35 minutes before the food showed up. The food is a bit pretentious, to say the least. There were 4 of us, most of which have traveled the world (pretentious?) and not afraid to try new things so when 3 out of 4 of us settle on the burger, it's not a good sign. Even the burger was trying too hard, flavorless and missed the mark.
I really, really wanted to like this place! And I will try it again, maybe it was an off night?
To be clear, the maitre'd and server were gracious and did their best to give us a good experience but they were definitely short staffed, and ultimately the food was just ok.
One of our favorite restaurants. It's been very consistent.
Mothers and sisters pasta they say, was great. The steak I had, although had great flavor, the steak itself was extremely chewy to a point I had to spit out a quarter of it. I would suggested using a better piece of meat and this would have probably been an excellent dish.
The food was great. The owners William and Kathleen made a point to check on our experience. The waiting staff was attentive and spot on. Overall a unique and memorable experience. The deviled egg appetizer is a must with enough to share.
We went to celebrate our anniversary and had a wonderful experience. Would definitely go back and will recommend to others for a great evening out downtown.
The quality of the food has gone down significantly in the past 6 months. We have had to return something the last two times we have eaten there. Service is spotty with the staff more interested in personal conversations than serving the customer. I would not recommend this location - overpriced, limited menu, quality barely average.
Food was excellent, service was friendly but slow. We had a show to go to and couldn’t order dessert as we had no time.
We try to eat here whenever we go to the Dr. Phillips Center for an event. The food is amazing!
The menu has solid basics such as the burger and fries but also offers some interesting surprises like the shrimp puffs that accompany the seared tuna.
My overall experience was just not what I expected. The menu was limited and the service was extremely slow, which was disappointing seeing how there were hardly anyone in the restaurant. Also the girl behind the bar was talking to her friend and was so loud I couldn’t even have a conversation with my friends at our table.
This restaurant can highly recommended because of the farm to table style menu! We had a reservation for 8 people, they seated us at a small table in the bar area, eventually they were able to accomodate us at two tables pushed together which was much better. In my experience in the restaurant industry, it's great to pre-set the tables with waters for larger groups, it helps save time! It tooks us 15-20 minutes just to get water, then to order drinks and dinner was another huge ordeal. We were sat 8:30p and didn't get our food until almost 9:30p. Our server seemed confused and frustrated with us. One member of our group orders salad that was on the specials menu and ask for a didn't dressing, server had to ask the chef, then the bartender behind us made a comment about it then finally the server remember. Waters were not refilled but once during our meal. No manager came over during our meal to say hello or check in us, usually table touches are normal for nicer restaurants. Overall the food was tasty but the service was terrible that we were not able to enjoy it. We were celebrating a friends bachelorette.
Have been the Rusty Spoon several times, always had a good meal. This time wasn't the case. We were seated, given the menu and ordered drinks, when the waitress came back with our drinks we ordered a starter of the Butcher's Plate. Our waitress put in the starter order, then never returned. We wanted to order our entree and another drink, but she totally ignored us. Tried getting her attention, asked the server that brought out our starter to send her over.....no luck. We had concert tickets so had to leave. Totally disappointed this time.
Went for dinner before a concert. The server was very friendly but seemed a bit overwhelmed. She was knowledgeable about the menu and helped me pick something vegetarian. We started with the onion rings. They were very taste. I chose the pasta that had mushrooms. It had a great flavor but the portion was very small I wish it was bigger. Left after an appetizer and main dish feeling hungry. We had heard great things about this restaurant but not sure if we will return.
Great place for pre-concert eats and drink! Food was excellent, good variety and quality.
Was very excited to visit The Rusty Spoon. Menu looked good online. Interesting food combinations and choices. There were 3 of us. One in our party arrived early and ordered a drink from the bar. She was the only person there and tried to engage with the bartender...who ignored her. Okay, just opening up maybe she was busy. The hostess was pleasant and seated us. I personally had looked at the online menu to make it easier to decide what i wanted. What I had chosen from online, was not available, a couple items were not available. Okay, Market to Table.
I ordered the Haystack fries. They were mediocre, could have used salt and pepper as well as the Deviled Eggs which sounded divine. They were not. What they were was quite bland and uninspired.
My dinner was the Whim, which was swordfish over roasted pumpkin etc. Very tasty. Could have used rice or potatoes to go with it, or even bread. (Which is not offered as they don't have bread.)
The dessert I have to say was excellent. Pistachio cake with strawberries. And the chocolate donuts in lemon sauce.
Dinner was mediocre at best. Service, was not great.
Food was amazing, service was spot on. Highly recommend.
I was looking forward to this farm to table style restaurant. The menu looked really good and I narrowed it down to a pasta dish with herbs and mushrooms. I’ve never had a pasta dish that came in broth. While the flavor was good, the presentation and overall execution was lacking. It was easily something I could make at home, but probably better. I also got a rum cocktail “Old Cuban” and it had a very odd flavor. I finished it and didn’t complain, maybe it was me. My husband did enjoy the Chicken Schnitzel. Food was overpriced considering. There are other local restaurants in the area that are away from the touristy Church St. area that are much better. I doubt I’ll be back.
Food was amazing and so delicious! Great for special occasions. The servers and hostess were so nice and courteous for our special birthday dinner for friend.
The restaurant was extremely noisy and the service slow. Food was very good.
I took my mother here the day after Valentines Day. It wasn't over crowded, the service was great, and the food was fantastic. I will definitely come back.
We were there for Valentines Day. We actually could look into the men’s room while we dined so they should really have another door that leads to the restrooms because you could smell the cleaning products.
Other than that the food—two steaks, one burger and one lamb handheld—was very good but way too much fat on the lamb. The tomato and mozzarella salad and the oysters were great. The wine excellent. Our server was very good!
Great, unique food - different from (and better than) most of what's around Church Street and the arena.
Our waitress Cat was
The food was delicious and we were through in plenty of time to get to Dr Phillips. It's the perfect place to have a meal before the show!
Service was mediocre and food was bland. We had to walk next door to another restaurant for dessert and drink to have a enjoyable night.
My husband and I visited The Rusty Spoon on a Saturday night. We had a reservation and were seated immediately. Our waitress greeted us warmly and answered my questions about the dinner and cocktail menus. However, that is where the good service stopped. For 2 of 3 courses, at least one of us had to request silverware (my soup was served without a soup spoon, and, my husband's salad was served without a fork or knife). We ordered the clams appetizer, caesar salad, onion soup, pasta, and seafood grits. Portions were small (my husband dug into leftovers in our fridge when we got home). Everything tasted good and was prepared well, but not exceptional. When spending $150-200 for 2 people, I'd like for at least one dish to be memorable. Given other restaurant options within immediate vicinity, we wont' be returning to The Rusty Spoon.
Food was fine, service was terrible. I had to ask for a manager just to get no onions on my burger. Manager did not have courtesy to even come by, but server came back with the huge favor they were doing for me to not put onions on my burger. Geez. Server Matthew was not friendly, not knowledgeable. I thought he was our busboy/water person based on his initial question about water type, no hello's or welcomes, just what kind of water. That kicked off a very unpleasant service night. We felt more like an inconvenience. No one wants to hear how busy you are fyi, especially when we look around and half the tables were empty.
Love that the menu changes. It’s very loud in the restaurant when the restaurant is busy.
We booked a 6pm reservation for dinner for 4. We had tickets to Hamilton at the Dr. Phillips Center (beginning at 8:00PM). We arrived on time and were seated immediately, and this was really the only part of the experience that met expectations. Our server was nice enough, but the service was quite poor. It took about 10 minutes for her to take a drink order. We ordered our entrees at approximately 6:25PM. Our server took a second round of drink orders at approximately 6:35PM and we did not see her again until 7:25PM. at 7:10PM I got up to look for another server to check on our food. She returned fairly quickly and told us that our order had been put in a long time ago and she was unsure what the delay was, but she would notify the manager. Our server then reappeared at 7:25PM and apologized saying that she put the order in and wasn't sure what the delay was in the kitchen.
Our food was brought out at approximately 7:30PM. Three of the four entrees were prepared fairly well and tasted good. The fourth entree (a steak that had been ordered Medium) came out and at least half of the steak was very rare. It appeared to be obvious that they had tried to cook the steak very quickly without concern for cooking it properly. Given our time crunch to meet show time (caused by the extremely poor service), we didn't have time to send the steak back, instead we had to quickly eat our meal, pay, and leave.
The manager never came over to the table and no bill relief was offered. Our server apologized, but an apology only goes so far when the restaurant clearly messed up greatly and didn't offer any accommodation or bill relief. The Rusty Spoon bills itself as an excellent downtown restaurant. Given their proximity to the Dr. Phillips Center and the wide publicity of Hamilton, I expected much better service for a 6PM pre-show reservation. Overall the performance was extremely poor for the price point and I wouldn't return or recommend to friends or family.
Consistently great food and good service!
Going to see Hamilton at the Dr. Philips Center for the Performing Arts.
Great for a business dinner with a client. We had a group of 10, the service and food were great.
The special salad with roasted vegetables was fairly blah. Lettuce, carrots, and beets. Expected more variety based upon bartender description. Added blackened chicken at his suggestion. Not sure chicken was fully cooked. Did not meet expectations compared to previous visits.
great food, great service, wish we had better seats but that's not a big deal, food was delicious
I was experiencing stomach issues, so I requested that my fish be served with the sauce on the side. The server said he would check with the chef. He returned to the table and said she would not do that. Our server did not seem well informed about the menu or even the operating procedures of the restaurant. He generally made our group feel uncomfortable. The meals all arrived at different times with no explanation from our server which I found unusual for a party of 6. This is not our first time at this restaurant but it is the first time we had a negative experience.
Found this online and was totally blown away. Everything was amazing.
Great presentation, but didn't live up to expectations when it came to the food. It's a bit pricey, and I don't mind paying a higher price for my meal, as long as the food meets expectations. The service was great, the enviornment is very pleasing, but based off of my food choice, I would pass in the future.
Delicious! I wish I could have eaten everything on the menu. everything was fresh and flavorful.
Kat was an amazing server! The food was excellent!! So fresh! My husband’s burger was incredible!!!
