The food was not very good. I paid around $15 for a small bowl of dumplings. The chicken dish just tasted like paprika and was dry. We felt like we were ripped off leaving. Two thumbs down
Best place in downtown Austin to celebrate with a group. Ambiance is fantastic; food is very good; prices are a real value and the vodka is an experience. Can't go wrong at The Russian House
We go with regularity to the Russian House and have always loved being there. The food is not limited to Russian, but includes
various countries in the old Soviet Bloc. The food is extremely interesting and well prepared and the wait staff, which is also from Soviet Bloc countries, is fantastic.
We enjoyed tasty authentic Russian food which is a unique experience. Excellent service. It was a pleasure
Had a great time! Super authentic food that reminded me of home and Julie was a very attentive waitress. Sunday buffet was a great way to get my friends to try everything.
A great restaurant for those interested in experiencing Russian cuisine and Soviet-era Russian pop culture/kitsch. Friendly staff with fluent English and Russian speakers, excellent authentic cooking, and a great drink menu. Family friendly in terms of accommodating a 2 year old, but a place that serves alcohol, and a dining area adjoined to a bar area.
Yet another outstanding meal at the Russian House. I make sure it’s a part of all my Austin trips.
Great restaurant and even better bar. Only complaint is that our reservation was at 8pm and we weren't seated until around 8:30, but that is because other people were sitting there. The bar is a great place to check out when you're waiting, though.
Our second time here. Russian food isn't my very favorite, but what is served here is well done and authentic. The best part about the Russian House is the ambiance that allows you to imagine you're in a Russian novel.
We loved our experience at The Russian House. Authentic atmosphere and menu. Our server was wonderful and we all enjoyed our dinner choices very much. We will be back!
Four friends who love Sampling the appetizers, had a better than adequate dinner here. Standouts were the liver Pate and smoked fish platter. Unfortunately the happy hour menu with terrific prices is only available at the bar which is not conducive to conversation amongst 4 mature women. Nevertheless the bill was affordable and the environment nice and quiet. Interesting Russian arts and crafts to enjoy as well.
Loved the place. A bit of cold war mixed in with Austin culture. Most important, food is excellent.
It was great. Stuffed cabbage was terrific
Food at the Russian House was good, the service excellent and the ambiance typical of 6th street Austin. The cost was reasonable resulting in good value. Recommend a visit for a causal dinner.
Excellent food and the House-infused vodkas are amazing. The pelmeni was amazing.
Good authentic Russian food. No complaints about the quality and taste. The Gluten-Free menu needs some careful scrutiny.
It was ok. Table Service was authentic and friendly. The menu offers a large selection of dishes and delicacies to choose from. My only complaint was that the food was served luke warm. Noticeably so, even after a few vodka shots. While I understand kitchens get busy and stuff happens, skewerd meat should be served hot. Still.. I would go back to try other dishes.
The lamb kabobs where like meatloaf on a stick. I guess I should have read the menu better. I really was not impressed with the food or price.
What a charming evening! The food, drinks and ambiance were incredible and the service was absolutely perfect! I will definitely be coming back!
They cancelled my open table reservation when I arrived at the restaurant, so we had to sit in the bar area. There is no table service in the bar area, so I had to go back and forth picking up my food for my family. They also didn’t give me my open table points. I had to complain to open table to get those posted. Food was good, but i cancelled my valentines reservation with them.
The lighting is a bit too bright in my opinion, but everything else during dinner was fantastic!
Afterwards, we wanted to stay in the bar/lounge area, but after 20 minutes, we could not get a drink, so we left.
We really enjoyed ourselves. The food and VODKA was AMAZING! The caviar and vodka combo was a personal favorite. Regarding service, out waitress was super helpful and gave a lot of personal attention. The restaurant itself was not very busy but it was definitely a gem of an experience. Definitely recommend.
My husband and I discovered the Russian House the weekend we moved our daughter into her dorm room at UT in 2014. We go back every time we come to Austin. We've celebrated our daughter's 21 birthday here with several of her friends gone with just another couple and even had a date night. This latest time we met the parents of our daughter's boyfriend. Every time we have had a wonderful time and so the people we have gone with. We like to order family style. The more people in the group the greater number of dishes you can try. I highly recommend The Russian House.
We had a great time and enjoyed the live klezmer music. Waitress was very friendly. Many members of waitstaff are native to Russia or Ukraine. Decorated to feel like a Russian home in the 60's or 70's. Cozy. Portions are small for the price. Great selection of vodka. Vegetarian friendly.
Awesome food, ambiance, drinks and live music! Very special combination that makes for a memorable and fun evening!
The menu is extensive. And perhaps russian food in general lacks flavor. The appetizers were flat. The entree was not satisfying. I have been there a few times. Not going back.
Such a great little place! Delicious food, and even better as it is something different from the many variations on Tex-Mex and BBQ. The food is great, the atmosphere is fun and cozy, and the staff is very friendly. It is like being transported to a Slavic grandmother's lace and tchotchke filled dining room.
Went here to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday and it was a great experience! Very authentic and the food was amazing! Definitely will come back again!
We had such a lovely dinner in a rather private alcove. The wait staff was attentive and the food was delicious.
Worst service I’ve ever had. We had to negotiate our bill when the server brought the wrong order. Super weird experience.
The menu has many choices and the waiter was very helpful in explaining the many unfamiliar dishes. Everything we tried was excellent.
Fantastic and very authentic food! The decor was akin to an old Russian home. I loved the infused vodkas. The service was wonderful. Best dining experience I’ve had in Austin!
We were surprised that only buffet was available for Sunday brunch/lunch. However, it turned out to be a great value as we got to sample a variety of great dishes all for one price!
Delicious food and very friendly staff! I always bring friends here to try the food since it’s a unique menu!
Great experience. Exceptional service in a unique setting.
NEW YEAR'S EVE 2017 WAS A GREAT EXPEREINCE AT THE RUSSIAN HOUSE. GREAT FOOD, WONDERFUL SERVICE AND OUTSTANDING VODKAS.
Food was great! Reservation is required, which makes it so efficient. Our waitress was very prompt with our drinks and food and was very friendly.
This is our go to place downtown. A fun place with Eclectic Eats. If you want something totally different this is the place for you
A genuine atmosphere! The servers were attentive and friendly. And the food was quite tasty. We tried a lot of things that we'd not had before: herring, tongue, boar, caviar. All of it was beyond expectation. Such a fun, funky place appropriately in the heart of Austin.
This is a great little restaurant with good ambiance and a pleasant staff. This was our second time eating there. The appetizers (Blini and Herring with Potatoes) were very good. However they were out of the Golubitsky and I opted for the Lula Kebab which was a little overcooked. My wife had the Ukrainian Borsch which was very good.
