The Russian House
Great fun! Extensive menu. Good food. Convivial atmosphere. Kitschy décor from Soviet area. Friendly waitstaff did great job. It was nice to eat at a leisurely pace! Will definitely go back!
The food was good and authentic. It took a long time to get our bottle of wine.
We decided to try Russian fare while at a conference at the Hilton Austin one night. From the expansive selection of vodkas to the amazing dessert, it was a great dining experience. The staff is friendly and the service is great. Try one of the vodkas to see how they have expanded the flavors. I had Chicken Tabaka and it was cooked just to my taste.
Came for my birthday and had the best time! The food and drinks are amazing and the service is top notch. Everything is very genuine and special. I can’t wait to come back!! Thanks for a great experience Russian House!
It was a fun and unique experience for our out of town guests. It was neat trying a different culture of food and it was delicious!
We went to Easter brunch at The Russian House. The good: unique food items. The bad: tables are very close together so hard to have a conversation with your table. The worst thing was blaring ABBA music throughout the entire meal (same 3-4 songs over and over again). I don't understand why 'nice' restaurants think they need a TV blaring during a meal! The TV was showing some sort of Russian MTV version of ABBA and it really ruined the ambience. The food varied from quite good to so-so. Most of the food items were unique, not your everyday brunch offerings. Service was OK -- very pleasant server, but it took several tries to get water and mimosas refilled. No drinks (coffee, tea, etc) are included in the $35 price, and the meal seemed overpriced for the food that was offered.
Russian House was fantastic. I really enjoyed the food and also the décor. I had a great experience.
The Golubtsy was amazing! Loved the experience of Russian dining.
Everything we had was delicious. The menu is a bit overwhelming. The waitress provided useful advice that helped us make our decisions. The free vodka shot was an unexpected treat.
Great food. An extensive menu of vodkas. Wonderful experience if you are looking for something that is not traditional american.
The atmosphere was good. The server was friendly and helpful. There was complimentary vodka shot and homemade sauerkraut (?) that was delicious. Food was hearty and filling. Beet salad called Vinaigrette was a surprising combination that was good. Wish we had saved room for desert. Beets over Texas drink was AMAZING. Checking out took a little time because they were busy, but the other server noticed we were in a hurry and she jumped in to assist. Overall good experience.
We have been to the Russian house a few times and it has always been a great experience so we went for a friends birthday. We usually go as a small group and this time we had 11 people. Unfortunately the service was extremely slow. It took 10 minutes just to get water and we didn’t order our food for atleast 30 minutes from the time we received our water. The food took a long time to come out as well, the food was exceptional however. Our waitress unfortunately was overwhelmed and we were going to order desert but after being there for 3 hours we felt there was no way we could wait another hour for desert.
The place’s so fun! Just the service was kinda slow...
it was the best restaurant experience i have had in my entire time in Austin.
First, the ambience is like a persons home, or bed and breakfast, russuan style. lace table cloths. pictures on wall. very Russian
2- FOOD WAS INCREDIBLE. many home made elements and authentic russian, territorisl and slavic elements. I had belinis with salmon. outstanding. beef stroganov. many textures and and tastes, truffkes mushrooms, etc. beef melts in mouth. the dezert was a KIEV cake with crushed hazelnut spread on top. made in Kiev, frozen and sent here.
Mors is a homemade berry drink that explodes the tastebuds. outstanding. i dont drink, but they make their own vodkas, over 100 varieties from what i saw
SERVICE was slow , a bit understaffed, but the servers were friendly and enthusiastic as well as informative about the nany varieties of dishes.
i wish they had one near me at home
Wonderful place! Great food from the complimentary vodka to the desserts!
Our experience at the Russian House exceeded our expectations. We went because our daughter is from Ukraine, and we knew she would love to eat familiar food. But we all loved the food, and the staff was super friendly. We will definitely be back if we travel to Austin again!!
Definitely an experience. We have a great time, as it felt as if we had the restaurant to ourselves. Only two other tables were occupied. The bartender was helpful and patient, explaining all the different infusions. We could have stayed at the bar all evening if our group was smaller.
Our waitress, Ekaterina, was a native of St Petersburg and very helpful in guiding several of our group through the menu. But, it felt as if she was extremely busy in the kitchen also, as she disappeared for very long stretches. Overall, it was a wonderful meal.
This was an excellent experience (despite it happening in the middle SxSW, which increased the noise and crowd in the bar area, though the dining area is separated). The food was delicious, the vodka's delightful -- and so many types to choose from. My wife and are eagerly looking for our next opportunity to return and try different dishes. What a treasure in downtown!
Our waiter was very attentive, considerate and had excellent customer service skills. He made us feel really welcome. His service was above and beyond. I forgot what his name was, but I remember him saying he was from Moldova. He made the experience a 5 star dining experience.
With regards to the food. It was great. I love your Vodka. I had 2 Vladimir vodka shots. This place is great. I will be coming back to try everything on your menu. So glad to have authentic food close by.
The restaurant set up made me feel at home at my aunt's house when I was younger. Very enjoyable.
If you’re looking for a trendy, happening place then this may not be for you. If you want something unique and tasty and authentic... then it will be. Always a treat!
Terrific authentic Russian food. Love the stuffed cabbage rolls. Good value as well.
Waitress held us hostage, basically disappeared. Food wasn’t worth the price. Meat was dry. Whole place was dirty.
Went to eat with friends on International Women's Day. All women received a white rose and a glass of champagne upon arrival. Loverly! Our little room had a hanging lamp, which had issues. It kept having issues with brightness... bright, then dim, then bright, etc. A couple of people checked it out; seems that they didn't have a lightbulb for replacement. They brought us candles. It was very fitting, in a way. Not an issue, but fun addition to atmosphere. Dining here is always fun.
This was an interesting place to go to at least once. Very unique. I'm just not a big fan of the type of food, but it is good for Russian food. Service was excellent.
Fantastic first time and will be back .The atmosphere was excellent the portions were big and the food was EXCELLENT. WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND. WE WILL BE BACK
Great food! Great service!
I recommend The Russian House. The Kiev cake is wonderful.
Good food, good fun. I really enjoyed the pirzhoki
Great service! Wonderful comfort food.
Very ethnic. I could not get past the appetizers; there were so many awesome items. Fermented items, great condiments to complement the food. Heading back to get to the entrees. Highly recommended.
A wonderful place for traditional Russian fare. The food is fantastic. The employees are authentically Russian and very friendly. The complimentary vodka shot is an added bonus that warms your stomach and soul. The ambiance is awesomely Russian and fun. I love this place. I would reccomend this establishment to anyone
Wow, what an interesting experience. I expected the Russian house to be a semi-authentic experience, but was pleasantly surprised by an entirely authentic experience. I tried new foods like a Russian Blini but strayed away from anything too different- a stew made with crow and rabbit.
For someone looking for dinner that is also an experience, look no further than the Russian House. Also, this is definitely a must love vodka kinda place.
Lovely little dumplings filled with cottage cheese and cherry. We are vegetarians, but there were ample tasty choices. Crepes with condensed milk for dessert was simple yet a delicious indulgence. Casual elegance with decor and lighting. Parking was atrocious but I'll be back nonetheless.
We ate brunch on a Saturday morning and it was delicious. The restaurant was not crowded. The waitress was lovely. We had a very nice time.
Unique atmosphere. The food is good.
The food is amazing, the service is great, and the atmosphere is so comfortable it makes you feel like you're at home or your grandmother's house. My husband proposed to me here, so this place will always be special to us!
Great food, ambiance and authentic experience at Russian House. Will definitely return!
They were obviously somewhat overwhelmed by the Valentine's Day crowd. They made the strategic mistake of having a dessert bar with unlimited champagne, which apparently made some of the earlier reservations stay longer than predicted. We waited 45 minutes, getting seated at 8:45 with an 8:00 reservation (and a prepaid meal). Other than that, everything was perfect. The food there was as always excellent. The staff, although feeling the crunch, were bright and cheerful and helpful.
With a little tweaking, I predict next year their Valentine's Day will be perfect. I'm sure to return.
Russian House is consistently one of my favorite places to eat in Austin. The prices are reasonable, the ambiance entertaining and engaging, and the staff always helpful and pleasant.
Amazing service and great authentic Russian food!
A hidden gem!
Enjoyed Valentine's Day prix fixe dinner, was as advertised. Staff was harried a bit due to crowd, so service a bit slapdash, but jolly and fun. Food varied from course-to-course, again maybe due to need to serve many folks in a short time. Loved the pelmini and Uzbek salad.
