The Russian House
Love the relaxed feel of this place like a comfortable dining room in a friends home. I definitely would return to try more dishes.
Great food and atmosphere! We will definitely come back.
So authentic, wonderful vodka, and a fantastic experience!
I would recommend the Russian House to friends for vodka and other alcoholic drinks. Was not impressed with the food or the service.
Outstanding food and service as always. Highly recommend.
The food was outstanding but the service was way off. Waiter did not clear our table after we finished a course or take the menus away. Took a very long time to get our check. Didn’t want to show us the dessert menu - just wanted to tell us about the desserts. We will go back but request a different server.
My eldest sone recommended Russian House and we were not disappointed. Reminded me of small family run restaurants in Chicago, especially the stuffed cabbage.
Service was not as good as before. We had to ask several times for certain items. One dish was brought cold, as if it had been up waiting to be picked up, and we had to send back for warming up.
Still a fun place and a decent value. Inexpensive but pretty good wine selection.
The whole experience was great for a BD celebration for one of my Sons who had spent some time in Belarus and thought he knew a bit of Russian language. We all had great food and a great time.
Authentic Russian food. Fantastic
We really enjoyed this restaurant and will go again when we visit Austin.
The first time I went to Russian House. It was amazing - food, atmosphere, service. WE LOVED IT!! We went this past Saturday night and while it was nice to be put in a private room - I feel like we were almost forgotten. the room was so hot our ice was melting in the glass quicker than we could drink it, there were five of us and we were all literally sweating. We can stand the heat, being from texas, but that was ridiculous. I would avoid the private rooms and stick with the main dining room. Several times we had to go find our waiter, for our drinks, food and checks. When we approached the manager to find our waiter he acted as though we were bothering him, Even though we said we've been waiting for 45 minutes for our meal. The food wasn't nearly as fresh as the first time and it appeared that the portions were smaller as well. I will certainly try it again since I had such a wonderful experience the first time, but if this had been my first I probably wouldn't go back.
Love the atmosphere, good food and we had a great table. Big fan of this place
The atmosphere is always great here and our waiter was exceptionally cheerful and helpful with food and drink recommendations.
We had the blini appetizer with caviar. We'd likely go with the meat filling next time, but this was tasty. My wife liked her moscow mule with orange-infused vodka and my corpse reviver was perfect. I enjoyed my urek rice dish and my wife's stuffed trout was excellent.
The food is unique, delicious and well-priced/portioned. We highly recommend giving this place a try.
We loved this place! Never been there before but will certainly be there again soon! The atmosphere is super fun and the vodkas are to die for! Try the watermelon and salt! Food was mighty tasty as well and menu is HUGE. Can't wait to get back and try more!
We loved this small intimate dining room. The Borsch soup and Golubtsy - cabbage rolls with ground beef and pork were amazing. The sauce was delicate and very flavorful. We were greeted with a chef's complimentary vodka shot which was smooth and had nice pepper finish. We preferred the chef's complimentary vodka over others.
We can't wait to try this restaurant again!
Go for the food, the vodka is secondary. Authentic Russian dishes cooked very nicely. We tried several different foods all of which were great. We tried the pelmeni with broth. Excellent flavor and texture. The cabbage rolls were delicious and the piroshki was good (alittle bready but still flavorful). I’d like to go back to try different menu items.
The Shaslik skewer was average minus. Had to cut the meat with regular dinner knives which are not built for grilled meats. Taste was nothing special.
The pelmeni was excellent, the ukranian borscht was also good.
Maybe we should have ordered something else. Did want to try the Mantu. There were many new dishes we had wanted to try but only 2 diners and one night.
In all it was a different experience.
The waiter was very new so he did not know much which is a big handicap for new diners at an ethnic restaurant. They should train their new waiters. Though our waiter did the best he could under the circumstances, I feel our experience would have been much better if he had more knowledge.
Though we would recommend others to try it, we would not go there again.
Great place. Unique and authentic. Next to Antone's so I would go here for dinner and next door to Antone's for some music.
I always try to eat at The Russian House when I am in Austin.
My friend enjoys the food as well.
Food was excellent and prices are good.
Very, very slow service. Took 2 1/2 hours so don’t go if you have someplace to be afterwards. Got drink refills once. Waiter was gone once we got our food. Food was good but not great. We won’t be back.
Our guest was born in Russia and felt and reminded her of many of the restaurants there.
Second time eating at this restaurant, the food was great, but the waitress was beyond slow! there was a singing competition going on at the time, so it was louder than usual.
Great fun! Extensive menu. Good food. Convivial atmosphere. Kitschy décor from Soviet area. Friendly waitstaff did great job. It was nice to eat at a leisurely pace! Will definitely go back!
The food was good and authentic. It took a long time to get our bottle of wine.
We decided to try Russian fare while at a conference at the Hilton Austin one night. From the expansive selection of vodkas to the amazing dessert, it was a great dining experience. The staff is friendly and the service is great. Try one of the vodkas to see how they have expanded the flavors. I had Chicken Tabaka and it was cooked just to my taste.
Came for my birthday and had the best time! The food and drinks are amazing and the service is top notch. Everything is very genuine and special. I can’t wait to come back!! Thanks for a great experience Russian House!
It was a fun and unique experience for our out of town guests. It was neat trying a different culture of food and it was delicious!
We went to Easter brunch at The Russian House. The good: unique food items. The bad: tables are very close together so hard to have a conversation with your table. The worst thing was blaring ABBA music throughout the entire meal (same 3-4 songs over and over again). I don't understand why 'nice' restaurants think they need a TV blaring during a meal! The TV was showing some sort of Russian MTV version of ABBA and it really ruined the ambience. The food varied from quite good to so-so. Most of the food items were unique, not your everyday brunch offerings. Service was OK -- very pleasant server, but it took several tries to get water and mimosas refilled. No drinks (coffee, tea, etc) are included in the $35 price, and the meal seemed overpriced for the food that was offered.
Russian House was fantastic. I really enjoyed the food and also the décor. I had a great experience.
The Golubtsy was amazing! Loved the experience of Russian dining.
Everything we had was delicious. The menu is a bit overwhelming. The waitress provided useful advice that helped us make our decisions. The free vodka shot was an unexpected treat.
Great food. An extensive menu of vodkas. Wonderful experience if you are looking for something that is not traditional american.
The atmosphere was good. The server was friendly and helpful. There was complimentary vodka shot and homemade sauerkraut (?) that was delicious. Food was hearty and filling. Beet salad called Vinaigrette was a surprising combination that was good. Wish we had saved room for desert. Beets over Texas drink was AMAZING. Checking out took a little time because they were busy, but the other server noticed we were in a hurry and she jumped in to assist. Overall good experience.
We have been to the Russian house a few times and it has always been a great experience so we went for a friends birthday. We usually go as a small group and this time we had 11 people. Unfortunately the service was extremely slow. It took 10 minutes just to get water and we didn’t order our food for atleast 30 minutes from the time we received our water. The food took a long time to come out as well, the food was exceptional however. Our waitress unfortunately was overwhelmed and we were going to order desert but after being there for 3 hours we felt there was no way we could wait another hour for desert.
The place’s so fun! Just the service was kinda slow...
it was the best restaurant experience i have had in my entire time in Austin.
First, the ambience is like a persons home, or bed and breakfast, russuan style. lace table cloths. pictures on wall. very Russian
2- FOOD WAS INCREDIBLE. many home made elements and authentic russian, territorisl and slavic elements. I had belinis with salmon. outstanding. beef stroganov. many textures and and tastes, truffkes mushrooms, etc. beef melts in mouth. the dezert was a KIEV cake with crushed hazelnut spread on top. made in Kiev, frozen and sent here.
Mors is a homemade berry drink that explodes the tastebuds. outstanding. i dont drink, but they make their own vodkas, over 100 varieties from what i saw
SERVICE was slow , a bit understaffed, but the servers were friendly and enthusiastic as well as informative about the nany varieties of dishes.
i wish they had one near me at home
Wonderful place! Great food from the complimentary vodka to the desserts!
Our experience at the Russian House exceeded our expectations. We went because our daughter is from Ukraine, and we knew she would love to eat familiar food. But we all loved the food, and the staff was super friendly. We will definitely be back if we travel to Austin again!!
Definitely an experience. We have a great time, as it felt as if we had the restaurant to ourselves. Only two other tables were occupied. The bartender was helpful and patient, explaining all the different infusions. We could have stayed at the bar all evening if our group was smaller.
Our waitress, Ekaterina, was a native of St Petersburg and very helpful in guiding several of our group through the menu. But, it felt as if she was extremely busy in the kitchen also, as she disappeared for very long stretches. Overall, it was a wonderful meal.
