The Rumor Mill is located in Ellicott City, Maryland. Since the change to free parking downtown, it is even easier to enjoy the fusion-style bar and restaurant cuisine offered. Since opening in 2007, this eatery loves offering modern food from its historic location.
The tapas-style menu at The Rumor Mill affords the opportunity to be adventurous and try new things. Options include a brie sampler, roasted Brussels sprouts, beet salad, seared salmon, tuna Mediterranean, smoked swordfish, Kobe sliders, rabbit ragu, beef tartare and bison steak. The desserts at The Rumor Mill are made in-house and include Trinity cream and bread pudding. A decadent option is the chocolate peanut butter tart which is designed for two to share.
The food is delicious, but a little pricey, even for Ellicott City.
Superb food and equally wonderful service.
We love rumor mill!! Always amazing food & great service
A friend recommended this great little place hidden away in Ellicott City. The fusion cocktails were fun and the small plates varied and delicious. Our waitress, Ashley, was enthusiastic and offered great service. We were on the second level adjacent from a window that looked out on the cobblestones between buildings -- for a second I thought I was on a European vacation! I’ve never seen an advertisement for this restaurant. It’s a gem!
Incredibly impressed by this place. The food was amazing, and there are lots of unique menu items. I definitely want to go back to try more of them. :) Same goes for their cocktails as well. They have lots of infused liquors, as well as drinks that use them. Highly recommend this place.
Food was amazing. The best Caesar salad I've ever had aand I eat a lot of them!
Great food. Excellent Service. As we were leaving, the chef/owner greeted us and asked us about our meal and experience. Extremely nice touch. He spoke about the various dishes we had for dinner in detail, especially his inspiration for them.
Very good small plates. Good for groups that like to share a variery of dishes.
The ambiance was warm and inviting. The waiters were amazing and tentive. Food was 10 all the way.
The food was tasty, but very small portions - over priced for the value. My desert was supposed to be an apple crumble, but it was more like apple mush and way too sweet.
Service very friendly.
Each dish was better than the last. The salmon scallops were unique and delicious. The server, Griffen, was phenomenal. Matt, the owner, came out and greeted us.
Come for the delicious food, served tapas style, so that everyone may enjoy a bite or two of the dish, then return for favorites old and new. The bar drinks are also delicious, made so by the various fusions done in house - the Blood Orange Blossom is a particular favorite of mine.
Service is always with a smile and the ambiance of the building lends to a charming evening.
Fantastic! We would go there again and would recommend it to our friends.
We came here for my son's birthday. He was looking forward to the smoked swordfish, but a confession elicited from our wonderful waiter confirmed that updating the online menu is something that should perhaps be done with more due diligence. This is a small plates restaurant, and a fusion vodka bar, although they also have infused tequila and bourbons. Their vodka infusion menu is amazing. Go for drinks if you are not hungry. Our party had the pina colada vodka which was sweet, the honey fig infused bourbon, and the jalapeno infused tequila. All were excellent, and sipped straight, except for the tequila which was in a margarita. We had six small plates for our party of five, and it was enough. We had the brussels sprouts, the eggplant, the rabbit ragu, the calamari & prosciutto, the oyster po'boy, and the jalapeno poppers. All were very good; the calamari and prosciutto and the oyster po'boy were amazing and stole the show. The only underwhelming dish was the rabbit ragu, which we all agreed lacked seasoning with an orecchiette pasta that was overdone. This is a great place to come for an adventure in drinking. We ate upstairs, the place has nooks and crannies, so it would be great for a couple, or even a small group. Not sure how kid friendly it is - not a lot of room for strollers or baby seats. Ambience is hip, cozy, intimate. Waitstaff is knowledgeable, efficient, friendly. It's tucked away down a cobbled alley in old town Ellicott City. My only suggestion to Chef Matthew is...update your menu online on a regular basis, and expand it to include your wonderful infused liquors.
Just an average place which seems to be over-hyped lately
If you like almost private dining in a public restaurant, try the Rumor Mill. If you enjoy one on one service from some of the most beautiful and friendly wait staff, try the Rumor Mill. If you go for a totally unique dining experience, with excellent food, drinks, and atmosphere, try the Rumor Mill. And if you don't like it - no, love it - then you went to the wrong restaurant. The only thing that approaches a negative is the limited parking. But it's in Ellicott City! And you really should walk around in Ellicott City anyway. So, even if you have to walk a little, you'll enjoy that, too! By the time we left, we felt like family - from the owners throughout the hostess and wait staff. And go on a special occasion. They will make it even more special!
We arrived early on a Friday evening to experience what many consider Rumor Mill's famous draw-their abundance of infused alcohol and signature cocktails. We started with the cucumber infused vodka martini and fig honey manhattan. Both of which were very good. Wanting to try one of the other various infused vodkas we asked our bartender Ivy to make us something both tart and refreshing. Her creation of a soursop grapefruit and soda was outstanding and I would recommend having the bartender recommend drinks befitting your specific tastes. After cocktails we were promptly seated in a quiet corner on the second floor. We began with tempura asparagus and brussel sprouts. Both of which were very flavorful. The brussel sprouts in particular we would order again. As this is a tapas style restaurant we decided to order 3 entrees (2 of which were regular items and 1 a special) as they all sounded so good. The crusted sea bass and short ribs, regular menu items, were both delicious and would recommend either. The special was lamb chops and was also melt in your mouth good. For desert we went with the creme brulee which was the sweet ending we wanted to end the meal with. Overall the atmosphere and friendly wait staff along with the fantastic cocktails and outstanding food made for an ejoyable evening. The only reason for not giving 5 stars is because the food seemed to come out in a disjointed manner. One app was delivered when the first was about finished. We recieved 2 of the entrees with the third arriving as we finished the first 2. One special touch that we liked was the chef brought the desert out personally. We would recommend The Rumor Mill to anyone reading this and plan to go back ourselves.
Keeps getting better and better. We had 7 plates for 4 people and all of us left full but not stuffed. We loved the carrot plate and find the Brussels sprouts a delightful surprise. Meat courses were all excellent: duck with cherries, Kobe sliders and beef short ribs. The fish plates (salmon and sea bass) were less to our liking. Excellent service from Angela who really knows her menu. We'll be back.
This is our second time at the Rumor Mill and every time the food has been utterly outstanding. For us, the grilled Caesar salad is a real gem. This time we also got to try the infused vodkas and they were like nothing we have ever tasted before. Incredible atmosphere, great food, lovely service. 10 out of 10, would recommend.
One of the best restaurants in along time that was excellent for the money. Everything we tried was great. The tapas were brought out with enough space in between to enjoy them. Will return and bring others.
