The Rotunda at Neiman Marcus - San Francisco Ratings and Reviews
Loved our booth and view, nice hostess. Waiter hurried us through told us kitchen was closed when we asked about dessert. I ordered a second drink and waiter hesitated because, again, thought bar closed. We were there at 4:30 pm. Good service should extend until last person leaves.
We go to the Rotunda for afternoon tea at the end of our Christmas shopping Saturday in San Francisco, which is the Saturday before Thanksgiving.
There are at least 8 (sometimes 12) of us female family members who come from all over California and Oregon and now also Fiji to start our Christmas season. The tradition was started in the cafe of City of Paris by my mother and friends and now 4 generations carry on the tradition.
We always toast our mothers/grandmothers/great grand mothers and great great grandmothers...with champagne!! and remember them with great stories and lots of laughs.
We were seated in a private alcove since we have hard of hearing family members. Very thoughtful of the staff and yet we were able to see the lovely room and glass ceiling.
It is a mini family reunion and joyous occasion and the Rotunda does a wonderful job of hosting us.
Wonderful creative menu with seasonal ingredients. Service was great. Would have been perfect except we were seated on the uppermost tier next to kitchen entrance with no other tables available to us. The beauty of the restaurant is to see out over the Rotunda which we could not. At least we could see the lovely glass ceiling and it was relatively quiet. Would definitely ask for other seating when i return.
Luv The Rotunda! Have eaten here many times for lunch while shopping on Union Square. Food is consistently great and fresh. My husband could not stop raving about the Lobster Club Sandwich he had. I had the Beet Salad with Burrata. Always look forward to their homemade Popovers with Strawberry Butter too. Especially enjoy dining here around the holidays since Neimans and Union Square look so festive.
Excellent!! Great place to dine in Union Square, the service is top notch and the food is very delicious and hearty. The ribeye steak is sizable to share for two, they start you off with some broth and baked roll with special butter. All salads and soups were top notch as was the lobster spring rolls. Hard to eat lunch here and not take a nap but must continue shopping....the Rotunda
Afternoon tea isn't as good as it used to be. The sandwiches were bland. The desserts were meh. We didn't even finish everything! The service was lacking as well. We asked for honey and was told that they don't have any. Really??? Then somehow, honey was found! The same thing happened to the table next to us with soup. They were supposedly out of soup. Then viola! Soup arrived. Not 10 minutes later, the other table next to us, who didn't order tea, were immediately served soup (different server). For $60 pp you except things to be on point. Last year it was wonderful. I don't know what happened...
This is one of my fav lunch spots. You can’t beat the ambiance. However, our Lunch took to long to come out. A number of tables that were seated after us had their food come out. The restaurant did offer us an apology and a free dessert because of this. Although I can’t get the time back, I appreciate it how they acknowledged and handled the matter.
After that we had to wait 30 minutes to get the check and had to ask two different servers. After our meal our server pretty much disappeared.
My brother and I had a lovely experience at The Rotunda for afternoon tea. We were celebrating his birthday before seeing the symphony. The view was absolutely spectacular and the ambiance allowed for privacy without feeling all alone. The view of Union Square is unlike I've seen! It was unfortunate there was heavy construction also going on.
The tea service itself was prompt and delicious. The sandwiches were clever odes to a classic tea service while being modern enough to keep things interesting. The scones were also good. The sweets were a little disappointing. Creatively they were fun, their execution left something to be desired. I would absolutely go back and hope to soon!
This is NOT the place for a business lunch. It is a place for people who have a lot of time on their hands to have a leisurely lunch. Our server was distracted and stressed, and everything took a long time. Total time: 2.5 hours.
My only regret is not approaching the manager mid-lunch to voice my displeasure, but I didn't want to leave my client sitting there while I was troubleshooting my lunch.
That aside, the food was quite delicious.
I was unhappy as we made a reservation for a certain time and our table was not ready at that time. We had to stand around and wait for a table. Other dinners were standing around too. It was inconvenient to stand and wait. I had to ask someone to take my coat. No one asked it I wanted my coat checked. The popovers were much to brown. They were over cooked. My chicken salad was good. My hot drink was served in a cup with no handle so if I tried to drink I would have burnt myself
I really do love The Rotunda. But the service was definitely off on our latest visit. They forgot our soup as an appetizer. We also ordered cocktails and they brought the entrees before the cocktails. Moreover, I ordered the Crab/shrimp Louie and ordered both the Louie dressing as well as their sherry vinaigrette on the side. What they brought, instead, was the vinaigrette and a side of olive oil.
I remember looking forward to Afternoon Tea service at the Rotunda. The quality of the food was great, the presentation was eye-exciting! This time around, I noticed that the quality and presentation has slipped. Gone from the 'look' of tea sandwiches, replaced by petite croissant with a deviled egg filling piped on top of it lazily, a mini hoagie bread roll sliced in the middle and filled with crab salad, crusted bread with unpeeled slices of cucumber on it. No more petite fours, instead, a selection of baked goods that is not exciting to look at or taste. A couple of the items for dessert were really dense, only a bit softer than the scones. I understand that everything evolves to keep up with the times, but this was a complete miss in my opinion. If it wasn't for the popovers (that have shrunk in size) or the lobster club sandwich offered at lunch, I don't think I would visit or recommend this place anymore. It's sad - this was my favorite tea room after the Compass Rose at the St. Francis closed down. :(
We visit the Rotinda once a year when we’re in San Francisco, so this lunch was a special event. We always look forward to enjoying the fabulous Tiffany style ceiling while we dine. We had a reservation but host Christopher quickly made us feel not so special with his dismissive attitude and the corner table he gave us. They clearly have their regulars and other guests are simply tolerated. Food was fine. Service was good but it was hard to overcome such a greeting. With so many wonderful things to do and welcoming places to visit in San Francisco, we’ll skip this one next time.
Food is amazing. Crab Louie Salad is seriously the best. They also give you this bread popover thing with berry butter that is so wonderful. Only criticism is our waitress took forever. But she did overhear we had a bday and brought out a cute cupcake which was very nice. Just was turned off by how long it took her to ask us questions.
Took my 3 kids (ages 3 yrs, 8 yrs and 9 yrs) on Sunday for an 11:15 reservation at the request of my 8 year old daughter. We were greeted immediately and seated very quickly right by the window. We enjoy the atmosphere and visual appeal of the Rotunda. My kids love the starters -- the consumme as well as the popovers and strawberry butter. Each lunch entree was also delicious and only my littlest had any leftovers. They had the sliders, the kids pasta, and the chicken tenders. I ordered the Lobster Sandwich. The service was outstanding -- every staff member was professional, pleasant, and especially kind and understanding of my children. Even for such a fancy place, I appreciate that I can go there to enjoy with the most important people in my life -- my kids! We will return again soon!
Our host recognized my party was for best friends gathering, and he pointed to my friend "my guess this is the best friend?", nice touch. He noted I requested the table with city view and fulfilled my request. The popover that served at the beginning of our tea was delicious, it was fluffy and buttery, very good with the strawberry butter cream spread. We both like the little crab and lobster salad sandwiches. It was a delightful afternoon tea with my best friend.
