The Rotunda at Neiman Marcus - San Francisco Ratings and Reviews
it's always a great to go to the Rotunda for a festive occasion with someone special and has become a regular Christmas tradition for us. It seems everybody else has the same as its very difficult to get a reservation around holidays, so plan ahead. Their popovers are such a special way to start and the rest of the meal is always good. it's the only way my wife can get me to the City for some shopping....
Our annual get together at The Rotunda never disappoints. My friend and I enjoy sitting by the window and watching the skaters on Union Square. The meal was delicious as always and our server was very attentive. Will definitely recommend to others and will go back again and again and again.
The Rotunda Restaurant on the 4th floor of Nieman Marcus is a circular gem with old style service and panache. Ladies who lunch will be happiest here where they are served martinis and bellinis promptly with a smile. And forget the calories, its a fun place for dungeness crab melt, club sandwiches, many salads and elaborate desserts. A classic and classy City spot that we visit once a year to view the 86 foot tall gorgeously decorated Christmas tree. Dress up, relax, have fun and be sure to make reservations.
Always elegant with a relaxed atmosphere. The staff wants you to enjoy your meal and the selections are varied. Perfect place to enjoy a holiday lunch and meet friends for a celebration. Perhaps because of the holiday crush the servers did not clear the dishes as often as they have in the past.
Another fabulous time eating, talking & enjoying my dear fiends on our annual "Holiday in the City" reunion. We always try to make our first stop "The Rotunda" so we can first enjoy the taste of the amazing popovers & strawberry butter! Everything is so delicious and the foodpresentation is worth taking note of!
This year our waiter was "the best ever" he was knowledgeable, professional, upbeat , smiling and so fun to share a laugh with, he made the experience even better and more festive!!!!
And of course the the other part of our experience is the visual experience. Everywhere your eyes go there is something so amazing to see! The view of The Union Square, is phenonemal. And the decor inside the Rotunda is a site worth seeing over and over again.
The Christmas tree, took our breath away......every decoration, every Christmas light, every window view a visual experience.
The Rotunda brings with it a feeling of " Comfort and Joy". Too beautiful to do justice with just my words & description.....
Thank you for this beautiful holiday gift to myself and my friends.
Beautiful restaurant, great views of Union Square, nice interior view. Wonderful for a nice luncheon, a break while shopping.
Popovers are terrific, well worth the visit if you love them.
Have come here for decades, always order the hamburger, which has been larger and juicy, but no more. Have watched the $22 burger get smaller and thinner to the point that really In-and-Out is far better.
Will still come back for the ambiance and popovers, but just have to give up on the burgers.
Order one, and you will find out.
The Rotunda at Neiman Marcus is a classic. Great food and a beautiful Christmas venue. This has been a tradition for us during the holiday season, sharing the delicious Lobster Club (it is huge), French fries, and a bottle of Gloria Ferrer sparkling wine. There was some delicious Consomme, compliments of the chef, and the Rotunda's delicious popovers. A wonderful meal and experience.
We have been going to Rotunda for YEARS, and I'm so sorry to say that the service has gone down hill. Our server, while pleasant, was very overwhelmed. Our drinks took 20 minutes to arrive, he didn't take our order for another 20, the table was never scraped clean, the menus were tattered and dirty. Just not the special, festive environment it used to be.
At Christmas, the Rotunda is beautiful and festive for a special lunch. It’s also very popular and busy. I suggest making the earliest possible reservation and then arriving early to get the best table and prompt service before the room becomes crowded and noisy. The price is high and people dress nicely. Ladies shopping in San Francisco make up most of the diners. The menu items are creative and delicious, and the wine list has many choices.
Disappointing. We have been coming to the Rotunda for several years to have a Christmas lunch. I was not impressed last year, but we came back. This was our last year. We waited about 15 minutes for our drinks, the food was mediocre, and overpriced. Next year, we're trying another venue. It is a shame, because the setting is so lovely, but they clearly are riding on that, not the quality of the food or the service.
The bartender was friendly and the drinks were expensive but very good. The hostess accommodated us with a great seat. We had an appetizer, salad and main course. The shrimp cocktail was very tasty and the flatbread was really good. My wife had the pappardelle with short rib. It was tasty but a little dry. A little sauce would’ve gone a long ways. I had rib eye steak. It too was a little thin and dry. All in all it was a pleasant experience.
Lunch at the Rotunda is an annual tradition for our family at Christmas time. We live 4 hours from the City, but would bring our daughters to go to Union Square, visit Santa at Macy's, and have lunch at Neiman Marcus. This year I continued the tradition with my 5 year old granddaughter. The staff was very kind to her and put us at a table by the tree and overlooking the ice rink. She was thrilled and loved every minute of it!! Excellent lunch, service, and ambiance. Of course, we will be back! Thank you Rotunda for another 5 star experience and making a little girl very happy!
Hostesses were excellent. They were apologetic that we couldn't be seated right away even with our reservation, but took care of us once we were seated. Our complimentary lobster bisque was amazing! Our party of three ordered tea service. The tea sandwiches looked inviting but were bland and tasteless. The scones were excellent however, as were the delicious desserts. We requested a table with a view of Union Square and even with the major construction going on, we still enjoyed the view of the festive holiday decorations across the street. Our waiter, Walter, was excellent! I look forward to returning.
The Rotunda is one of San Francisco's most beloved classic venues. It survived the 1906 earthquake and a demolition. The Rotunda is a wonderful place for lunch, great for tea, and a excellent place to celebrate - yes, with champagne!
My family and I have dined here countless times (and when it was City of Paris) - with groups, on separate occasions, etc. we come often. We always make it to The Rotunda while the christmas tree is around. This year we made it early. We made a reservation, came before our reservation time, checked in, and had to wait almost 30 minutes past it. We were a little disappointed but I was also expecting it as I have previously spent 5 years hosting at the busiest restaurant in San Francisco - it's a nightmare.
We requested a window seat which we got but honestly no one wants to sit next to a pole especially when they have a reservation! My guest was upset. We have been experiencing this restaurant for days like today to start off the holidays as well as special occasions like Mother’s Day, Birthdays and other celebrations.
Long-review-short we enjoyed our consomé, popovers, strawberry, butter lobster bisque soup and lobster sandwich with housemade chips. At the end of the meal I was successfully surprised when sorbet and a candle came. The HBD song was appropriately not sung! 2 lovely servers helped us out and they were definitely the two servers who have been around for years! Obviously we'll be coming back.
