The Rotunda at Neiman Marcus - San Francisco Ratings and Reviews
Every time we dined at The Rotunda, we knew for sure we shall return. Excellent dishes/entrees, courteous services, and of course, the popovers were delicious! We were seated by the window overlooking busy Union Square, which made our visit more enjoyable! ThankU!
This place is a classic SF institution. Best place for ladies (or boys) who lunch! It’s simply beautiful.
The bartenders are true professionals. Best gin and tonic ever! The crab and shrimp Louie salad was amazing.
The restrooms have been remodeled, which are nice - except for the fact that there are no hooks for hanging coats or hand bags. And, there are no handles inside the stalls, which makes getting out if then difficult (they swing inward).
We have not been to the original Neiman Marcus restaurant in Texas. We had heard about the very good popovers which start your meal there and in SF. Let us say that this is both the very best and by far most expensive lunch we have had in a department store any place in the world. Great bottle of Chateau Montelena Cabernet. Larger menu than expected. We liked everything we selected. We liked the crispness of the chocolate chip cookies but didn’t appreciate the addition of espresso powder to the recipe. Afternoon tea service looked inviting. Fine staff. A memorable late lunch.
Nick and team were great. They made us comfortable and took care of our every need throughout our meal. The food delicious...beet and burrata salad, lobster club sandwich, and pappardelle with braised short ribs. Complimentary cupcake in honor of our 12yr anniversary was the cherry on top of it all. We’ll definitely be back! Thanks Nick and the Rotunda team!
Exceptional dining experience with a fine selection of healthy options and hearty portions. When we requested to share the hot seafood salad, the chef split the portions in separate plates with ample portions for each of us. The complimentary chicken bouillon and the popovers were the best.
I have eaten at the Rotunda for many years, and it always has felt special. This visit, however, it didn't. From our waiter wearing a shirt that had ironing burn marks on the collar to a lack of gluten free bread options to the liquor prices being way above regular mark-up to the decreased portion sizes, the experience was disappointing. For what our lunch cost, I expect a certain level of service & food; the Rotunda disappointed and I'll be taking my lunch business to other places, like Spruce, instead.
I took two out of town guests there. We had a combination of lunch and the afternoon tea service. The crab and shrimp Louie salad and sandwiches from the lunch menu were excellent . The afternoon tea plate (finger sandwiches, scones, and sweets) was just OK. The quality, presentation, and quantity appeared not to be as good as before.
The service from our female server was great. I definitely gave her a "5" in rating.
The Gentleman (Host) was so busy fawning over a women who had reservations before us. She must have been someone with a lot of influence... He couldn’t be bothered with regular customers and he barely acknowledged us... It made us feel uncomfortable and ruined our experience.
I feel very sad because I loved coming to the Rotunda and having a wonder glass of wine, a crab Louie salad, and their famous popover after a fun day of shopping on the 2nd floor..,
I don’t think I’ll be going back there again...
We noticed the new menu. Sandwiches were great. Scones got a little small. the desserts were more "every day". We don't particularly like pettifores (sp), but it makes it seem more fancy and traditional with those on the menu. Service was superb today. The popovers are the BEST!
It’s a “ladies do lunch” old school style. Beautiful & iconic stained glass ceiling.
Not fan of the models coming by while I’m having my business meeting lunch with client. It’s awkward & odd. If I want a fashion show I’ll attend one. There dresses were see-through.
The food was disappointing for the prices $28 for sandwich & greasy fries.
Love the popovers & strawberry butter.
We ordered salmon filet entree $28 had horrible pea sauce that was like a heavy glue funk no flavor. Nasty! Also ordered the Prime Rib French Dip sandwich $28 - small portion disappointing.
They need some background music - missing ambience.
Food needs updates - small portions for the price. Outdated selections.
Loved everything about this experience except for the people working the front desk. Didn't have a reservation since it was a last-minute decision and were told that they didn't have a table for hours. Looked at OpenTable and booked a table 15 minutes later and were forced to wait until the exact time on the reservation, even though there were plenty of open tables (and many remained throughout our dining experience). Very odd. After that, everything was magical from the location, the expert waitstaff, and the quality of the food.
I booked this restaurant for afternoon tea based on the reviews. Having lived in London for 4 years, I have experience a number of afternoon teas. This afternoon tea was terrible. The bread was stale, crusts were left on the bread (a big no no for English afternoon teas), the cannoli and crab meat cone were both soggy, the scone was tiny and served with whipped cream...everything tasted like it was prepared in the morning and left uncovered until the afternoon. It was the most disappointing afternoon tea I have ever had, a B&B in England would do better afternoon tea than this. Don't waste your money
I have been to The Rotunda many times and this visit was HORRIBLE! The receptionist was rude, she took my reservation information and told us to stand aside. We did, and then she sat everyone before us, then looked at us and asked if we needed some help. I told her she had spoken to me 10 minutes ago and asked me to step aside, so I did. She was just plain rude, didn’t apologize , just looked at us blankly and turned to someone else handed them menus and told them to seat us.....
Ok rough start....... we sat down, ordered drinks and food and began to relax and enjoy our lunch. Our waiter was nice and brought our drinks and food. My friend ordered the lobster egg rolls with butter lettuce and I ordered the portobello mushroom, kale and butternut squash. Our food came and we dove in! My friend’s butter lettuce had 3 dead black flies in them and my butternut squash was soo greasy, it was disgusting! The kale had no flavor and the mushroom was ok. I have ordered this dish before and it was great! We alerted our waiter and he had the chef hand pick butter lettuce with no bugs for my friend. Yay! She was soo grossed out she barely ate her egg rolls. I definitely expect more from The Rotunda. We will be going elsewhere for awhile. Campton Place has great food and service. Neiman’s get it together!
I came here on a Monday for my 30th birthday with my husband. There were people but it was not crowded. I liked the ambiance and the food was good. It was a bit expensive for afternoon tea, but I loved the decor and lighting. It certainly is a special place to celebrate special occasions.
Afternoon tea was pleasant, and the staff were friendly, but our waiter was slow and lacked some of the finer customer service skills; he failed to anticipate our needs. Our food was delivered much later than that of surrounding diners who ordered after us. And we had to ask several times for hot water refills.
Fortunately the busboy was friendly and attentive, and this helped make up for the server’s shortcomings.
