The Rotunda at Neiman Marcus - San Francisco Ratings and Reviews
My mom and I have been going to the Rotunda for every birthday and special occasion since I was little (I’m 26 now). This time we went to celebrate a raise/promotion I received at work. Always yummy whether we go for lunch or tea and it’s always beautiful to look at!
This was the best way to spend Valentine's Day ever - we went for tea. The Rotunda was, as always, calm, elegant and refined. The tea service was really perfect - the sandwiches were delicious, the sweets very very good - with heart shaped shortbread cookies to celebrate the occasion. The service was gracious, attentive and smart. I cannot recommend this venue highly enough. The perfect place to go for tea, perfectly delicious !
Used to enjoy the afternoon tea service more. Don't know if It'S because we went on Valentine's day the menu is different. But it wasn't really worth it this time. The service wasn't very good either. We never got a refill on the tea and crumbs left all over esp from the back of the menu also. Decor is awesome per usual. My parents went with us and ordered from the lunch menu, which is much better and worth the value. I would still come back because I've had better tea service before and service so the potential hopefully is still there. I'd go back one more time to give that another try. Will update with review next time!
While the surroundings are gorgeous and the service top-rate, but the food was a major disappointment. Our hot entrees were served cold and were quite tasteless. The dessert, on the other hand, was sensational. My advice: have lunch elsewhere, then stop by for dessert or late afternoon tea.
The Rotunda, set in what was once the great glass dome of a bank, is one of the most beautiful dining rooms in the US. Circular and on the fourth floor of Neiman Marcus, one looks up to an ornate gold and frosted glass ceiling and down to the ground level of this elegant store. The food is good ( it’s at it glory at lunch) but it’s the lovely atmosphere that captivates. Excellent wine list and cocktails. My favorite US restaurant, many lovely memories are evoked here.
We arrived on time but still need to wait a little for them to clean up the table. It took awhile for server to come and someone to pass out water and bread with strawberry cream. We requested afternoon tea, no one offer to refill our water for tea. I found a piece of lint one of the creams that was served in the afternoon tea set. There was no utensil for us to grab the tiny little desserts or mini sandwiches. We used our hands the whole time.
I was hosting friends from Atlanta. This was the perfect place! The glass dome is spectacular & I was able to conjure history from the old City of Paris. The food was creative and very good. Service was attentive. No one pressed us to be done, important when hosting old friends. They loved it & that was a pleasure for me. See you soon again.
We went to the rotunda to enjoy "high tea". It was a little disappointing. Food was only fair, at a high price. We had pre requested gluten free tea sandwiches and were served some mini appetizers instead. Would not recommend this again. Menu was a bit " tired". Popovers still remain good, though.
My husband and I went here for afternoon tea. The presentation was beautiful and the food was delicious. Our server was extremely friendly and had really good suggestions in regards to the tea. There were two customers that had come in and were being disruptive and loud and I commend the staff on how they handled it discreetly as to not interrupt others' dining.
So the Rotunda used to be very pricey but worth it for the location, view, ambience, good service, and decent food. The prices have gone up since I was last there (which was within the last few months) - e.g. $30 for a toasted sandwich with a few greens on the side. It has officially tipped into "you must be joking" territory.
Service was generally very good but took a long time to bring bill and process credit cards at the end of the meal.
The only thing that disappointed me was the seating. The chairs were quite dirty. Also, because of the angle at which the tables were placed, there is minimal spacing between the back of a chair and the walking area. So customers and waiters who were walking behind my chair kept hitting it whilst walking. If the tables were placed parallel to the windows vis-a-vis perpendicular(like they are now), this problem can be reduced.
