The Root Restaurant & Bar
Once again a great experience. Both my kids, 10 & 12, loved the brunch. Excellent service with awesome food. Can't recommend The Root enough.
Our first ever visit was for Easter brunch. Creative menu with plenty of appealing options. Great cocktail menu. All of the specials sounded amazing so we ordered the special cocktails (strawberry bellini) and breakfast (prime rib benedict). They were out of this world. All of the food came out really quickly and was exceptional. Attentive server answered questions with confidence. We will definitely be back. Can't believe it took us so long to try The Root!
Always a great choice for a night out. Great food and fantastic drinks. Just an excellent restaurant.
The gnocchi was the best I have ever had, the rest of our meals was just ok.
I love onion soup and had high hopes for the soup here, based on reputation. Unfortunately, it was only lukewarm with a unique flavor that I did not find particularly satisfying.
I would go there again, but would not go out of my way to do so.
This is one of our favorite restaurants. Must have the brie and the steaks. The pototoes au gratin are spectacular. The servers are always great.
I did recommend Root before we even got to our car in the root parking lot. A car passing us in the parking lot asked our opinion. Our response was “great”.
The Root in White Lake held great promise for six years while we waited for the chance to try something more upscale between Pontiac and Hartland. Unfortunately the beer selection is marginal having few craft or draft choices. While Chris was trying hard to fill in for a new waitress’ yet unlearned tasks, we hoped the food would make up for our growing apprehension. Though my partners burger and fries were above average, my krispy salmon was rather small and over cooked. It was served with a coconut rice which was tasty. Unfortunately food selections are ala carte and at upscale pricing not on par with that of say the Brighton Bar and grill or Palate in Milford where one knows their money is completely well spent. We hope to come back again some day when the promise of the Roots allure is realized.
Had the tasting and it was excellent! Highly recommend the scallops. Our waitress explained all items of the menu pefectly. Also, had great suggestions of wine or drinks. Will be back again.
it was again a very nice evening with very tasty food
Food was very good but serving size could of been a bit larger. Drinks were outstanding.
Waiter was friendly and attentive but had a bit of B.O.
Best hamburger in Oakland County! It was the first night going solo for our server and he did a great job.
We love The Root and eat there frequently! This past Saturday, I felt our food was just ok. I'm not quite sure how a citrus vinaigrette and French onion soup can be spicy; but it was. I will know now in the future to tailor my ordering and ask if something is spicy. With that being said, our server was exceptional. Jessica was probably the best we've ever encountered.
The Root is always above the bar with its tasty food, we love the porkbelly appetizer. The mixologist has some really flavorful drinks its a great place.
Wonderful food, service and atmosphere! Our server was excellent and very friendly! Making a reservation on Open Table was so easy and convenient too!
Great food and excellent service. Highly recommend it.
We had a party of 8 and they seated us within 15 min of our reservation. All the drinks and food were great. The waiter did a great job of handling a larger party
Busy saturday night; service was a bit bogged down. menu is compact compared to some other restaurants; 6 main entrees to choose from but also a small plate menu and apps. Plates arrived very hot leading us to think they sat under the heat lamps waiting for us longer than they should have. A steak order and a burger were both done more than requested, but eaten so not to have to get reordered. Overall, still a good place to go for a dinner though.
Met some friends at The Root for dinner. Hadn’t been here in a while and was unsure re change of ownership but as always they did not disappoint! Everything was amazing!!
The food was outstanding, our server was very pleasant and attentive. Looking forward to our next visit there.
Second time to The Root, and I can honestly say that it was not as good as the first time. Sloppy Joe was dry, brussel sprouts were VERY hot (peppery) and spaetzle was edible but over cooked. We live quite a distance for this establishment, so I don't see a reason to return. Service was fine, atmosphere was nice and parking is easy.
Great menu of locally sourced food
We ordered two starters, the crabcakes and the brie. The crabcakes were awesome, and the brie just fair. Two of us had the New York steak dinner, and one the pork chop. All were perfectly prepared and delicious. This was our second visit and we would recommend and would return. Service was attentive too.
Excellent experience. We went for a friend’s birthday. The menu was fresh, the service excellent. We were provided with a choice of desserts for our friend and it was all outstanding!
Chris K. made our evening Perfect! We were celebrating my Sister's Birthday and our Mom's 89th Birthday! From the delicious menu and the great wine list to our waiter who was EXCELLENT, everything was great! A great time was had by all! Thank you Chris!
Brunch was so flavorful and delicious! The price was reasonable for the quality of the food.
Food was amazing as always. Service was subpar this time however. Also, they tried to give us the worst table in the house - small, near the kitchen doors, and with a cold draft - and said sorry we are filling up. There were obviously other tables. Isn't that why you get a reservation when you have a special occasion, so you don't get an uncomfortable spot??
Never can go wrong at the Root
My husband and I had a wonderful dinner. We enjoyed the atmosphere, very friendly and knowledgeable staff, and excellent food and drinks. This is sure to become one of our favorite places.
This use to be our go to date spot. New ownership and poor quality food and portions for the $$$ have made this restaurant just okay. We probably won’t be back
The hostess was inexperienced and had us waiting 30 minutes after our reservation, while there were many open tables. The food was a huge disappointment, it had been one of our favorites but clearly the chef has changed. The pasta was over cooked, and stuck together in clumps. Very average
Other than the minor wait for our table on Valentine's Day with a reservation, everything was impeccable.... great food, friendly service & warm ambiance. Thank you for a very enjoyable, pleasant Valentine's Day dinner with my teenage sons!😊 We will certainly recommend!👍
We went to the Root for Valentine's Day. The service was excellent. My lobster risotto was very good - excellent flavors and the lobster was not overcooked, however, at $36 for the meal it was very small. My husband had the Brick Chicken. The flavors were excellent, but the chicken was overcooked and dry. He also requested a different side and was charged an up-charge of $2. The waiter did not mention an up-charge and it was just potatoes instead of polenta. Considering what they charge for dinners, this seemed a bit petty.
Previous dining experiences were more favorable than our last visit on 2/14/2019.
Not a fan of employees sporting a full bushy beard while preparing & cooking foods, least of all the main chef. Beard nets may not be required by law but it just looks plain unsanitary. The other kitchen workers had their hair under bandana handbands or baseball caps.
Our waiter questioned why I ordered a side salad because my lobster risotto was of significant size as it came in a "big bowl". It was not.
Side salad was a plate of arugula lettuce with 3 radish slices on top with scant dressing. Not a very wow factor. Did they run out of other raw veggies that could have been added? Very plain.
When we asked our waiter what temperature is considered medium rare (for beef tenderloin) cooked at (my husband did not want anything too rare), his reply was 125-140 depending on the size of the tenderloin. (???) Obviously he did not know what he was talking about. Main entrees were excellent.
I had a great experience here about 5 years ago the food was excellent. I dine here for Valentine's day and my husband and I were seated in between two other couples. I believe they call that New York style seating, I would have loved if the hostess had asked if we had a seating preference. So that was a buzz kill for an intimate atmosphere. I ordered steak and potatoes. The steak was charbroiled and bland, my baked potato was hard. I can say that the drinks were good. For the same amount of money you can go to Joe Muer and have a great dining experience.
Excellent as always! Our waitress Karen was great! Valentine’s dinner was delicious.
Our Valentine's Day dinner was lovely. We had a table we liked, our favorite waitress (Katie) and the food was delicious. Several suggestions and recommendations were simply perfect. Thank you to all involved.
Great Food and Staff in a Great Restaurant. What more do you need to know? Add a Great Crowd dining there!
Our experience at the root was great. The service was fantastic and the food was very good as well.
The entire night was excellent and we will be back.
