The Roof Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
I enjoyed every single food item I tried. Oddly the bread pudding with caramel sauce was my favorite item of the evening but I love caramel. Atmosphere was amazing, the view was amazing, the food was incredible, and the staff took care of my requests for roses and a view. Would highly recommend to any of my friends.
Be prepared for a religion based evening as it is located in the Joseph Smith memorial building. Few conversations overheard from patrons on religious stories but I was fully aware prior to booking.
This place is a complete and utter rip-off! I took my wife here for our 10 year wedding anniversary thinking it was a classy place and fine dining. I knew it was buffet style, but I figured that it must be a very high quality buffet. Boy was I wrong! They charged $49.50 a person, for food that was the same quality that you would find at a Golden Coral type place. I am not exaggerating here. Mashed potatoes were incredibly oily and thin with way to much garlic. It was not palatable whatsoever. One of the meat dishes was completely raw inside. The deserts might have been purchased from the Wal-Mart bakery clearance section. I really do not understand how this place has so many good reviews. Believe me when I tell you that if you are expecting a fine dining experience with food that is at the $50 a plate price point, you will be as disappointed as we were. The Roof is nothing but a cheap low quality resort buffet masquerading as a fine dining establishment. No way in hell any real "chef" would put food out like this and charge that much. I will never go back and I will steer all of my friends away! DO NOT GO HERE! You are warned.
The food was ok. The fish was lukewarm, the prime rib was ok and most of the deserts tasted like they were store bought.
I lived in Vegas for 10 years and maybe my expectations are higher but I expected better for $50 per person. A Brazilian steakhouse seems more of a value after eating here.
I went to The Roof Restaurant the day before Christmas Eve. It has an absolutely amazing view over the Christmas lights, that combined with the live piano music creates a very romantic atmosphere. The food there was well prepared and cooked to perfection. If you have a special day prepared for a special someone or a family member there is no better way to top it off.
The Roof is a unique experience within Utah. The Roof is the finest buffet style meal you can get anywhere in the state. Nobody else does fine buffet dining like The Roof. There is a stunning view of the Capital, SLC Temple, and during the holidays you can see the lights of temple square. We go to The Roof for all our elegant dates.
Our reservation was for 7:00 p.m. just before the Christmas Concert that we had tickets for. We arrived 15 minutes early and was told it would be about 10 minutes. We were to leave around 7:30-7:45 so that we would be on time for the concert. We were not even seated at our table until 7:30. We missed our concert! Not pleased with the attitude of the staff... "Nothing we can do"!
Did receive a gift card, but may not be back!
We go every year at Christmas time with my Parents to The Roof and sadly this year was HORRIBLE! We have enjoyed this tradition for years but this time we waited 25 minutes past our reservation time to be seated and this time of year they only give you 90 to enjoy the dinning experience....So we felt rushed when we lost 25 minutes waiting for our table. With that we had horrible service! We never got refills on water or beverages, we never received a 2nd roll after asking twice. And lastly they lines of the food itself have never been so long! We felt for the hefty price tag the service was horrible, lines and crowds so long you could not get the food you wanted and we only had 60 of our 90 minute time to enjoy our visit. My husband was not happy to pay the $220 bill for 4 and feel like he needed to stop and eat on the way home. He never wants to return. You pay a lot of money for the evening and to get bad service and hardly any food does not make up for the AMAZING scenery. That is the only thing it has going for it at this point.
Was a bit disappointed this time. The price ended up being $10 more a person for “holiday”. When reservations were made it did not mention a holiday price. Very little for vegetarians. Small salad, mashed potatoes and roll. A bit of cheese and small dessert not worth $50. Friends soup and prime rib were lukewarm. Lines at buffet were long and crowded. We didn’t have the experience we were hoping for. Service however was excellent.
So disappointed in this restearaunt for the money we spent which was $350 the staff was rude and one waitress even rolled her eyes at our 7year old daughter when she wished her a merry Christmas and thanked her for helping her. Absolutely saddened by their behavior. Won't be go In back, this has been a tradition for a long time but service people have really home down hill. Extremely sad to end a tradition based on that. Our family spent over $700 total for sub par service.
It was my daughter-in-laws birthday. She has a severe peanut allergy. I noted on my reservation about the allergy. I then talked to the restaurant they assured me there were no peanuts. I had been there before and hadn’t seen any. So then called a second time to double check and was assured that there weren’t any. I requested a menu but nothing regarding any nut was listed.
I was assured that our waitress and the restaurant had been made aware. They had not been made aware.
Well not only did they have nuts, they had a bowl of mixed nuts on both ends of the buffet and peanut bars on the desert table. Since the kitchen is small, there was no possible way of not having cross contamination. She didn’t get to eat for her birthday. Disappointed. So FYI there are high allergens and high possibility for cross contamination for: Shell fish and all nuts.
I love the ambiance at the restaurant, however, when I am paying $50 per plate I hate feeling like I’m at Golden Corral while waiting in a crowded line. I am sad at my last visit as I have fond memories of the the Roof, but it felt like an overpriced cruise buffet I would suggest a different buffet layout as far as the movement of people as it feels cheep. Also the food quality needs work.
