I love the ambiance of the Roof, great buffet selection, service was great for the gluten free member of the party. I love the live piano. It is definitely expensive but such a fun experience.
We had s wonderful dinner experience. Amazing service, delicious food, incredible view. So enjoyed it! We’ll be back for sure!
Had a reservation for Valentine’s Day for 9:30pm. There was 2 open tables by the window but for some strange reason we were sat on a huge table (only 2 of us) and right next to the walkway with people leaving the restaurant. The open table for 2 and 4 people was left empty the whole night so I have no idea why we were sat on the worst table in the restaurant... food was good when it was there, we went up and many times food items weren’t there, we understand it was a busy Valentine’s Day but surely this should have been prepared and the restaurant isn’t doing this for the first time... service was ok, friendly server but many times had to call another person for attention, eg. If they take a plate away with a knife and fork on it, surely at a high end restaurant we shouldn’t have to flag another server down to replenish our cutlery every time we went to get a new plate? Also we saw everybody leaving with roses but we have no idea where they came from. Definitely won’t be going back there in a hurry and especially not on a $50 a head Valentine’s Day.
Beautiful views of the Temple. Food was excellent for a buffet. Deserts were especially delicious. A must do if you are in Salt Lake. Downtown is beautiful. Would visit again.
This is an excellent upscale restaurant. My absolute favorite! The food and service is outstanding. The view is unbelievable.
It seems like the price is higher and the quality of the food lower everytime I go.
It was good! We went at 9pm. The food was good, but some of the side dishes were cold. Also, we were unaware that it was a dry establishment. they had great non-alcoholic drinks instead, but a heads up would have been nice.
The view, ambience and service are all wonderful at The Roof; so the reason we gave an overall 4 stars pertains totally to those factors. Although the desserts are fantastic and offer a great variety, the entrees are really poor quality for such a nice place. My wife and I eat out many of our meals and have done so for years nationwide at many fine restaurants. The quality of food at The Roof just doesn't measure up to the atmosphere and quality of the fine, enthusiastic young servers that work there. To be specific, pasta should be al dente, yet was way overcooked; steak was fatty and uninteresting, fish was cafeteria quality. I will say that the apple cider vinegarette salad dressing was a standout, as well as was the cocktail sauce for the boiled shrimp appetizer.
The food is good, but I wouldn't go just for the food. At $42 dollars per person for dinner, you can probably find good food for cheaper. I would recommend The Roof for special events, such as birthdays, weddings, etc... The view of the temple is nice. I also enjoyed the relaxing piano music in the background. I reserved the time for 7:30, but they didn't get me to my table till 7:40. So get there early, but just be prepared for a wait.
The ambiance was perfect. Low noise level so you can hear each other without shouting, and the views are incredible. But for the price you pay, the value just isn't there. The food was mediocre at best, the service although not horrible, was amateurish. They also are in the Mormon church building, and don't serve alcoholic beverages. I had no idea, not being a native to this area. My guests were disappointed. We left early so that they could enjoy an after dinner drink. None of us are partying binge drinkers or anything, but we wanted an excellent bottle of wine with our meal and couldn't get any. So, buyer beware, before you book a table here!
Great service, delicious high quality food, great atmosphere and a wonderful view of the Salt Lake Temple. A bit pricey but you definitely get what you pay for.
I wish we could’ve sat in the seats next to the window. But our seating was fun either way . Love our waiter, very nice.
I really enjoyed the view, the food, and waitress. Everyone was really nice for our anniversary and made it special.
Incredible food, great service, and we really liked the live piano music!
We really enjoyed our experience at The Roof. The service was outstanding and we really enjoyed all of the tasty food! Some of my favorites were the steak and the chowder soup that they served. I loved the romantic piano music in the background and the view of the temple—all led to a really enjoyable atmosphere. The only thing that I was sad about was that I personally don’t feel like I ate $50 worth of food—maybe half that! So, know that it’s a pricey entrance, but you will definitely have a wonderful experience.
the setting is perfect. loved our table by the window. our waitress was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. The polenta pork with rosemary sauce is one of the best things we've ever eaten. The prime rib was roasted to perfection. the salad/soup selections were fresh and delicious, and the creme brulee was superb. Make no mistake, this is not the same size and scope as a Las Vegas buffet, and the multiple ethnic food choices in vegas are missing, but there are many choices and the quality was top notch. If you're looking for excellent beef, pork, fish, and chicken dishes, with many side dishes, you'll love the Roof. The live piano music was unexpected and just right. Loved everything about it.
We loved the food, the atmosphere and the view. Everything was elegantly done. The servers were helpful and kind, very quick to clear plates, replace silverware, and answer questions.
Amazing service and some of the best food I've ever had. Definitely worth the price for a special occasion or just the experience.
Great place to take my wife for her birthday. The staff are amazing and you can't beat the view!! Nice romantic restaurant.
Great for special occasions as you won't find another setting like it. That being said, it's spendy, so definitely for special occasions, which is their specialty.
Before we went there, we knew it's on the expensive side. Service from the waitress was great but their salmon was very hard and stale. Moreover, they have a server for meats and salmon and he puts a very small piece of salmon in your plate. There was not much variety of chicken and food is more on bland side. If you're expecting a grand buffet for $42 per person, find some other place. You're mostly paying for the beautiful views.
Amazing view of downtown and temple square. The food was plentiful and decisions on what to eat were hard to make. Everything was fresh and delicious. The desserts were plentiful and the carrot cake was the best. Going to make this a more frequent stop on our dining out list.
I was not impressed with the food or the service. It is a nice view but for such an expensive buffet meal, I expected much better.
Our waitress was really friendly when it was time to pay but otherwise avoided taking to us.
I wasn't impressed with the prime rib or Asian food. The salad bar was okay, there were a lot of cakes, but the mashed potatoes is really the only thing we really enjoyed.
Hubby and I loved the Roof. Food, ambiance, front desk, the view, drinks. Everything. We will definitely go back there.
Janick was an amazing server we loved every minute of it thank you!!!
The food was okay. We had better options in the past. Not very many options this last time we went. We felt like we wasted our money because we were still hungry when we left. I think for the price, you need to have more variety of the food. Especially for vegetarians. Other than that, the sweets were great. & they did a great job accommodating us on our anniversary.
Great place to eat, fabulous food, fun friendly service!
Food and atmosphere was fantastic. The only downside was the restaurant decor. I had a broken chair, so they switched it out and it, too was broken. The decor hasn’t changed in at least 15 years. Overall a wonderful experience, but drastically in need of new decor.
The atmosphere was phenomenal. The pianist spent the evening playing beautiful, romantic pieces. The food was absolutely delicious in every way. The service was exceptional. Each person treated you like the only person in the restaurant and were very kind and warm. My husband said this should be our new tradition for our anniversary because we loved every bit of it.
I loved the view. The food was outstanding and service was amazing. It was a great way to dine.
The food was good, the view was spectacular. They do not service alcohol here though.
The atmosphere is unsure pass. The food is excellent, but what you are really paying for the view. The service is excellent. It is a wonderful place to celebrate a special occasion.
Excellent place for a date
The food is usually fantastic as was the case at the beginning of my last visit. However, the last prime rib they had out was very over cooked and lacked almost entirely seasoning and flavor. I was very surprised at this lack of attention to detail as I have always been extremely impressed. Would still recommend, just surprised at this one hiccup.
The staff was great and the food was amazing. I loved the live pianist and its hard to beat that view! The steak and the desert bar were my favorite!
Very expensive for a dinner experience. Compared to Ruth Chris or Fleming it is a questionable choice. You onlye however have the view. Other than that the food is marginal. Great service!
Our family has a wonderful dinner after seeing the lights at Temple Square. The food was delicious, the views were unparalleled, and the ambience from the live piano music was just perfect. This is a special occasion treat for our adult kids and we look forward to it every year.
Talon was our waiter. Much better service that you could expect from a buffet!
Food, live piano music, view all marvelous.
Visited for New Years expecting fancy dining with good drinks. Should have researched better as the place does not sell alcohol, but I was still in for the fine dining. The buffee was a mixed bag. Good starters with some pretty boring meats (except the chicken). Soup was overcooked, which I felt was a common trait among the foods. Probably because it had been standing there for a while. Deserts was the real disappointment. Chocolate cakes were good, the rest either made badly or just boring. Found a hair in some chocolate cake, so that was a bonus.
We have always had an amazing experience at The Roof. The food is high quality and worth the price, especially for all-you-can-eat. The views are breathtaking! Especially around the holidays with Temple Square lit up with Christmas lights. You feel like you're dining on top of the world. Very much an experience you remember! We have been for several anniversary dinners. Will definitely come back for many to come!
