The Rogue Gentleman is a real gem. I was just visiting Richmond for a business meeting and wanted a nice dinner. I found it on Open Table and found an amazing gem. I’m a bit afraid to describe my experience because if I ever go back to Richmond, I might not be able to get a reservation here unless they expand a lot.
This is a small place, maybe 8 tables, a bar and a tiny kitchen. They have an extensive and changing cocktail menu and the bar tenders take it seriously. They are excellent craftsmen. I sat at the bar for dinner because I was alone. I ended up ordering the chef’s menu, with wine pairings because there were too many great looking choises on the menu. This was available in however many courses I wanted with a minimum of 3. I opted for 4. I won’t take the time to describe each dish. I will just say that it was one of the best meals I’ve ever enjoyed...small plates that were amazing. I will post a photo of my first course.
My waiter was very knowledgeable and was very willing to engage in more than just his description of the dish and wine. I love to cook myself and have a decent knowledge of wines, so this exchange was fun.
I live in San Diego and haven’t been to Richmond in 45 years, so I’m not sure I will ever get back. But if I ever do, I will definitely come back. The whole experience was amazing. Highly recommended.
