The waiters were polite but inexperience. I have to ask for water multiple times as well as a steak knife. They should pay attention to those details. The steak had no flavor and very difficult to chew= a very cheap cut of meat). The mac and cheese had the texture of fast food and the mash potato taste like box mash potatoes. The ratatouille texture and flavor were off. The chicken wings were very crispy, tasty and of generous size. It is difficult to mess up chicken wings. Definitively, not a place I will recommend for dinner, maybe for chicken wings. I didn{t even took the leftover with me.

The food was very good and everything else was good. We were spoiled, the last time here was in the late spring or early fall and we sat on the porch and ate. It was our anniversary and it was very nice.

The waitress was quiet, but friendly. The food was delicious. We had drinks at the bar before our reservation and the bartender was great. Unfortunately, the hostess was miserable! She was surly and definitely unwelcoming. She was the hostess on duty for breakfast as well and she never once made eye contact or smiled. What a shame because everyone else was friendly and helpful.

We had 2 dinners in River Room wile vacationing in Poconos.
The restaurant is a part of Shawnee Golf Resort so as such one can expect prices to be a bit on a high side; however they are not overly expensive.
the dinner entrees come with 2 sides and you can order an additional one for about $4.00 - doable.
Nice ciabatta-style rolls and butter start you off and there is a nice list of wines and the beer from their own brewery.
1st time we split a caprese appetizer, then moved on to salads (chosen as 1 of 2 sides as per above). The wife opted for Salmon with Mac & Cheese while I went with Shrimp scampi pasta w\garlic bread. We split a chocolate cake for dessert.

2nd dinner we skipped appetizer, still had salads, I went with NY strip w\Garlic Mashed potatoes and the wife choise the Scampi I had previously. Again we split the chocolate cake for dessert.

Drinks of choice were the Brewery Pilsner - light & fruity.

The server Jose was exceptional and very attentive.

Absolutely will consider coming back if ever in the area.

Was somewhat apprehensive as to what we would find, after having read a number of previous reviews. I was pleasantly surprised to find that our food was tasty and that service was reasonably good. My husband had the grilled salmon and, like a previous reviewer, declared it delicious. My hamburger was done just right and was juicy and tasty. A reasonably tasty dinner, although not a memorable one. Not a bad place for dinner if in the area [such as at the nearby Wyndham Shawnee Village resort].

The wait staff at dinner and breakfast made me feel so at home. Their service was excellent. I would go back more for the service than the food.

Awful awful awful. Wish I could rate a 0. Took 20 mins to get a drink after getting looked at in a strange way about our reservation. Got no straws after asking twice and proceeding to the bar and asking myself. Good took about 40 minutes and came out burnt and dry. Didn't even touch it. Awful service. Rude. Lighting is way too bright for any type of ambience. Not romantic. Not even casual. Feels like you're a sitting in a truck stop. Stay away

Place was empty. They had 3 different types of music playing at once. The reception underneath the piano in the lobby and the music for the restaurant. Food was ok.

Food was pretty disappointing. We expected better. We did not get back there except for breakfast one morning and it was pretty good. The servers there are very friendly and attentive - they deserve to have better food on the menu!

The noise was terrible. It was our 50th anniversary and seated in our area was a loud, drunk group of golfers. We should have been seated elsewhere.

Service was terrible ON MOTHERS DAY! Do not go here for a special occasion, you will be disappointed. Wait staff watched my family standing waiting to be seated for nearly 10 minutes and not one came over to seat us (and it wasn't busy). I approached a server for help and was rudely shown to a table right next to the door (and I made a reservation which no one seemed to understand). It's clear why places like Kalahari thrive (where we went instead). We were treated royally there, and Kalahari's Mother's Day brunch is AMAZING.

We tried this place because it was located in the Inn we were staying at. It was advertised as fine dining but was anything but - it was tasty, basic food, served in half-hearted fashion. Nothing to complain about, but nothing we'd return for.

We ate breakfast and dinner at this restaurant and both times we had to wait an obnoxious amount of time for basically everything. They also got our order wrong at dinner, which they comped on our bill.

Apparently the River Room does not honor open table reservations. They were very booked the night my family and I ate there. We were told by a waitress that the open table reservations double booked the restaurant. The hostess was very overwhelmed. A waitress announced that any open table reservations could not be honored. Eventually it was all sorted out. The food took awhile but our waitress gave my kids free drinks and comped out dessert. I left feeling full and satisfied but was very disappointed by my initial greeting to the restaurant.

Our reservation was for 2 at 6pm, we were seated promptly at a bare table(other tables had linens). The host was warm & gracious. The balance of the experience could best be described as dismal. Our waitress, who failed to introduce herself or greet us (this was Thanksgiving dinner !!!) was inattentive. We shared an entree salad as an appetizer. The salad base was unstemmed, limp, room temperature spinach leaves. For our main course we ordered the self-described "Thanksgiving Feast" It was delivered to the table on a platter with no serving implements provided. We had to flag down passing staff to obtain a bread basket, additional gravy, cranberry sauce, beverage refills etc. The food was mostly abysmal. The only things properly prepared were the 2 vegetables. The haricots vert were the desired fork tender and the mashed carrot and parsnips combination was quite tasty. The ham was the texture of shoe leather. The cold mashed potatoes were so dried out they had to be broken into chunks to eat. The turkey, as initially served, consisted of random bits that appeared to be torn off the carcass. I requested actual slices of white meat and eventually received some. The dressing' s sole taste was salinity. The cranberry, which we succeeded in obtaining after the meal, was tasty. The bread basket, when it finally arrived, had only stale slices of cranberry bread. The staff seemed noisily preoccupied with breaking down a large buffet in an adjoining room which had open doors. They were constantly rolling tables and shifting stacks of chairs between the 2 venues. Dessert was limited to 3 choices ( none of which was pumpkin pie !). I had a piece of adequate carrot cake. My husband fared better with his choice of chocolate cake and coffee, both of which he declared "good" We each had a slightly over-priced glass of proseco and a glass of soda which was woefully uncarbonated. All in all, a very memorable Thanksgiving dinner, but for all the wrong reasons.

The River Room is in the historic Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort in the heart of the Poconos. The food was excellent. We were there at the beginning of the off season so we were the only people the restaurant on a Monday evening. I believe the wait person was new and relatively inexperienced but still pleasant and tried their best. The room was pleasant enough however the lighting was exceptionally bright which detracted from the ambiance of the room. Overall, we enjoyed our experience at the River Room and will definitely return.

This place sounded great but turned out to be very disappointing. The food was mediocre at best, and I was particularly disappointed in the beer as there is an on-site brewery. Again the best I can say about the beer is it was mediocre. The bright spot is that the staff was very friendly and attentive, particularly the hostess.

The River Room at Shawnee Inn is a great place to dine. The food is very good. A lot of choices on the menu. The Inn is very historic and has a lot of history. I grew up in the Shawnee area along with my ancestors. It has remained a place to visit in the Pocono's. When you visit the inn, it's like stepping back in time. It has remained the same for many years. That's what is so special about this place. You have the beautiful Delaware River right near it. Very quiet. Great for families or a romantic getaway. Brings back a lot of memories walking around the place. Recommend it very highly.

I would never recommend this restaurant. I found it on open table and with very limited options in the area we decided to check it out. The hotel smells like mold upon entering. The restaurant is not air conditioned and it was an extremely hot summer day. The bartender tried to accommodate us, but you could see the stress and dissatisfaction of all the employees. The food was horrible. My spouse had an overdone, dry burger while my sandwich looked like it had been deep fried and not grilled. Not to mention we waited 45 minutes for lunch in an empty restaurant. To top it all off, it's completely over priced.

The dining room is directly next to the main wedding ballroom, so if there is a wedding happening all you will hear is the wedding party and DJ. It is not a gastropub or fine dining atmosphere. Food was not great and dishes had conflicting flavor profiles. Overall it feels like a 1980s airport Hilton restaurant.

The food and service were outstanding, we really enjoyed the meal. Definitely in need of some updates, was surprised to only see a couple of other diners on a weekend evening. The dining space is also next to their banquet hall so it was pretty loud due to a wedding reception. Overall, we enjoyed the meal and had a nice view of the golf course and surrounding area, it was really beautiful.

Food was terrible, service was slow and rather unfriendly even though almost no one was in restaurant. Obnoxious family with screaming kids playing on iPad while mother was repeatedly smacking them to "shut up" next to us...Oh, and they call it a "gastropub" there is nothing pub-like about this place other than they have a few beers on tap. Would never go back there again.

We were very disappointed. This is a very old inn, our room was very small. The dining was not great. Golf might have been good, but the young man getting out clubs etc. had not been trained on how to present clean rental clubs, there were no towels on a rainy day. Breakfast was ok.
