The River Cafe - Puerto Vallarta Ratings and Reviews
We've eaten at River Cafe several times over the years and it always warranted a 5 star rating. Sadly, this time the food did not meet its standard. One of our party ordered a seafood platter he said was sorely disappointing. Another said the food was decent but not stellar as it has been before. My pasta was warm, not hot, and appeared to have sat under the heat lamps too long. Yes, we will go back...could have just been an off night.
We just had desserts. We had 3, cheesecake, creme brulee, and fried ice cream. The ice cream was great and really enjoyed. The other two seemed really dry or over cooked. They weren't very good. The presentation was good. We were bummed not to do the flambe for the kids, but it made since that we wouldn't see the flames in the day. We should have tried the flan, it was probably way better than the cheesecake.
The services was fantastic though. Everyone was very welcoming and friendly and made our kids feel welcomed. The harpists in the lobby was fantastic. We loved sitting next to the river. Such a cool environment.
The ambiance was very lovely, right by the river and the seating was on several levels giving a view of the river at most of the tables. Our table was out farther and more scenic. The food was good. The French toast was delicious, just as my husband described it more of a child’s portion.
We met "new" friends on vacation. They were from Indy. We had 2 great dinners with them. We sat on veranda over the river. We nice but very warm. Good, service and atmosphere was great. That was our 2nd visit to the River Cafe on this trip. We hope to return soon.
Interesting spot on the river in Old Town Puerto Vallarta. No air conditioning. Open air restaurant. Like most restaurants in Puerto Vallarta. Not perfect on a hot, humid evening. The food was OK. Suffered in comparison to a great restaurant the prior evening.
We were visiting PV w/ my family. I reserved this place on line. Days prior to our reservation I had some questions about the restaurant which I emailed them and someone got back to me and answered all my questions.
Our table was on the terrace right by the River. This is such a cute place. We went here for lunch. We all fell in love with the place, food, drinks and the ambience. Our servers were really sweet, professional with awesome service. They had 2 for one drinks for happy hour. I had their fish tacos ( very tasty), my mom ordered the seafood pasta which was surprisingly very fresh and amazing taste. Others ordered the Mahi Mahi and Chillie dish ( very delicious and flavorful). I appreciated that they had kids menu for our toddler.
We wished we could have come back another time and try this place again. I would highly highly recommend this place. It will be an unforgettable experience. You will not regret it. Its a must if you are in PV.
Great spot. Decor a bit tired but service was amazing and the evening was particularly good as we had a table set for 8 in the outdoor gazebo. Mariachi band latter part of the evening. Food was very good and a good value for the money. Great variety on the menu.
River Café almost never fails to provide a lovely dining experience. The food is excellent and the service is top notch. This is one of our frequent go-to spots for lunch and we also recommend it to out of town visitors. The live music at night and on Sundays is a plus.
A bit disappointed. Last time had dined here remember very pleasant music - gal playing violin walking around restaurant = really was nice ambiance - This time duo up front playing rock - not so enjoyable for dining.
The restaurant has such a nice setting and decor, but, I find quality of food inconsistent.
Had a great Tuna Ceviche for appetizer. My salmon was disappointing more like baked then grilled - sauce nondescript .My husband enjoyed his Lasagna .
I travel to Puerto Vallarta every year and always make sure that I go to River Cafe ! This was my 20 th year traveling there and River Cafe is always a special night.
Beautiful restaurant on the river in the Romantic Zone. Everyone is so awesome there ! Food is amazing! Lobster to die for the best in Puerto Vallarta! Exceptional dessert selections and cocktails!
We went to the River Cafe for brunch a couple of weeks ago.
Brunch was 195 pesos/person. This time, two weeks later
it had gone up to 230 pesos/person. Two years ago it was 160 pesos/person.
This is an alarming increase in price. Also, the quality of the
dessert buffet has declined. No more little chocolate pastries.
Just Jello and cream! Ugh! Disappointed!
River Cafe has a Sunday Brunch and it is a wide variety of excellent Mexican dishes, made-to-order omelets, fruit, more than you can possibly consume. It is a tremendous value, in a refined setting on the Cuale River. This was our third Sunday Brunch there in the five weeks we have been in Puerto Vallarta. Highly recommended!
