Wonderful food and service. Quiet nice setting.
Awful seafood that was chewy and tasteless. The mussels here were inedible and the lobster was disgusting. The band and the wine were good, however. I wish we hadn’t eaten dinner there, maybe if we’d just had drinks I wouldn’t be so bitterly disappointed by my last meal in pvr.
Service was efficient but moderately slow and impersonal. Food was good. Table was in pathway from kitchen to a number of other tables, leaving the feeling of being in the way.
Osso Bucco was very good. We had Peruvian ceviche as an appetizer that was excellent. We also had the mahi-mahi. Would recommend everything that we had.
My wife and I met some retired colleagues from home in British Columbia for a memorable lunch, and were very pleased with the river view, the wonderful food, the quality and the value. We will be back!
Every time we are in Puerto Vallarta we have to make sure we have at least one day to eat Brunch. The food is delicious love the made to order omelet and quesadilla station and all of the fresh buffet items. Delicious waffles and love the syrup with creme sauce. The staff is so nice and ready to get you whatever you need. I would highly recommend this place.
The Sunday Brunch is great....typical Mexican dishes, and plenty of it! We try to go as often as possible; when friends are visiting, we definitely go.
Music, food, decor...it’s just wonderful.
Very good food and service
Excellent food and service, and we enjoyed the local band. The entertainment changes nightly.
For 2 years we thought River Cafe was closed for remodeling. It all was started by the stairs down from the bridge being taken out. We thought we were going back to a newly reopened restaurant. To our surprise we found that it had never closed and was just as we had loved and remembered it. We had a good meal and great service. When we were leaving there was a fun band playing in the bar with a gathering of people enjoying their music. Great place!
Beautiful setting and a quiet table. Service was great and the food was good
LOVE this place! Food is great and staff is outstanding!
Good but not great. A step above many but far below the top places.
Had a lovely experience. Two musicians played Brazilian jazz in the background. Lovely open air restaurant. Food was above average for Puerto Vallarta. Mahi mahi was excellent. Molten chocolate dessert melted in our mouth.
River Cafe is a favorite of ours for food, atmosphere, and service. We have been coming to Puerto Vallarta for twenty years and would never miss the opportunity to dine here. It is a first choice for holidays and other special occasions. We always recommend it to friends who visit.
We always consider this our special restaurant in Puerto Vallarta. A step above most all other restaurants.
The River Cafe is our favourite restaurant in Puerto Vallarta, and we always make certain to dine with them when we are in town. The food, ambiance and service is always exquisite, but they really go the extra mile on special occasions. This was our second Valentine's meal with them (we are usually in Vallarta for two weeks in February) and the special menu was once again divine from the first bite to the last. The service by Antonio was impeccable.
Wonderful Sunday brunch buffet. Highly recommended
Loved it..the waitstaff was wonderful!
We thought we were going to a classic, 4-5 star restaurant. Instead, tired decor, non creative menu, poorly executed. Grilled octopus that time not taken to properly tenderize- not even chewable. Mahi mahi, 1 portion not from prime center cut fillet but a fringe, a camelized sauce that was inedible, nauseatingly sweet without any complexity. Service which was not particularly attentive & amazingly slow for both 1st course & entree . Somebody is not managing this place!
Solid menu with a good selection of meat and seafood items. Service was very good and the setting right on the river is great. Musical entertainment was also nice.
Lovely evening with quiet music. The service was extremely attentive. Salmon and duck were cooked and presented to perfection.
Sunday brunch features the most wonderful Mexican dishes. Even if you are unfamiliar with them, they all mix together very nicely for an outstandingly delicious taste sensation.
Have dined at River Cafe when we are in Puerto Vallarta for the past 10 years. Also great service, delicious food and a wonderful evening.
A great river's edge location with impeccable service, good food and convivial atmosphere.
New Years Day Brunch
Excellent experience. We come often as we live right up the river from them and love what they do. Miss the rush, skip the beach restaurants and get a great meal in a great place.
River Cafe is definitely a PV classic. Nice secluded location along the river. Even saw a couple river otters. But also very close to both downtown and old town. Smoked salmon appetizer was terrific. Seared tuna entre was speculacular. And dirty martini was one of the best in PV. What more could you ask for?
Excellent food, service and atmosphere. top notch!
Took my father to The River Cafe. Right from the start we were made feel very welcome. We were seated right away in the beautiful Gazebo over looking the river. It was around 4:30 so if you can do an early dinner or super late lunch, you can really enjoy the serenity this place can offer. We shared the Peruvian Ceviche that was Mahi mahi. It was fabulous. I ordered the duck with a blackberry sauce that was superb. My father ordered the ribeye and I forgot to order the sauce on the side. So glad because he really enjoyed it. I tried it and found the steak melted in my mouth. Very tender and tasty. Even the bread was a wonderful treat. While I wish I had room for one of their deserts there was more than plenty of food. We left there very happy and in need of a nap. The positive reviews are spot on. Glad I did not miss out.
We ate here on Christmas and were pleasantly surprised! I’ve walked by this place on the way to the shopping area on the rio cuale a ton of times and never stopped. Glad I picked it randomly on Opentable by availability on a holiday. Excellent service, quieter, great view of the river. Awesome food and great value! Can’t wait to go back in April!
Many menu choices. Had a great dinner. Will return again.
Beautiful setting by the River Cuale. Great friendly service. Good wine list. Lamb lasagne very very good. Shrimp outstanding.
Excellent menu with a number of Peruvian dishes. Seviche was particularly good & a a huge serving.
Wonderful, as always. Never disappointed. Staff is super! Looking forward to our next visit to River Cafe in April.
We've eaten at River Cafe several times over the years and it always warranted a 5 star rating. Sadly, this time the food did not meet its standard. One of our party ordered a seafood platter he said was sorely disappointing. Another said the food was decent but not stellar as it has been before. My pasta was warm, not hot, and appeared to have sat under the heat lamps too long. Yes, we will go back...could have just been an off night.
We just had desserts. We had 3, cheesecake, creme brulee, and fried ice cream. The ice cream was great and really enjoyed. The other two seemed really dry or over cooked. They weren't very good. The presentation was good. We were bummed not to do the flambe for the kids, but it made since that we wouldn't see the flames in the day. We should have tried the flan, it was probably way better than the cheesecake.
The services was fantastic though. Everyone was very welcoming and friendly and made our kids feel welcomed. The harpists in the lobby was fantastic. We loved sitting next to the river. Such a cool environment.
Rib eye was outstanding. Excellent service ahi was very good. Will be back
Some of the food was excellent. Fish overcooked.
Probably will not go back.
