The Ritz-Carlton Grill Ratings and Reviews
The food was very good but the service was awful. The waitress was not friendly, wouldn't look us in the eye, and was very soft spoken. She brought us bread and drinks and then we sat for about 20 minutes, not really sure if she was our server or not, she never introduced herself. It was very far below our expectation at the Rtiz.
Had not dined here in a number of years. The weight staff and hostess where professional, polite and friendly - everything one expects from Ritz-Carlton service. Unfortunately, the place was dead. I could see this being more active during the week and for earlier dinners, still, it was shockingly quite at 7:30pm on a Saturday. The lobby bar and Cigar Club were plenty active but The Grill was less than "happening", even for the older demographic which tends to be more comfortable with this price point. The food was good, though far from inspired. I can appreciate a simple menu but The Grill's menu was more uninspired than brief. Admittedly, I don't tend to have dinner when traveling and staying at other Ritz-Carltons (usually just breakfasts and lunches), so perhaps there just ins't much focus on providing an exciting dinner option; that being said, at the prices charged, a more inventive menu with more exciting options and better wine selection would still seem appropriate for the venue. I always appreciate Ritz-Carlton service and professionalism, but I think The Grill needs a complete overhaul in terms of menu, decor and general focus. Perhaps an expanded menu with some updated dishes that would help draw in more customers. Then again, maybe that's just not a concern. As for me, I don't see a reason to return to The Grill anytime soon.
The food portion of our evening was excellent. The Cesar salad contained just right amount of anchovy in the dressing. Our filet entree was prepared as ordered and was tender and flavorful. Our issues were with service. Twice water was spilled on the table, once by the bus boy and once by the server. No apology and no clean up. Second, our completed salad bowls remained too long on the table before being removed. For the most part service was just OK but totally indifferent. This is the Ritz Carlton and they should do better. Overall my wife and I had a nice evening but it should have been a great evening.
The Grill was closed for the evening so we ended up in the dining room. The staff was wonderful and the chef walked around and made recommendations... then came back as we were finishing up our meal for more pleasant conversation. It was a great meal: impeccably prepared and graciously served.
Arrived at 6:50; at 8:30 still waiting for main course. We asked for the meal to be bagged and 30 minutes later had the to-go bag.
The reservation was for the Grill Room, but all Valentines Day diners were combined into the room where breakfast and lunch are served. Staff was inadequate once we got through the Maitre D phase. We were pouring our own wine and waiting for an ice bucket.
The soup was ok; the appetizer fair, but not what was expected, with duck a'la orange a plate of shoe string potatoes, a bite of duck meat, and fried egg roll type tubes filled with something. Very heavy and ordinary. The oysters Rockefeller, minced scallops and crab cake were good, but served warm on a hot plate.
When we opened the carry out at hone, we realized that the waitress did not ask, and we had not mentioned how we wished to have the beef tenderloin or lamb rack prepared. Both were rare, just seared. We gave up without trying it. The promised dark chocolate dessert looked like a milk chocolate cookie with a scoop of a fruity mousse on top.
The forced menu price fix was first mentioned in a phone call a couple days before. Very expensive, disappointing anniversary and valentines meal.
The Grill staff wonderful. Manager Mr. Blake and Miss Ryanne accommodating - set up round table near fireplace as requested. Mr. Blake acknowledged birthdays generously. Wait-staff Lorena knowledgeable, efficient and served food timely so all dishes served while satisfyingly hot.
My wife and I celebrated our 49th wedding anniversary at the Ritz Carlton Grill last night and we could not have asked for a better evening. Both the food and service were nothing short of outstanding. We will definitely return for our next "special" evening. The staff were wonderful.
We had a 6:00 p.m. Reservation on Christmas night. It was a 5 course meal for $100/pp. we were sat at 6 p.m. By 6:40, we finally had a glass of wine to enjoy. At 7:15 the first course came. I told the server that he would need to pick up the pace because having 1 course over 1 hr and 15 mins was unacceptable. He apologize profusely! He was very attentive and the entire staff was very attentive. The food and beverage Mgr came by to ask how we were and I expressed my frustration and he comped our $75 bottle of wine for us!
The banquets are very worn, there was a large tear in the back area of ours with exposed foam protruding.
Overall, I didn't find spending $300 for a special Christmas dinner at the Ritz met my expectations. I expect perfect ambiance, a coursed meal should not have huge delays between each course.
