The Rimrock - Fairmont Palliser Calgary Ratings and Reviews
Friends came here for brunch. It is set up as a buffet with multiple stations, including seafood (ceviche, shrimp, crab legs & mussels - all delicious), salad island, hot entrees, including eggs Benedict, pancakes, vegetables, chicken, salmon, and a carving station with delicious roast beef & all the fixings. There is a dessert table & a chocolate fountain. Our server was attentive & cleared plates when needed, freshened drinks, and was very pleasant. This is definitely a special occasion destination as it is not inexpensive. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
So we have booked a Sunday brunch at the Rimrock, Fairmont Palliser. What a disappointment.
The food was awful. The roast beef was oozing blood by the time we have reached the table, the turkey was a mess, no cranberry sauce-had to ask for it. The desserts were similar to grocery store bought. Salmon was overcooked and dry. Coffee tasted like coloured water. And the list goes on. We were seated at two tables joined together, and those were not even (same level) at the top. One being higher than the other. Now, to some it all might seam like petty, however, all of the deficiencies add up. I truly expected something much more, being that this was all at the Fairmont Palliser, one of the top hotels in the city. The hotel which charger $500 per night. I am going to compare Hotel MacDonald in Edmonton. Top notch. High class, beautifully presented food. Nothing out of place. All I can say, I will never dine at the Rimrock again. The drive to Edmonton for the Thanksgiving brunch is well worth it. (I am and was well aware that Rimrock brunch was not a Thanksgiving brunch). For the price, go somewhere else.
First week in October, restaurant was not busy. Decided to have dinner in hotel after day of traveling. Was a little concerned when the waiter informed us that they were out of red wine glasses. Do not believe that the restaurant or the hotel were up to FIrmont standards.
We dined before going to Vertigo Theatre which was right next door. Our waiter was very professional and ensured that we had all our questions answered about the menu. He ensured that we finished our meal in a timely manner once he knew we were going to the theatre. He also suggested an economical sharing of the wine. The meals were all excellent. I especially enjoyed the watermelon salad and the chocolate sphere was quite unique - plenty for two to share.
A pleasant experience for my wife and I to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The atmosphere is interesting and the staff very professional. The Brunch was fantastic with many items to choose from including prime rib for all you beef enthusiast out there. Parking on Sundays is cheap and can be accessed on 10th Avenue.
We had a lovely morning, celebrating a milestone birthday. Our server Doug, was exceptional. The food was excellent, yet still family friendly. There was not an overwhelming amount of selections so the presented product was hot, tasty & had something for every palette. My only comment is that the washrooms are not equipped for disability access. You have to use ones in the hotel for that.
We went to celebrate our anniversary. We were quickly seated and were given menus. Drinks were ordered - and it was good to see that they had craft beer from several places around town including Last Best and Wild Rose Breweries.
I had the Chef's 3 course special which included a grilled tuna salad, duck with cherry pie and vanilla ice cream for desert. My wife started with the garden salad and had the chardonnay chicken as her main. For desert our waiter brought us a dark chocolate mousse cake.
The food and service were excellent. Portions were substantial. Price seemed a little high - but not outrageous. Will definitely return to try some of the other interesting items on the menu.
We thoroughly enjoyed our Sunday brunch. The buffet had an outstanding selection and was kept fresh and hot. Our server Rosa was excellent. Unobtrusive and efficient. It was a relaxing way to spend a Sunday morning as we never felt rushed. We will definitely be back
Considering the Fairmount Palliser is well known for high end; we were very disappointed. We made reservations for Brunch. $50/person and the buffet was probably one of the least amount of variety and worse food we ever had. There are so many more restaurants in Calgary, with better quality food, great prices and a larger yummy variety of brunch. For the price we paid we would have rather spent the money and go to a local diner then the Palliser.
A late Mother's Day brunch. Really good for a brunch buffet. Seafood bar was a hit, and roast beef was beautifully done. Even our 5 year old has fun. Only problem was not being asked for drinks when we came in, and didn't even seem like any server was assigned to our table even after we got our first round of food. Had to flag down a server who graciously took or drink order, even though it wasn't her table. So good recovery of service that way.
For $50 a head, the brunch selection was disappointing. The bucket of crab legs and shrimp on ice was 1/3 full for 2 hours, the sushi was very loosely rolled and fell apart simply from lifting off of the display platter, desserts were small tarts and dried cake. When I imagined a Fairmont Palliser infamous Sunday brunch, I expected a high quality selection and beautiful spread of food...considering I spent $150 for 3 ppl and 2 mimosas. Underwhelming selection and food quality and was very disappointing.
We enjoyed our dinner at the RimRock. We were seated by the fireplace which was nice as it was snowing. We had a Caesar salad split - plenty for two. Tasty. And we each had a bowl of the french onion soup. The broth was especially flavorful and the cheese was melted and cooked just right. The croutons were crispy and tasted great.
It was a fantastic dinner! The beef cheeks were out of this world, and the sable fish was made to perfection, all served beautifully with creative accompaniment of flavourful fava beans, vegetable purees etc. Service was impeccable; our waiter was attentive and accommodating, and he certainly did not treat us differently just because we came with a coupon (which sometimes happens at other places). Overall an excellent culinary experience, highly recommended.
The meal was ok, had better for less money for sure. There was a wedding meal going on so it was pretty noisy, not sure if it's usually a nice noise level or not. The wine is very expensive but I did see someone walk in with a bottle so you could probably do that and just pay corkage. Overall there are nicer places for less money.
Food was a hit and miss. My fish was horrible but all the sides on the place (risotto, vegetables) were outstanding. It was like that the whole night. Set menu of 5 courses imposed because of Valentine's day. Not necessary, restaurant was not even 1/3 full.
We chose the Rimrock as what was to be part of special evening. Unfortunately and unbeknownst to us we found out we walked into a set menu that turned into double of what we expected for our budget. We stuck it out even though we were already disappointed.
Our seating location was not a good one considering the number of empty tables...hardly romantic. We were actually located so close to the host station that we were nearly part of the discussions of disappointment over a set menu. Very unfortunate to see so many groups walk out on a restaurant.
I think there is potential to be the class act it wants to be but it hasn't found it. And at the price and expectation, it should be there. I would not say the food was to die for. There are so many great places to go in Calgary that you should not be spending money on any kind of disappointment. Especially at this level.
As the host to my party, I was embarrassed.
It is a mixed reaction eating in the Rimrock Room. Our party of 4 paid an average of $71.50 each which included one drink each. The food was good but very limited selection. No Prime Rib beef offered anymore. Slow service but we certainly were not rushed. When comparing this restaurant to the many others available, we will probably never be back.
Over priced. One of our party was Lactose Intolerant. Noted to restaurant when booking reservation. Told restaurant staff twice once when seated again when ordering .Meals arrived the lactose free meal was covered in a sauce with butter. Called to waiters attention. He didn't know what to say. They took meal away and the others in our group ate their meals. About 15 minutes later the redone meal was returned. We had wait and watch the other meal being consumed... THERE WAS NOTHING OFFERED IN COMPENSATION not even a coffee.
The prices were extremely high for the value received .The quality of the meals was not up to expectations. Steaks were tough and overdone. Very disappointed
There were 10 of us for dinner on Boxing day. The buffet was a beautiful spread with both full turkey dinner and roast beef. Loved the salad section and the kids loved the chocolate fondue tower. Would definitely recommend. The restaurant and the hotel were decorated beautifully. We took many amazing photos.
The buffet was significantly smaller this year but the price stayed the same. There were no crackers with the cheese - when I asked the hostess said that is a great idea. Really?!?!?
Turkey, stuffing and mashed potatoes and gravy was exceptional.
Was a bit disappointed with the desert selections also.
