Server was beyond friendly and helpful. Food was absolutely amazing, hot and beautifully presented.
Amazing service and such a comfortable ambience, got a seat next to the fireplace and was so beautiful. Amazing food and excellent wait staff
The Palliser used to shine at brunch but I don't think I have ever been so disappointed in a brunch. Yes, there was seafood, but it was all served chilled - the scallops were as close to frozen as they could be. The cooked salmon was warm at best and the chicken in mushroom sauce was cold. The Eggs Benedict had solidified Hollandaise and hard yolks and both ladies in our group described them as disgusting. We couldn't mention it to our server because we never saw her. Our water was empty, our coffee was empty, and she never came by. The foods I mention were replaced with hot items after we had already tried to get through our cold food. Not once did anyone ask us how it was. The Palliser is still charging the big dollars for their brunch but the spread was much less exciting than it used to be, and if you are offering less, you should likely charge less. Perhaps there is a reason the Rimrock was empty.
Absolutely AMAZING experience. We took my mother and law for her birthday brunch and we all loved it.. and over ate!! The only thing I would say; they brought over a birthday dessert with a sparkler on it without us asking which was so nice of them! However once we got the bill they had charged us for the dessert... even though the dessert table included in the buffet had everything you could ever want!
Waitress was excellent. Disappointed there was no "well done" roast beef - what was available was far too rare for me. Expected there to be more selection based on previous visit here and at the Banff Springs. Salmon was excellent; wife really enjoyed salmon and scallops.
It’s an excellent place to celebrate special occasions. The ambience is beautiful and relaxing, the food, especially the desserts are delightful, and the staff are great. The music is okay, but I prefer a live piano music. Overall, it was an amazing experience!
Amazing food, beautiful fireplace but service was horrible and sat for long periods with no one to take our order. We eventually, had to pay our bill up front as the server never came back. :(
We had a lovely table near the fireplace for breakfast. The restaurant has a wonderful ambience with jazz music playing at a low level, making it easy to cary on a conversation. Our server was very attentive and our food arrived promptly. While the food was tasty, the prices seem a little high, but not really surprising for this level of hotel. Overall, a great way to start the day.
The food was very good but surprisingly there was no fruit salad except for cut pieces to be dipped in chocolate at the dessert station. My dining companion had the cod which was bland. Compared to the Carriage House Sunday Brunch, the Rimrock had less variety for $12.00 more. What you are paying extra for is the ambience which is incomparable to in any other venue in the city. For a special occasion, have brunch at the Rimrock while enjoying the outstanding decor.
Amazing Sunday brunch. Food was absolutely fantastic
Lovely evening. Great service. We had a lot of fun, with exactly the right level of formality.
Great food, locally sourced. Very nicely presented.
The ambience is classic historic Alberta. A Calgary treasure.
Great food! Seafood was excellent and desserts are delicious. Will go back again
Still one of the best places for brunch around the city. But it is dependent on the chef for the day. We were lucky I think.
food was great and great spread of different types. lots of great cheeses, includes some seafood and sushi.
Outstanding menu and very tasty food for NYE in Calgary. Atmosphere is pleasant, décor is reminiscent of the early 1900 with fireplace, service if overall very good.
We went there as a family party (7 people) for New Year’s Eve dinner. We were at the 6:00pm seating, and we had been advised there was a 9:00pm seating so we wouldn’t be able to linger all evening. That being said, the pace of service for our table was fairly slow (in a good way), so it became obvious that our table wouldn’t be used for the 9:00pm seating. Fine by us! The food was very good (it was a set 5 course menu), and they accommodated our party’s food restrictions/allergies very well (there was a bit of confusion at first with one person allergic to all nuts being served a dish with nuts sprinkled on top, but that was quickly corrected). A very good time was had by all. The children’s menu was quite impressive and was the perfect combination of “fancy” and “not too fancy” for our 12 year old.
I would definitely recommend!
Had the Boxing Day Dinner Buffet. The seafood was great! Roast beef and turkey are ok. Overall, a nice dinner buffet. The servers were prompt in clearing the dirty dishes and filling the water. They brought a special desert for my wife's birthday which was excellent. Overall, a great restaurant for special occasions.
It was lovely and quiet on Boxing Day. The food was excellent. Our server was Simon and he was excellent. We have been coming here for a number of years. You can always count on having an excellent time.
Very disappointed with the food. English muffins not fresh and over cooked, eggs over cooked, bacon over cooked and ran out. Omelette station very basic. The cheese and meat plate were empty for the entire time we were there. Tables not set properly - no spoons for coffee. Long waits for coffee and juice service. Over priced - far better food and value from Denny’s.
We went for the advertised Christmas dinner, but it felt more like we were in a poorly-run fast food restaurant. We were given the wrong order more than once. Hamburger was burnt. Soup was tepid. The wait to be seated was longer than would be considered reasonable. The bill was wrong and we had to contest that, too. The waiter was...never mind.
We have had excellent dining experience at the Rimrock in Banff for three Christmases in a row, so we expected a similar level of service and professionalism, but it turned out to be a big letdown.
The experience in the lobby was great, and the kids enjoyed the gingerbread house.
This was a Christmas eve dinner. The food was very good. It's pricey, and it was obvious the servers were overwhelmed keeping up with the diners, but we had lots of time and didn't mind the waiting between. The server was personable and comped my glass of wine because we were content with the wait. The chef is obviously very talented and I suspect ordinary dining is more reasonable so I'd recommend it for a special dinner or for someone who didn't mind the price and wanted to be sure of the food.+
First time for the Christmas dinner. Totally, total exceeded my expectations. Fabulous food very well presented and amazing taste. Make the decision on what to select from the menu was the hardest part. Next year we will definitely be back with one change. That is we will have to make two evening reservation so we can items we miss. Complements to all the hard working staff behind the scenes that made it a truly wonderful evening.
Excellent!! Go enjoy the Yule Love It Lunch or the Sunday brunch!
Too expensive for such poor service. We had to go looking for our waiter to pay the bill and went to the lounge for coffee and desert where we had great service.
Our group of Senior ladies have been coming to The Palliser for several years. Our only disappointment was-no Christmas pudding!!! I know it is not loved by many but we always had that pudding at Christmas back in the "olden days"! We hope you will find a way to re-invent plum/Christmas pudding by the time we return next Christmas !!! 'Have a wonderful Christmas and Happy times in 2018. Regards, Claire
I don’t get the Fairmont Palliser in comparison to other Fairmonts. We went there on a Sunday brunch and the only thing accetable was the roast beef and the service.
This was promoted as a special brunch and the eggs Benedict were rock solid with a terrible Bernaise sauce. There were hardly any deserts left.
The waiter was great and so we did not want to complain. Looks like we have to travel to Banff to get a true Fairmont experience
Great brunch for family. Good courteous service. Good variety with quality items like scallops.
I really don't want to be too negative to such an iconic establishment but .... it was busy in the hotel and my small group of 4 suffered over an hour between appetizer and entree. The service was friendly but the kitchen was obviously hugely over stretched. The food was a mixed bag - my soup and lamb was great - but my wife's carpaccio was tasty but a truly microscopic portion and sadly her main course pork was only suitable as a puck - dry and rock hard. Our guests were not impressed either. Unusually I didn't complain at the time because we wanted to enjoy the evening but we will never go back for a meal at the Rimrock - they are on my very short list of never again!!!
Been there lots of time. Usually the service is excellent. This time it was not as good.
Food was very good. Choices were limited. Service was excellent.
Everything was amazing, from the service to the table location to the food. It was my husband’s birthday, and the restaurant did everything they could to make it extra special. Our waiter Simon was wonderful. Being seated next to the fireplace was very cozy. The food was exceptional. We’ll definitely be coming back again!
Great meal. Super tasty steak and open table made it easy to reserve.
We dined during the Christmas party season so the dining room was quite empty but the ambiance was lovely. Waiter very attentive. Food really great!
Great fine dining with excellent service. Good and wine were spectacular! 👍🏿
Excellent meal and service, would go again and have the Salmon again, was excellent ! Wife had the chicken and it was also excellent, would like a dairy free dessert option as there was nothing for me for dessert.
Friends came here for brunch. It is set up as a buffet with multiple stations, including seafood (ceviche, shrimp, crab legs & mussels - all delicious), salad island, hot entrees, including eggs Benedict, pancakes, vegetables, chicken, salmon, and a carving station with delicious roast beef & all the fixings. There is a dessert table & a chocolate fountain. Our server was attentive & cleared plates when needed, freshened drinks, and was very pleasant. This is definitely a special occasion destination as it is not inexpensive. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
Thanksgiving brunch was excellent overall. It’s the Palliser, that speaks for itself.
So we have booked a Sunday brunch at the Rimrock, Fairmont Palliser. What a disappointment.
The food was awful. The roast beef was oozing blood by the time we have reached the table, the turkey was a mess, no cranberry sauce-had to ask for it. The desserts were similar to grocery store bought. Salmon was overcooked and dry. Coffee tasted like coloured water. And the list goes on. We were seated at two tables joined together, and those were not even (same level) at the top. One being higher than the other. Now, to some it all might seam like petty, however, all of the deficiencies add up. I truly expected something much more, being that this was all at the Fairmont Palliser, one of the top hotels in the city. The hotel which charger $500 per night. I am going to compare Hotel MacDonald in Edmonton. Top notch. High class, beautifully presented food. Nothing out of place. All I can say, I will never dine at the Rimrock again. The drive to Edmonton for the Thanksgiving brunch is well worth it. (I am and was well aware that Rimrock brunch was not a Thanksgiving brunch). For the price, go somewhere else.
First week in October, restaurant was not busy. Decided to have dinner in hotel after day of traveling. Was a little concerned when the waiter informed us that they were out of red wine glasses. Do not believe that the restaurant or the hotel were up to FIrmont standards.
The food was all right. Our server was great. It is good that children under the age of five are not charged. The buffet is good, but not worth $49 per adult person.
