The Riggsby is a classic. It’s intimate, nostalgic, a little lost in time, cozy, kind of refined, yet definitely playful. The Riggsby is part of the neighborhood. It’s the “go to” place, where the bartender treats you like you’ve been coming in for years, even if it’s your first time stopping by.View Private Dining Details
What Insiders Are Saying
Attached to the Carlyle Hotel in DuPont, The Riggsby does everything “classic” extremely well.
This is quickly becoming one of my favorite restaurants in the city. The place is so beautiful. The staff (especially Gracie and Joe) are AMAZING! The food is to die for (i love the pork chop and the apple cranberry tart so much)! You will not regret it.
The Riggsby has been on my list of places to try for some time now. I wanted to love it but that's not the way the cookie crumbled. I went with two girlfriends for dinner on a Saturday night. We were running late for our reservation because of heavier-than-expected traffic. They were very gracious about holding our reservation so that was nice. We were promptly seated when we arrived. The space was cosy but lively so we couldn't really overhear our neighbor's convos despite the close proximity. We ordered the deviled eggs to start and I thought they were yummy. For entrees, we ordered the chicken, duck and salmon. The chicken was underseasoned and the salmon and the accoutrements for the duck weren't stellar either. The creme brulee was pretty good. The brownie dish is ok if you're in the mood for chocolate but there was way too much ice cream. As for the service, one of my girlfriends got an older menu so she initially wanted to order something that was no longer available. The server also generally didn't seem especially knowledgeable about the menu and she was a little too absent.
A fantastic dinner and a super cool restaurant hidden in DC! #loveriggsby
Great meal... manager knows how to make an amazing manhattan.
I ordered the salmon...it was delicious. My husband ordered the beef wellington, which was a special addition to the menu. It was cooked perfectly, melted in mouth! Service was exceptional. Cant' wait to return.
Very enjoyable. Upon request music volume was lowered and all was perfect then.
We loved the setting, the food was good, not outstanding, the service was really good, and we were really able to catch up in a relatively quiet atmosphere. We'll go back!
The service was great! The food was very good, although the specials of Beef Wellington and Schnitzel ran out very early.
Miss Olivia !!
Fantastic food and service. Would recommend to anyone looking for quality food.
The chocolate cake was fabulous.
This was our second time at The Riggsby. Everything was perfect during our last visit. That’s why I chose this restaurant for a special night when our best DC friends could meet our best LA friends. Boy, was I wrong! The service was terrible. We were seated for over an hour before our waiter even took our food order. I wasn’t super hungry so I only ordered an entree only to be told by the waiter that I was expected to order a side or salad because it was a “multi-course dining experience”. . So I ordered the wedge salad. Which was delicious. However i could eat a bit. Our waiter would disappear for large chunks of time when we had no drinks. One of my dinner companions ordered ice on the side with her white wine (I know, I know) only to have the waiter visibly roll his eyes. Other patrons came, ordered, ate and left before we even had our food. Overall, I’d probably go back to The Riggsby but will request a different server.
My fave thing on the menu are the deviled eggs and the chopped salad. Never disappoints!
Excellent fish dishes the night we visited. A pleasant and relaxed place, with an interesting take on American cuisine. The service was pleasant but a bit uncoordinated, as though a supervisor was off for the night. Still, I will return.
We always love The Riggsby. Great food, a warm interesting room to dine in. Everyone is so nice there. I had there hamburger for the 1st time, one of the best around.
Not vegetarian friendly at all. All nice restaurants I've been to are prepared to serve a vegetarian entree, but this one fails - only offered to serve the pasta course without the meat. Ok service, ok meals and drinks for the price of $200 all in for two people. I think there are better options in DC.
The Riggsby was a great restaurant. Food was great - make sure to try the smoked trout. The bar was well stocked with a really superb bartender.
One of our favorite spots for brunch in DC!
Can't say enough good things about this spot! From the first greeting from our server to the closing "thank you" from the manager, it was a pitch-perfect experience. Highly-recommended for a date night or special occasion; the dining room nails the "supper club" ambiance.
Service needs improvement. Staff were rushed and feigning interest. Oysters were the worst I’ve ever had.
I read reviews of patrons before I chose to book my dinner at the Riggsby. The reviews which lauded the quality of the food and service were spot on.
The chicken dish was simply gorgeous. The service was excellent.
I would be glad to return when next I’m in Washington DC.
One of the best restaurants I have been to. The food was delicious and the service was great!
Ive been to The Riggsby many times for dinner but this was the first for a business lunch. It is an absolutely perfect spot for business dining. You can actually hear your dining company ions! The lunch menu is excellent and the service is superb. Great choice.
My family went here for my mom’s birthday and were so pleased with the courteous service, the high quality of the food and its presentation, and the cozy ambience. This is one of my favorite restaurants in the city. Everything we hd was truly delicious. I highly recommend the deviled eggs, goat cheese and jalapeño croquettes for appetizers and the beef Wellington and spaghetti specials. We had the chocolate cake for dessert - it won an award in the Washingtonian magazine for being the best in the city. I can see why. We love coming here and will be back!
?The waiter was excellent - very helpful with useful suggestions for a vegetarian mea for one of us.
Food was great - as usual!l
Sunday Brunch with my boyfriend and friends. Everything was delicious right down to their famous chocolate cake. I wanted another one to be honest. SO good. Will definitely recommend!
Fabulous dinner for FIL’s 70th Birthday!
Our server who began with the table was bad. The bar was backed up which was no fault of his, but he was dismissive and rude when asked what the issue was with drinks after 15 minutes. Meanwhile the restaurant was empty but the bartender had a full bar of diners- ie he wasn’t paying attention/didn’t care about the drink orders from the restaurant. The server also disappeared for 10 minutes.
I will give a lot of credit to the manager. He came in and took over the table and he was fantastic. I come here often and the server and his reaction would have made me not come back, but the manager really did a great job and should be commended.
Great neighborhood gem
The food was good and the atmosphere was kind of cool, but there was nothing super noteworthy. The bar looks cool - seems like if I came back, it would be to have a drink at the bar.
Great find. Visiting the Georgetown area for a few days. Best service we’ve had in a restaurant in a very long time. We had multiple folks stop at our table to make sure everything was ok. The entire staff pitched in. It was great to see. Would definitely go back.
Clearly no Captain at the helm. I dined here previously and had a delightful meal, but then again the owner/chef was in the kitchen. Times have unfortunately changed as the kitchen appeared to be staffed by short order cooks. The salmon entre was so salty that it was inedible, lamb chops were served on a pool of greenish goo and tasted like old muton. My wife’s duck serving was so small that even with her petite frame left her hungry. A side order of zucchini was also served on the green goo. At $100 a head without a bottle of wine - what a joke.
Great food with impressive seafood selection , friendly professional wait staff always 2 steps ahead. A neighborhood gem with a cozy environment that makes you want to come back for more. Arguably the best happy hour in Dupont or Logan. With no store front signage Riggsby has a clubby atmosphere that adds to the overall charm of this restaurant.
What a gem! Our first visit to The Riggsby was Labor Day weekend. The food -- incredible! The wine list -- exquisite! Cocktails -- perfect! And I found why they have the best chocolate cake in the District. Especially the service -- Robert was great. Strong recommendations, attentive. I cannot say enough about this place.
One of our favorite spots in DC, never disappoints. Cool mid-century atmosphere. Great food!
Excellent service, delicious food, cool Art Deco setting. We’ll be back!
Amazing place. The service was excellent. The staff is very warm and friendly. I loved the food and they even gave me a free dessert for my birthday!
The food was very average and the service was not good. There was a lot of staff around but no one seemed to have a defined role or assigned tables.
Nice ambiance and staff. On time reservation.
Very good gazpacho. Food delivered on time.
Rest of meal was fine, no complaints but nothing special. Nice presentation
We went to the Riggsby for the first time during Restaurant Week. The food was delicious! It is great for brunch with half price bottles of champagne. The spaghetti dish was absolutely delicious with so much flavor. Definitely going back!
