What Insiders Are Saying
Attached to the Carlyle Hotel in DuPont, The Riggsby does everything “classic” extremely well.
Service was slow and we were seated 20 mins after our reservation despite the restaurant not being crowded. Other 2-person tables arrived after us and were seated before us.
Food was ok, nothing amazing.
Restaurant was way over priced for food that wasn't too interesting. Very noisy.. couldn't have a conversation.
The staff was friendly, and the food was delicious.
One of our neighborhood favorites. Duck, schlow burger, beef carpaccio all fantastic.
The service from both the bartenders and wait staff was superb, the food was delicious and the ambiance was wonderful. Definitely the best place I visited while in DC.
A bit pricey, however very nice ambiance, service and food was good.
Some of the best food and best service in the anywhere. Love everything about this restaurant.
The food was good, but the service really was subpar both at the bar and in the dining room.
Could not get the bar tender's attention after the first drink was served and for dinner. Ordered an appetizer, had it delivered by someone other than our server, ate it, had the plates cleared and still had not seen our waitress to 1) receive our drink order 2) place our dinner order. When it came to the meal the food was again, good, but the waitress was MIA. There was a table of 4 that sat after our table of 2 and somehow they managed to get service in a timely fashion as they received their bill before us. Every time we tried to catch the eye of our server she somehow just looked right through us or went the other way. Super frustrating and confusing as we didn't have complicate or special orders. Just seemed a bit spacey and did run into her in restroom on her cell phone... perhaps distracted with personal stuff and not attentive to her work?
We went here for our anniversary- SO glad we did! The service was impeccable, our server wished us happy anniversary multiple times and brought us complimentary champagne, and Every. Single. Course. Was delicious! Our server’s recommendations were spot on, from drinks to courses, the service was consistent and impeccable, and we never felt rushed. My husband LOVED the pasta with ramp pesto, my pan-seared duck was a perfectly cooked medium and deeply flavorful, and my husband, who is EXTREMELY picky about steak, was extremely happy with his New York strip, which is a big deal. The recommended signature drinks were delightful, as were the pre-dinner snacks. At the end of the meal our server surprised us with a complimentary dessert- he had picked the strawberry shortcake, which was his favorite, and once again it did not disappoint. For the quality of the food and the service the Riggbsy is extremely well priced- we’ve absolutely gone to more expensive places and had disappointing food and service (Mirabelle in dc and Le Cirque in Vegas both come to mind). I can’t recommend the Riggbsy enough!
Excellent service, food was great and the ambiance was calm and intimate. There was also a large party here at the same time and everything ran smoothly.
Love love love Joe and Adam!
Slow service, loud environment, poor cuisine. Avoid. So many better choices in dc.
Always a delicious, relatively quiet brunch. It can be hard to get a last minute brunch reservation in a city that takes brunch so seriously, but luckily the Riggsby tends to have space around noon on Saturdays. The food is delicious and the ambiance is relaxed.
Service was great. Pancakes were delicious.
We are now regulars at the Riggsby. Not only is the menu stellar, but the service is truly top-notch. It's a step beyond what's expected. Cannot recommend this place highly enough.
The food was good, but the service was lacking. Took a while to order first drinks and we had to flag someone down when we needed more water. The food was good just wish the service matched the food
Amazing decor - so beautiful inside
In a boutique hotel
Service rates a 10+
Food - a Michelin Chef is in the back which made everything you put in your mouth, just melt
And even if you don't save room - order the Chocolate Cake, rated #1 in DC
Incredible wine and drink menu
I cannot say enough about this restaurant - It will now be my preference for all special occasions and business dining meetings
This is truly "special"
There were 4 of us on Easter Sunday eve, celebrating a birthday. Our server (and I'm so sorry I forgot his name but I believe begins with an M) and the manager - along with the backup server were absolutely stupdendous!!! They were attentive, fun, on point, and because of the birthday celebration went above and beyond to please us. It was a great eve. Food was fabo. Thank you Riggsby!
The Maryland style crab cakes eggs Benedict on the brunch menu was underwhelming. We were surprised to see it come out from the kitchen as a deep fried crab cake. In addition, since it was Easter Sunday, the brunch menu was condensed to a handful of their items paired with an appetizer for $45 per person. At first it seemed like a good deal but after tasting the eggs Benedict, we thought otherwise. I would like to return for the dinner menu, as those options seem to have better reviews. I will say that the cocktails were made exceptionally well.
Unbelievable drinks, food and service. This place is spot on. And it has such a cool, Art Deco vibe. A hidden gem! Thank you katarina (hostess) and Adam (manager) for making it such a special evening. Xo
great atmosphere, good service, music was a bit loud so hard to have a conversation, but they kindly turned it down for us, so all good.
Did not feel rushed at all which i find uncommon in dc restaurants. Lovely staff and diverse brunch menu
I love this restaurant, and I would go there again, but things were off this time. The appetizer arrived with the entrees, and we were charged for a full bottle of wine, when we had ordered a half bottle. This was rectified, however. Still a great place to dine.
I give The Riggsby an A+...the chef prepares elegant yet satisfying food with extreme care. The staff, including our waiter, Karim and manager, Adam take the time to make sure your meal is a happy experience at every level. I highly recommend the apps we had: the lightly smoked trout had a delicate, fresh flavor and the jalapeno goat cheese cromesquis, although lightly breaded and fried weren't heavy and had just subtle hints of bacon and jam. Do not skip the homemade potato chips! The dip is to die for! We had room for the mains, even with a slice of the freshest bread imaginable! My housemade pasta with lobster was loaded with moist chunks of lobster. My husband's Wellington special was perfectly cooked, tender and subtly flavored so as not to detract from the beef. Believe it or not, we managed to eat two homemade desserts! The strawberry shortcake, prepared right at our table, featured a light warmed and buttery cake. The pot brownie sundae, filled with bits of crisp candy and molten sauce is a chocolate lover's dream come true! Make it a point to hit this place when in D.C.
Pricey, average American food - not worth visiting.
The experience was great. The service, friendliness and hospitality was phenomenal. It was just lovely. We will definitely be visiting this restaurant again.
You would never know you’re in a hotel at The Riggsby! Our food was pretty good but the service was a tad slow considering it wasn’t that busy when we got there. Overall, excellent neighborhood gem!
After a rocky previous visit to Riggsby, one of our favorite DC restaurants, we were rewarded with a great evening. The Riggsby wait staff and management redeemed themselves nobly.
I've been to the Riggsby before and had a wonderful time. However, this last time the kitchen messed up our food. I was also poured a wine that had turned and tasted horrible. My wife's lamb shank and my duck was like warm. It was a real disappointment.
Brunch menu is a little complicated - “champagne breakfast” just meant we bought a bottle of champagne and had to purchase additional juices separately. Received orange juice that was off and waitress treated us as though we were being overly fussy when we asked to return the juice. Overall, decent food but might be a little overrated.
Very good dinner, attentive service, club like atmosphere.
It was a spur of the moment lunch decision, but we enjoyed the Riggsby weekday lunch very much (we had been there for dinner previously. Our waitress was well-informed about the menu and wine selections. I enjoyed an entrée while my wife had soup and an appetizer; both were prepared perfectly and tasted great! We plan to return for weekend brunch and possibly a weekday breakfast as well. Both those menus looked attractive.
I ordered the Lobster pasta special, which was delicious, a good portion but pricey and a bit too cold for my taste. I think the my plate may have been sitting out a bit while the other plates for our party were prepared. Overall, the service was great and it has a cool, retro ambiance. Would go again for sure.
Food was good, service was beyond terrible. Likely to not return or recommend.
What a fantastic spot--stylish, wonderful food, interesting menu, cool bar, incredible service. We will definitely be back to try everything on the menu we missed because it was so hard to choose!
A sophisticated throwback to the 1950s, as it may have looked to people of some means. Oysters, iceberg lettuce wedge with blue cheese. Much of the menu is more modern and European inspired, but the core is American in style. The place was bustling, unusual for a hotel restaurant in a neighborhood with many choices. Our evening was on the pricey side, but maybe we just made the tempting choices.
We’d not been impressed the two times we had been for brunch, but a friend said we should give dinner a chance here. Our waiter was wonderful. The ambiance was good. The food was not that great, but the portions were decent. For the amount of money the entrees are, the food should taste better. Three of us (with one drink each), one appetizer to share, and one entree each, paid over $180. We live around the corner and would rather pay much less than that for the dozens of restaurants that are in the same neighborhood.
Had been on my list for some time and for good reason. The food/ambiance/service all first rate. Had Schnitzel and Chateaubriand on the menu that night -- who does that stuff anymore. Excellent. One sour note for me. There was a young man in the house that night in a wife beater tank top. Realize things are different these days but really!!
