What Insiders Are Saying
Attached to the Carlyle Hotel in DuPont, The Riggsby does everything “classic” extremely well.
I ordered the Lobster pasta special, which was delicious, a good portion but pricey and a bit too cold for my taste. I think the my plate may have been sitting out a bit while the other plates for our party were prepared. Overall, the service was great and it has a cool, retro ambiance. Would go again for sure.
What a fantastic spot--stylish, wonderful food, interesting menu, cool bar, incredible service. We will definitely be back to try everything on the menu we missed because it was so hard to choose!
A sophisticated throwback to the 1950s, as it may have looked to people of some means. Oysters, iceberg lettuce wedge with blue cheese. Much of the menu is more modern and European inspired, but the core is American in style. The place was bustling, unusual for a hotel restaurant in a neighborhood with many choices. Our evening was on the pricey side, but maybe we just made the tempting choices.
We’d not been impressed the two times we had been for brunch, but a friend said we should give dinner a chance here. Our waiter was wonderful. The ambiance was good. The food was not that great, but the portions were decent. For the amount of money the entrees are, the food should taste better. Three of us (with one drink each), one appetizer to share, and one entree each, paid over $180. We live around the corner and would rather pay much less than that for the dozens of restaurants that are in the same neighborhood.
Had been on my list for some time and for good reason. The food/ambiance/service all first rate. Had Schnitzel and Chateaubriand on the menu that night -- who does that stuff anymore. Excellent. One sour note for me. There was a young man in the house that night in a wife beater tank top. Realize things are different these days but really!!
Excellent excellent! Everyone from the bartenders to wait staff were fantastic and friendly and fun! Food was awesome! Paula was the best we appreciate all she did for us!
Great restaraunt and even better staff. The restaurant didn't seem vwry kid friendly at first bur definitely catered to my needs of having a 9 month old as well. All around great experience.
Really great dinner with clients. We enjoyed it. Thanks!
I love the vibe but frankly the food wasn't as hot as it should have been and our waiter disappeared at one point. Not the best visit I've had there.
We celebarated a family dinner together. The staff was wonderful to us - the food was great. We were with our mothers who are hard of hearing and they did great. We full enjoyed ourselves.
Excellent as always
Great food and service, but I thought it was a little too expensive. We paid $18 for a glass of wine- I felt that was way too high.
We absolutely love the Riggsby. We frequent the weekend brunch here. The mimosa box and half priced bubbles are a sure way to ensure that you enjoy your meal. The food is good. The breakfast burrito is huge but a great go to for food. The staff are always friendly and attentive. The restaurant decor is awesome. Whether it's just two or a group this place is a great brunch location.
We absolutely loved The Riggsby! We started at the bar and Nolan was great at suggesting cocktails and creating one's that suited our tastes. Sammy was amazing at explaining the dishes we asked about and because of his detail and passion for the food we took many of his suggestions. The Lamb Shank was a suggestion he made and I am happy to say that I am glad I ordered it! So succulent and seasoned perfectly... the meat literally fell off the bone! The other entrees ordered were the Veal Schnitzel special, the chicken and the pasta & clams. Portions were large so goodie bags went home with us. I would highly recommend The Riggsby and will definitely return!
Excellent food, service and ambiance. Definitely worth a try!
Gorgeous decor and speakeasy vibe. Went for brunch and omelet was “ok” . Have gone and ordered from dinner menu and had more tasty options. Great drinks/cocktails. They make a great gin martini.
Steak and eggs were over-cooked. Should’ve be medium but I got a medium-well. Good ambiance though
Excellent from cocktails to appetizers to entrees. So comfortable
Seems like it'd be better for drinks. Food was a little greasy for my taste and nothing spectacular, but definitely a good place and will probably go back!
Great spot for brunch! Plenty of options to choose from, and they even offer daily specials. The ambiance is great -- very open inside. The noise level never gets too much even though the tables are kind of close together.
It was overpriced for the quality of the meal. There are far better restaurants nearby charging half the price.
Our family of four dined the day after Valentines Day for our family celebration. Although parking was tricky on a Friday night, we enjoyed the key hole entry and the hostesses greeted us kindly. We had a wonderful round table in the corner with a great view of the room. The restaurants is beautifully decorated. We ordered rounds of wine and martinis which were delicious but we did send back one glass of wine for lipstick on the glass. We started with the deviled eggs, chips and croquettes which we thought were delicious. Our entrees took a bit of time to come out but we thought the food was specially prepared and tasty. For dessert, we ordered the cookies, chocolate cake and brownie in a pot. The brownie and cookies were our favorites. Overall, we loved our experience and look forward to coming back.
Nice ppl and good food. Overall good setting and nice vibe
This was the perfect place for Valentine’s dinner. In the past we had gone to Nora’s but now that she has closed The Riggsby will be our new go to.
This was our first time dining at the Riggsby. At first, our waiter was friendly and attentive. He became a little less engaged when I asked about modifying the chopped salad (which they botched) and my husband didn’t like his first glass of wine. After our initial drink and dinner order, our waiter disappeared-literally. Our food was delivered and he never checked in to find out if we needed another drink or to ask us how everything was. When we finally tracked him down to get the check, my husband expressed his disappointment in the service and told the waiter we probably would not be back. The waiter had no response.
Food was poor. I had been here before and it was good and the restaurant was busy. Today it was empty and food was terrible.
Horrible food and service
Somewhat formal and upscale without feeling stodgy. Really terrific duck dish! Great service.
Food was great but service was kinda slow and it took them 10 min to seat us even with a reservation.
Great food and service was amazing.
Great establishment. My go-to for any small events.
It was my birthday and they served my whole party champagne to celebrate. We didn’t notify the restaurant, the waiter overheard our conversation and presented a lovely surprise. It was a wonderful experience. So thoughtful and gracious.
The food was fresh and taste , service was very friendly felt relaxed my husband and I enjoyed good time and good food lunch there would come back again.
Rude from the blonde hostess down to Christop, the server. Food cold and needed seasoning. Literally 6 tables were occupied. Overpriced for the value of it all. Will not be back.
Had the deviled eggs (3 for $11) not worth it. Tiniest bit of chicken skin on it.
Morning after Sandwich with breakfast potatoes, cold.
Duck Hash, no caramelized onions, they were just sautéed, huge chunks of peppers, raw. Toasted wheat bread, cold.
No chance for dessert because he cleared our plates and dropped off the check. Rude.
The service was attentive without being over-bearing, and extremely welcoming and pleasant throughout (despite our arriving late for a reservation and getting started close to closing time). The food was extremely delicious, fresh, creatively juxtaposed and well-seasoned -- including the free bread. The two mixed drinks we ordered weren't impressive, but everything else was great enough that The Riggsby has new lifelong fans. I can't stop thinking about the shrimp cocktail. I look forward to visiting again and again.
Awesome , always a good time there.. food was good but the cut and cook of the steak could of been better
Wonderful dining experience with exceptional food
The service was great. Food was hit or miss. The lobster bisque was great and so was the filet. One person in our group ordered the pork loin and it was awful. The pork loin medallions were more like pork chips, so thin and dry. This is not an exaggeration. Other than that bad meal, everything else was good.
Restaurant Week food value was fantastic but $4 for a cup of decaf coffee? It's a quibble, yes, but that really ends the night on a sour note.
We went during Restaurant Week on Tom Sietsema’s recommendation and overall it was good. We had the lobster bisque which was great and my chocolate tort was also but the pork main dish was really overcooked and tasteless. The meat was like shoe leather. Our waitress offered to let us speak to the manager but we declined.
