What Insiders Are Saying
Attached to the Carlyle Hotel in DuPont, The Riggsby does everything “classic” extremely well.
Excellent from cocktails to appetizers to entrees. So comfortable
Seems like it'd be better for drinks. Food was a little greasy for my taste and nothing spectacular, but definitely a good place and will probably go back!
Great spot for brunch! Plenty of options to choose from, and they even offer daily specials. The ambiance is great -- very open inside. The noise level never gets too much even though the tables are kind of close together.
It was overpriced for the quality of the meal. There are far better restaurants nearby charging half the price.
Our family of four dined the day after Valentines Day for our family celebration. Although parking was tricky on a Friday night, we enjoyed the key hole entry and the hostesses greeted us kindly. We had a wonderful round table in the corner with a great view of the room. The restaurants is beautifully decorated. We ordered rounds of wine and martinis which were delicious but we did send back one glass of wine for lipstick on the glass. We started with the deviled eggs, chips and croquettes which we thought were delicious. Our entrees took a bit of time to come out but we thought the food was specially prepared and tasty. For dessert, we ordered the cookies, chocolate cake and brownie in a pot. The brownie and cookies were our favorites. Overall, we loved our experience and look forward to coming back.
Nice ppl and good food. Overall good setting and nice vibe
This was the perfect place for Valentine’s dinner. In the past we had gone to Nora’s but now that she has closed The Riggsby will be our new go to.
This was our first time dining at the Riggsby. At first, our waiter was friendly and attentive. He became a little less engaged when I asked about modifying the chopped salad (which they botched) and my husband didn’t like his first glass of wine. After our initial drink and dinner order, our waiter disappeared-literally. Our food was delivered and he never checked in to find out if we needed another drink or to ask us how everything was. When we finally tracked him down to get the check, my husband expressed his disappointment in the service and told the waiter we probably would not be back. The waiter had no response.
Food was poor. I had been here before and it was good and the restaurant was busy. Today it was empty and food was terrible.
Horrible food and service
Somewhat formal and upscale without feeling stodgy. Really terrific duck dish! Great service.
Food was great but service was kinda slow and it took them 10 min to seat us even with a reservation.
Great food and service was amazing.
Great establishment. My go-to for any small events.
It was my birthday and they served my whole party champagne to celebrate. We didn’t notify the restaurant, the waiter overheard our conversation and presented a lovely surprise. It was a wonderful experience. So thoughtful and gracious.
The food was fresh and taste , service was very friendly felt relaxed my husband and I enjoyed good time and good food lunch there would come back again.
Rude from the blonde hostess down to Christop, the server. Food cold and needed seasoning. Literally 6 tables were occupied. Overpriced for the value of it all. Will not be back.
Had the deviled eggs (3 for $11) not worth it. Tiniest bit of chicken skin on it.
Morning after Sandwich with breakfast potatoes, cold.
Duck Hash, no caramelized onions, they were just sautéed, huge chunks of peppers, raw. Toasted wheat bread, cold.
No chance for dessert because he cleared our plates and dropped off the check. Rude.
The service was attentive without being over-bearing, and extremely welcoming and pleasant throughout (despite our arriving late for a reservation and getting started close to closing time). The food was extremely delicious, fresh, creatively juxtaposed and well-seasoned -- including the free bread. The two mixed drinks we ordered weren't impressive, but everything else was great enough that The Riggsby has new lifelong fans. I can't stop thinking about the shrimp cocktail. I look forward to visiting again and again.
Awesome , always a good time there.. food was good but the cut and cook of the steak could of been better
Wonderful dining experience with exceptional food
The service was great. Food was hit or miss. The lobster bisque was great and so was the filet. One person in our group ordered the pork loin and it was awful. The pork loin medallions were more like pork chips, so thin and dry. This is not an exaggeration. Other than that bad meal, everything else was good.
Restaurant Week food value was fantastic but $4 for a cup of decaf coffee? It's a quibble, yes, but that really ends the night on a sour note.
We went during Restaurant Week on Tom Sietsema’s recommendation and overall it was good. We had the lobster bisque which was great and my chocolate tort was also but the pork main dish was really overcooked and tasteless. The meat was like shoe leather. Our waitress offered to let us speak to the manager but we declined.
Great spot for Power Breakfast. Great setting and very friendly staff.
One of the nicest restaurants we have been to in DC. The food and atmosphere were fabulous and we felt transported to a bygone era. Cozy for a cold einter’s night. The roasted chicken was just amazing.
I was very disappointed in the Riggsby this time around. It was MLK holiday, but the restaurant was not packed and there just seemed to be one waiter, a food runner and a manager handling the full restaurant. The lunch was interminable as service was much too slow. I then had to send my food order back when the brioche on which the egg salad tartine was served was stale and hard. The manager was profusely apologetic and swapped it out for a softer, brioche-like hamburger bun but overall the dish was disappointing. I also didn't care for the taste of the egg salad sandwich (though I love the deviled eggs - it was supposed to be the same filling) so I wouldn't order it again. I've never had a bad meal here, whether brunch or dinner, so this last experience was particularly disappointing. I won't be going back anytime soon with the hopes they upgrade their service and kitchen staff to deliver on the reputation they had developed. It's one of my favorite dining rooms in DC - it would be a shame to lose it.
Love the ambiance and decor. Went for Restaurant Week lunch and the food was great.
I visited for restaurant week. It was ok. The food and service were mediocre.
Went for restaurant week. Water glass was never empty and the dishes I tried off the restaurant week menu were well cooked and presented. Everyone in my party really enjoyed the ambiance as well.
Every thing was just ok. Orders came out wrong more than once. Had cocktails at the bar before our reservation. That didnt go well. Bartender got order wrong even though request was placed twice (he kept asking as if we hadn't place the order. Then he got it wrong just the same.) In dining room food was ok, but not fabulous. Two orders came out wrong here, too. Service was uneven. Most people were quite nice, but not hugely attentive. It was restaurant week. Maybe they were burned out?
We were fortunate to pick The Riggsby for a birthday celebration dinner that coincided with DC Restaurant Week. We loved the restaurant, the mix of patrons, excellent service and superb food. We stayed with the RW menu, which offered ample choice in each category. My lobster bisque appetizer was perfect, with a light flavorful silky broth and small bits of lobster. For entrees, I had the skate while my husband had the salmon. Loved the skate! My first experience with it, and I am now a fan of this light, slightly salty but delicate seafood. The salmon was good, but not memorable. We both thoroughly enjoyed the vegetable dishes, and I was super impressed with the cauliflower. Desserts were gone as well. Sam, our waiter and advisor was very knowledgeable about the dishes, preparation and pairings, and was attentive to us throughout the meal. The Riggsby also has great cocktails!
Perfect cozy restaurant for a nice dinner. A little off the beaten path in a hotel, this restaurant had excellent service and food to match.
Charming place with lots to look at and good food. Our server was very nice and capable. She had too many tables and so we waited around a lot. But the food is pretty darn good. So, there's that. I'd go back... lotsa good stuff on the menu I'd like to try. I had the deviled eggs: B+ and the burger: B. The pot brownie was super decadent and huge: A. It was pretty loud (spirited) on Sunday for brunch, but it's fun.
Really enjoyed the Riggsby. The staff was exceptionally well trained and very nice. It can get noisy. The hamburger is excellent and the eggs Benedict is delicious. Would definitely recommend to others.
My husband and I had a reservation for brunch and only a few tables were occupied at the time we arrived. However, the service was extremely slow. It was Restaurant Week, so I wanted to take advantage of the special, but the options were very limited. I did enjoy the chopped salad very much- with the tasty homemade Thousand Island dressing. My husband opted for the Eggs Benedict, which was not an option on the 3 course special. It was described as having prosciutto on it, but it was a very bland and boiled looking ham. He couldn't eat it. Overall, this experience was a big disappointment.
Went for birthday brunch. Atmosphere is fun, space has great details. Selected from the Restaurant Week menu, the food was wonderful, flavorful and plenty to split between 2. Service was attentive. Would be excited to return and recommend.
the food great...best french toast ever and the service was exceptional. from the manager to the server.
Food was pretty average and service wasn’t good.
Fun, busy, loud, great ambiance, white tablecloths, very attractive and elegant but not stuffy. Good food and excellent service. Located within a small hotel in a mostly residential/embassy area. It has a “different feel” that we liked. We very much enjoyed our late (9pm) dinner and will definitely go back.
Solid food, nothing spectacular. Good find for restaurant week. Cool vibe. Food was not out of this world by any means, but nothing bad.
