The Restaurant at Wente Vineyards Ratings and Reviews
We sat at the bar for a drink first. Top notch bar service!
We were seated and the service was excellent!
My girlfriend had the butternut squash ravioli with truffle and I had the tasting menu. The highlight was the butternut squash ravioli for both of us! Excellent dish! We had the beet salad which was also excellent but a bit heavy on the rich goat cheese. The tasting menu was good with one minor issue with an undercooked flank steak dish but it was corrected quickly (and they gave us a free dessert). The dessert that came with the tasting menu was the chocolate mouse pictured below and was top notch! The other dessert was a very pretty panna cotta dish but the gelatin was just too over powering. It needed more fresh ingredients to cut the gelatin or lighten it, like some fresh fruit, and certainly they need to remove the extra gelatin on the plate used as a garnish.
The interior and ambiance were delightful. We'd definitely go back again.
As always, Wente provides excellence in wine, food, service and ambiance. If you want a special treat away from the normal restaurants, give Wente a try. My Husband and I have been coming here for years and are never disappointed. Become a Wente Entertainment Club Member and start enjoying the extra’s when you visit. The card is well worth the price if you make Wente one of your favorite Restaurant destinations. 😊
Entirely unsatisfactory this time. Ordered the prix-fixe for brunch, started with a sweet muffin, we all decided to save that for last, which we mentioned to the waiter as he brought them. Then we waited. And waited. And waited. 45 minutes after sitting I had to go to the front desk to ask for our salad course. Finally arrives. Cleared. Then we wait, and wait, and wait for our mains. Its now one hour and twenty minutes later and we are getting our eggs. 1:20 for eggs! By then we had more or less finished our wine on an empty stomach, which made us feel a little blah, and we had pretty much lost our appetite. Left us feeling grumpy the rest of the day, for 300+ for 4 people. Never again. To top it off, we wandered into the winery building after since that's where the member tastings were last time and were more or less told we were trespassing on private property and to leave immediately. Went to the tasting room and it reeked of stale sweat. Picked up shipment, got home, terminated membership.
I was there one Saturday to propose to my GF. I called very last minute and everybody was so nice and helpful and totally helped me out with everything. Staff was super friendly and very low key with keeping everything a secret. It was a amazing experience and i totally recommend this place (tasting and restaurant) to everybody!
Service is excellent, ambiance is also excellent. You should go during daylight to take full advantage of the vineyard setting. Food ranges to quite good (appetizers) to just fair (my main entree consisted of a huge slab of meat placed over a small bed of vegetables).
Decided to try Wente again after a few years. I’ve always liked the atmosphere but the food has disappointed me every time I go. This was no exception. Pork chop was 1/3 fat and the steak tartare was terrible. The chef needs to pay attention to what goes out of the kitchen.
The food was great. It was my wife's birthday and they presented her with a menu that said Happy Birthday. The dessert had Happy Birthday written on the plate and we were given a complementary tasting of Wente's sparkling wine. It was a very nice evening. Our server, Marc, was very attentive. He was at our table checking on us at just the right times.
Wente never disappoints. I have been eating there for years and often joke it is the best restaurant in San Jose...because we don't mind the drive to eat there. Great wines, lovely setting, excellent service, but then the best part is the food. Quality, seasonal ingredients at every course. I will say we do miss the lamb pastrami appetizer which is what would bring us to the restaurant monthly, but the crab toast we had this last Sunday was excellent. I also had the white bean and chorizo soup which came out looking like a thick tomato bisque (it was good, but I wasn't expecting that) and my husband's hanger steak came with lentils instead of the creamy mashed potatoes he was waiting for since that is how it was described. It really doesn't matter what you order because everything that comes out is delicious. If I had to find a criticism it would be the price. My soup was $16 (but worth every penny it was so good), and my husband's steak at lunch without sides was $40.....gone from the menu was a sandwich or burger option and they stopped serving lunch during the week.
Disappointing experience. We arrived early and they would not seat us. The table we were given was vacant the entire time they made us wait. There many tables open. We were seated in a drafty area and it was cold. My husbands chicken came raw. The outside was browned and it was extremely raw on the inside throughout. They took it back and it took another 20 minutes to get his food. Needless to say everyone else was done. We saw numerous of the same meal delivered to other tables while he waited and waited for his meal. We have been there many times. We’re not going back any more. Average food for an expensive price not as good as it used to be.
We had a very enjoyable dining experience. The service was excellent and the ambiance was perfect for our 46th anniversary celebration. We enjoyed the dungeness crab toasts as a preview to our filet entree. Not big dessert eaters, but the wait staff surprised us with a scoop of vanilla ice cream served on a plate inscribed with Happy 46th Anniversary in chocolate.
Celebrating our First Date Anniversary. We eat here a few times a year and have always had good experiences. Including the concert series. The setting is warm, lovely without being too stuffy feeling. We eat on the earlier side so we can see the outdoors, which is lovely and get to see the setting sun with the view and lights. We always find the food very good but this evening the food was above and beyond excellent. The service, with Mark our waiter, was also way, way above and beyond. A super experience!
When we arrive at 5:15pm on Monday night, the restaurant had a very odd smell---something between sewage and Clorox.
Food was mediocre, not terribly warm when it reached our table. Scallops were very salty. I have enjoyed many meals at Wente in the past that were outstanding and truly a memorable dining experience. Something was really missing. Monday night was simply mediocre at best.
Great food and great service, only complaint was I table was next to a large piece of furniture, one of those table that some restaurants stuff in to take full advantage of the space. My wife and I both had the pork belly to start with and the filet . Taste is so fresh and well paired.
Our family gathered here for a post-holiday get together. Most had never been before and all were impressed with the the food, service, wine, and ambience.
Wente has been a favorite of mine as a place to lunch with friends especially in warmer weather outside. It is always a pleasure to linger over the wonderful food.
We especially enjoyed the fish appetizer, the cheese and charcuterie plate, and pork chop, but everything was tasty.
We celebrated our anniversary at Wente for the 2nd year in a row. This time we had the tasting menu. The food and the wine pairing were good with a couple of exceptions. I was not fond of 1 of the wines and the dessert was a bit heavy for our taste. The pork tenderloin, which was not on the main menu, but only with the tasting menu, was beyond fabulous. Great stuff.
I think that on Christmas Eve there should be other choices than breakfast items. I realize that this year it fell on a Sunday, but consideration should have been given to this being a special day and more entree choices should have been served. I was disappointed in the menu.
My boyfriend and I came here for a pre Christmas dinner. Ready to spend money and have a great romantic night. Instead it was one mess up after another. Service was definitely lacking and rushed as we seemed to get whatever left over time our server could muster. Bread came out late, without oil and butter to which during our meal our server noticed and asked if we wanted some. Then forgot to get it and we had to ask. This was important because my meal was inedible. My wine came just before my meal. I could clearly see the bartender look at it and stare into the distance several times while it just sat at the bar ready for pick up. My pork chop came out raw and cold in which the server agreed it was under done. It was basically a huge chunk of fat and bone on to of cauliflower that was barely cooked. I was honestly disgusted by it and lost my appetite. We took it home but it was thrown away. Everything we were hoping to order that night ,they were out of and what we ended up with was less than good. Over all it’s a pretty place but if service and food doesn’t match the price point I will never go back. So sad, I had high hopes for this place.
The food and service were very good but I think they are using deceptive practices to up sell. I ordered a Caesar salad and the waiter asked if I wanted anchovies. Sure, why not. We both ordered steaks and the waiter asked if we wanted truffles on them. Again, sure why not. The bill came and the anchovies were and additional $4.00. The truffles, two very small dishes on the side were an additional $20.00 each. No mention on the menu, not a word from our server that adding mushrooms was going to almost double the price. I would not discourage you from going, but if the server asks "do you want" ask how much it will add so you do not get burned like I did.
