The Restaurant at Wente Vineyards Ratings and Reviews
Celebrating our First Date Anniversary. We eat here a few times a year and have always had good experiences. Including the concert series. The setting is warm, lovely without being too stuffy feeling. We eat on the earlier side so we can see the outdoors, which is lovely and get to see the setting sun with the view and lights. We always find the food very good but this evening the food was above and beyond excellent. The service, with Mark our waiter, was also way, way above and beyond. A super experience!
When we arrive at 5:15pm on Monday night, the restaurant had a very odd smell---something between sewage and Clorox.
Food was mediocre, not terribly warm when it reached our table. Scallops were very salty. I have enjoyed many meals at Wente in the past that were outstanding and truly a memorable dining experience. Something was really missing. Monday night was simply mediocre at best.
Great food and great service, only complaint was I table was next to a large piece of furniture, one of those table that some restaurants stuff in to take full advantage of the space. My wife and I both had the pork belly to start with and the filet . Taste is so fresh and well paired.
Our family gathered here for a post-holiday get together. Most had never been before and all were impressed with the the food, service, wine, and ambience.
Wente has been a favorite of mine as a place to lunch with friends especially in warmer weather outside. It is always a pleasure to linger over the wonderful food.
We especially enjoyed the fish appetizer, the cheese and charcuterie plate, and pork chop, but everything was tasty.
We celebrated our anniversary at Wente for the 2nd year in a row. This time we had the tasting menu. The food and the wine pairing were good with a couple of exceptions. I was not fond of 1 of the wines and the dessert was a bit heavy for our taste. The pork tenderloin, which was not on the main menu, but only with the tasting menu, was beyond fabulous. Great stuff.
I think that on Christmas Eve there should be other choices than breakfast items. I realize that this year it fell on a Sunday, but consideration should have been given to this being a special day and more entree choices should have been served. I was disappointed in the menu.
My boyfriend and I came here for a pre Christmas dinner. Ready to spend money and have a great romantic night. Instead it was one mess up after another. Service was definitely lacking and rushed as we seemed to get whatever left over time our server could muster. Bread came out late, without oil and butter to which during our meal our server noticed and asked if we wanted some. Then forgot to get it and we had to ask. This was important because my meal was inedible. My wine came just before my meal. I could clearly see the bartender look at it and stare into the distance several times while it just sat at the bar ready for pick up. My pork chop came out raw and cold in which the server agreed it was under done. It was basically a huge chunk of fat and bone on to of cauliflower that was barely cooked. I was honestly disgusted by it and lost my appetite. We took it home but it was thrown away. Everything we were hoping to order that night ,they were out of and what we ended up with was less than good. Over all it’s a pretty place but if service and food doesn’t match the price point I will never go back. So sad, I had high hopes for this place.
The food and service were very good but I think they are using deceptive practices to up sell. I ordered a Caesar salad and the waiter asked if I wanted anchovies. Sure, why not. We both ordered steaks and the waiter asked if we wanted truffles on them. Again, sure why not. The bill came and the anchovies were and additional $4.00. The truffles, two very small dishes on the side were an additional $20.00 each. No mention on the menu, not a word from our server that adding mushrooms was going to almost double the price. I would not discourage you from going, but if the server asks "do you want" ask how much it will add so you do not get burned like I did.
I've been to the restaurant many times without any problems. This most recent time food was very good as usual but service was slow. Not sure if it was new waiter or other problem (it took over 3 hours from start to finish). Wente did follow up on this review, which I greatly appreciated as it shows they care. I've always loved it out there and will try them again.
Chose this place mid day and booked a reservation. We arrived on time and was immediately seated. Jason was our waiter and helped us out with all of our dinner questions. My wife is gluten free and he explained all the choices and options that were available to her and also what the chef could rearrange to make her happy. When they said the pork chop was worth every penny, they were not joking. It was absolutely amazing, and the flavor was out of this world. My wife's filet was cooked to her liking (med/well) and was still tender as could be. We paired with a Wente pino wine and at the end of our dinner the flavors we could still taste in our mouths made us make note that we will be making the hour and fifteen minute drive from home again to dine here!
A mixture of pluses and minuses. The lunch menu offered very few healthy options for non red meat eaters, but the vegetarian scramble that came with diced potatoes - and nothing else - was very good. Home baked cranberry-orange muffins @ $10. each were optional. The restaurant is pretty. Lovely views. The service was good. The bathroom needs serious updating. Later we returned for a quick bite. Although the butternut squash soup was delicious, it was only lukewarm and on the pricey side at $15. The homemade bread that was only brought when we asked for it was wonderful.
My daughter and I decided to try the wine pairing menu. We were so gelad we did. The dinner was so delicious- from for the pork belly and roasted beets, the butternut squash risotto with truffles( done withna light hand and absolutely delicious) to the perfectly prepared pork tenderloin. Every course was seasoned perfectly and the selected wines on point. Our waitress was fantastic- . We will definitely come back again and again.
Extremely disappointed. Usually the food and the service is great. Tonight the server seemed disinterested in our experience. And the food was all room temperature and lacking flavor. Just tasted salty. Unfortunately for the price you pay at Wente we can’t see going back again. It’s unfortunate because typically it is a jewel in the valley.
We always enjoy the beautiful main dining room, great service, and very good food. We prefer to come for lunch or brunch so we can also enjoy the scenery outside the restaurant. It's so disappointing that they don't open on Mondays through Thursdays anymore.
We eat here quite often and enjoy the fact that the staff, while all friendly and professional, have also mostly been there for a long time. The menu changes regularly and this time we really enjoyed their take on fried chicken (the accompanying Ranch style dressing for dipping seemed a bit out of place) but truffle honey or such would have made it epic! The steak tartare and crispy shrimp (chipotle?) starters were wonderful and seating outside is always a plus in November!?
I’ve eaten at Wende for many years and had exceptional service, which is why this evening was such a shock. I literally could not get our water over to our table, and had to get up 5 times during dinner to ask for service of one kind or another. Our reservation was for 8, but we arrived and were seated early (7:45). We did not get our dinner served until 9 p.m. I had to ask for everything from water, to silverware, to order a drink and to ask for the temperature to be adjusted. No one ever came over to ask how our meal was, and when we finally got our bill, it was incorrect. I had to flag down someone again to get our waiter. Honestly, he appeared high, and his indifference was verging on rude. The food was its usual reliably great quality, even if it took 75 minutes to get. Also, it was my daughter’s birthday, and they did comp the desert, which was nice. I hate to be stingy on tips - I know its all pooled, so it won’t really effect him, especially during the holidays, but this fail was so over the top. Granted our reservation was obviously the last, and we were the last out of the restaurants (not entirely our fault as it took so long to get our food), but if you cannot accommodate customers at a certain reservation time, I suggest not making those reservation times available.
Every time that we’ve dined here we have had an exceptional experience. The staff is always very friendly and accommodating and the food and the wine menu are fantastic. Great place for a date or special occasion and I think it’s safe to say, this is probably the finest restaurant in Livermore when looking for fine dining.
