The Restaurant at The Mandolay
All steaks served with chips, grilled tomato, Portobello mushroom & Surrey watercress
Served with Applewood cheese, baby gem lettuce, tomato, dill gherkin, homemade burger relish and chips
The food we had was good, the only drawback is that it had nothing to do with the menu available here. We went for dinner and they had grilled sirloin steak and burger. As a main, they also had few courses, such as fish and chips and traditional pub food. Again, nothing like lobster, quail etc as described in the menu here. The food was not bad, but clearly not the fine dining experience we were looking for. I suggest they update their menu here.
Menu was totally different and we had to wait more than 30 min for the starters
Very friendly bar staff and lovely waitress. Great food. Lovely wine, Berry Bros selection first rate.
Very attentive staff and an enjoyable afternoon ... however the bread could've been fresher ( sandwiches ).. loved the tea menu and the scones
Good service, very helpful with wine selection and during the dinner, a bit pricey, good food for a special occasion.
Whilst the food was good the restaurant was woefully understaffed. The wine list was extensive but I had initially booked at table for 4 at 8pm. They rang to say they had a large party in at 7.30 could we make it 8.30 - OK. We didn't order until after 9 and didn't finish the meal until closer to 11.30. Much too long waiting for our food. The ambience was sterile and impersonal. It was a typical hotel restaurant with little to recommend it.
Very disappointing never again.
Scallops were overcooked, ordered two fillet steaks medium and they arrived rare ,they were taken away without an apology , and we had to wait 15 minutes whilst they were sliced into smaller pieces and cooked they didn't even make new ones the steak was also very chewy for a fillet steak. Which the waitress told us was normal for 36 day aged fillet (interesting).
My wife and daughter ate their food whilst we waited for ours.
No apology for keeping us waiting for the food and no offer of a an appeasement/discount nothing, worst service I have ever experienced at a two rosette restaurant .
And it's not as though they were busy
Just the four of us in the whole restaurant.
Paid £200 for a terrible meal and experience then left.
I am leaving this review to warn others and not to benefit me in anyway , as I will never return .
Booked in advance for a saturday night. The restaurant called 2 hours before the scheduled reservation to tell us that our reservation was canceled. I've never had a restaurant cancel a reservation. First time for everything I guesss
The food was really good and we both had a great night. We both had scallops to start followed by steak. The steaks were both cooked to perfection. Our only minor comment would be that whilst they were well cooked, the scallops felt a little stingy for the money, compared to what we have enjoyed at similar restaurants. It was also a shame the main restaurant wasn't very busy (there were only two other couples) but it still had a nice setting/atmosphere and it was a really nice meal. I guess it is just a bit out of the town centre and misses out on some of that trade. We would definitely go back.
This could be a wonderful restaurant if only they could maintain some wonderful service
On the last two occasions we have dined here , several months apart, the length of time to be served at each stage of the evening is far too long
Extremely unattentive service. Dull.
We visited the restaurant on Valentine's Day. We are not residents of Guildford, so we selected the venue on-line and were not disappointed. The special occasion menu was well presented and of very good quality, featuring octopus carpaccio (something I have not seen in the UK before) and including an extra sorbet course. The dining room was quite full but airy the service was attentive and the restaurant was clean and well laid out.
A very good experience overall and worth a visit if you are in Guildford - the restaurant is located in the centre of town and easily accessible.
This restaurant has very good. It has a wonderful bar and restaurant with very modern decor. The staff are all very tentative and professional. The food was excellent! the price of the food did differ alot £9 for a risotto compared to a £27 tuna steak. This restaurant is somewhere in between 'high street' and 'elite'. A very enjoyable experience.
Took my girlfriend there for dinner. A smart place, the food was simply outstanding and our table waitress was lovely.
The bar staff however were different. Firstly they got the drink order wrong and when they brought the second drink practically threw the glass on the table without a word. They also ran into each other sending drinks flying. Also the food took ages to arrive. Fortunately we were in no rush and it was well worth the wait.
They had a large table next door to deal with though so I'm sure that was the exception.
Overall we'll go there again happily.
I booked for my birthday meal and requested a booth which we were given which was great. We found the food to be good quality and tasty, but were disappointed with some of the portion sizes and one meal was very overcooked. However when we complained about both points we were given a discount which was appreciated and the staff were very helpful and polite. There was also a lack of desserts and starters available, despite being on the menu, which was disappointing but the staff did offer alternatives. I think they may have had a food delivery issue or something as other friends have said they have always had good food when they've been there, hence me recommending it.
Good food and service. Would go back and recommend.
I really enjoyed my evening in the restaurant at m.Brasserie and Bar at the Mandolay Hotel in Guildford. The wine was very reasonably priced, the food was good, the service - very good but as it was a Monday evening we were the ONLY people in the restaurant and when I go next time (and I will go again), I will eat in the bar where the ambience, even on a Monday, was not so lonely.
We really enjoyed our evening at m. Brasserie and Bar in Guildford. Although a little quiet, the bar and restaurant were really comfortable and welcoming. The food was excellent, we all had 3 courses and everyone's meals were great. The service was friendly too. Overall it was a really good evening and we'd definitely go back.
We went to m.Brasserie and Bar to eat in the restaurant. The food was very good, there was a very good choice of dishes and the size of the portions were enormous! Our waitress was excellent. We will go again, perhaps not on a Monday by choice, Monday's are generally quiet everywhere.
m.Brasserie and bar, Guildford
Ate late afternoon/early Sunday evening, so were the only customers. Food and service excellent and with more customers we would not have felt so dwarfed by the room. Would certainly recommend and shall return.
m.Brasserie and Bar, Guildford. Great decor and ambience, friendly and efficient service, good menu and value for money. Would definitely go back.
Always had fantastic food & service at m brasserie and this was no exception.
We enjoyed the atmosphere, chic surroundings, low lighting and our cosy table. The three members of staff who served us were friendly and attentive.
Food was good though my starter of 3 medium sized scallops @ £7.65 was expensive. My partner's baked camembert was better value. Main courses were well cooked & presented though I guess my lamb may have been sat around for a while before I received it as it was warm not hot.
Would go back but after trying a few alternatives first.
Our 2nd visit here - waitstaff very welcoming and excellent service. Food was generous, although not haut cuisine - but then they don't profess to be. Neverthelesss very well prepared and the red snapper starter went down well.
On the negative side - parking is abysmal as clearly there is insufficient parking even at 7 p.m.
This was our second visit to m. Brasserie & Bar in Guildford. The decor is contemporary but pleasant however the food & service are excellent far surpassing what one might exdpect based upon first impressions. We will definitely return when in Guildford as our first choice venue.
m. Brasserie and Bar, Guildford was a pleasant surprise, the friendly staff and lovely décor complimented the nice food which were good sized portions. We ate here on a Wednesday and the place was almost empty but would definitely come again as the service was excellent and a good place to relax with family or friends.
We had a small meal but it was delicious and attractively presented.
M Brasserie in Guildford was extremely quiet for a sunny Sunday lunch, we had the place to ourselves for most of the time we were there. Service was very good, although there was the slightly embarrassing situation of being asked to fill out a sheet for the 25% discount despite having booked on here already. Food was adequate but slightly bland, not really worth full price.
Friendly staff, great selection on the menu and the food cooked extremely well.
As petty as it sounds, the lights they had were hanging balls that dimmed on and off, a little off putting after a while!
I would definitelly go back and recomend.
Good food, French hints to the menu. Excellent, attentive service and pleasant decor. We ate on a Wednesday night, few other diners present - would try on a Friday / Saturday for more atmosphere.
Great food and great service
Not a particularly great experience, food OK, but priced extra at any given opportunity. Very empty despite being in the middle of lunch.
The m. Brasseria and Bar had a promising menu how the food tasted fairly adequate. The decor was very nice however the atmosphere was lacking.
Brilliant atmosphere, food and service
Very nice restaurant next to the bar in the Mandolay Hotel, Guildford. Both had lovely decor and a good atmosphere. Service was good, although the restaurant wasn't busy when we were there. Food was excellent - our group had the fillet steak, sea bass and rack of lamb which were all delicious. Would definitely recommend a visit.
Food at m. Brasserie in Guildford was very good and accompanied by an attentive service. There was a lack of ambience; perhaps due to being a Wednesday evening and quiet. KE
Really enjoyed a meal at M. Brasserie and Bar in Guildford. Food excellent - duck perfectly cooked - beautiful surroundings - extremely friendly and helpful staff. Would certainly recommend.
slightly disappointed with the meal we had at the M bar and Brasserie in Guildford on Saturday night. The restaurant was very quiet, with none of the ambience we have previously enjoyed. I was suprised at how limited the menu has become compared to previous visits. The service was effecient, but we felt the food quality had declined somewhat since previous visits. We took advantage of the 25% off food offer, but did not feel the overall experience would have warranted full price or another visit
m. Brasserie, Guildford. A surprisingly good value meal at the top of Guildford highstreet. Two hard working Docs from Guildford Hospital were well satisfied with a midwweek jaunt to m. Brasserie. It was Steaks all round, well cooked to order, superbly presented and with unusually decent fries and sides. Very nice modern decor, the run through from bar to restaurant making it ideal for a full evening as well as just eats. Not the cheapest, but certainly value for money.
m. Brasserie and Bar
Food truly excellent, the mussels with coriander and coconut were absolutely amazing. Meat cooked to perfection. The service was top quality. Altogether a terrific experience marred only by the ubiquitous piped music. Why, oh why?
