The Restaurant at Alderbrook
The interior setting of The Restaurant at Alderbrook takes its inspiration from the outdoors with warm colors of chocolate brown and sage green representing the gardens and lawn of the resort. Floor-to-ceiling windows and multi-levels amplify views of the brilliant shore and snow-capped peaks of the Olympic Mountains.
The cuisine showcases local seafood harvested from Puget Sound and Hood Canal. After all, our shores are encrusted with oysters, our docks lined with mussels, and our sea teems with salmon.
All was well with the exception of Opentable. There was no record of our reservation so we were not able to be placed by the window on our anniversary.
As for the restaurant it was very good. Great service and great food with a touch of originality. Would definitely return.
We waited 5 mins with no host at the front. SEVERAL staff members walked by and saw us there. Finally we asked if we could just sit. The hostess was stocking a cupboard that we could see. Others walked in and walked out. Some seated themselves. We made sure to say we had a reservation. We got a mail later from open table saying we were a no show!!!
The food was ok (not as great as dinner the night before) the server disappeared for a while and we had to flag someone down to help us get the bill. Took them a while to figure out how to enter the passport card...
The atmosphere, the service, and food was FABULOUS, could not been more pleased. Will definitely be back to enjoy once again
Joyce made the meal very enjoyable. She was very knowledgeable about the wine that we selected and made us feel very welcome. She was very engaging and professional at the same time. You could tell that she knows what she is doing.
My crab salad was one of the best I have ever had and my mom's fish and chips were excellent. On the other hand, my husband's reuben sandwich could have used more sauerkraut.
We were celebrating my mom's 90 birthday and she was surprised with a birthday dessert that was very delicious, at no extra charge. That was very nice of you to do that.
We are coming for Thanksgiving brunch and looking forward to it!
The two of us had a lovely lunch at the Restaurant at Alderbrook. We started by getting seated at the windows overlooking Hood Canal as we had requested and ordering a glass of a delightful Chardonnay for my friend and iced tea for me. We decided to share a beet salad first. It was made with both golden beets and red beets, accompanied with micro greens, sliced almonds, goat cheese crumbles, and a light balsamic dressing. Very good! My friend ordered a beef melt sandwich with garlic fries. I ordered the halibut sandwich with regular fries. We both enjoyed our lunches - delicious!! My friend said his sandwich was very flavorful, and he loved his garlic fries. My halibut was cooked to perfection and served with a slaw on a brioche bun. Yum! Our waitperson was friendly and did not hurry us at all; it was a relaxing lunch and much appreciated. We decided to spring for dessert - the chef’s own ice cream mixed with nuts, chocolate and caramel. Great way to finish a special lunch in a special place! We also really enjoyed observing the wild birds (loons, gulls, mergansers, herons) as well as an adventurous seal as the tide was going out while we lunched.
While not inexpensive, the quality of the food and the experience was well worth the extra cost to us. We heartily recommend The Restaurant at Alderbrook for lunch!
We had a special dinner with friends. Bar decanted our special wine and the food was outstanding. Couldn't have asked for a better evening.
I rated the service 3 star for a couple of reasons.
When we arrived at the reception desk we had to wait at least 10 minutes before anyone acknowledged us. There wasn’t anyone the desk and the bartender finally seated us. We then waited another 10 or more minutes before a waitress came to our table. It just seemed like we were being ignored. We got our soup and finished it before a waitress came out and brought bread and said “oh you’re done with your soup do you still want the bread.
Anyway, I don’t usually complain, but it just seemed, that this restaurant should be a little higher class.
Mother in law’s birthday
Two out of the three dishes were fair. Service was okay but we felt very rushed towards the end of the evening especially when at 10:30pm they said they were closing in 5 minutes and turned all of the lights on in the restaurant.
The food was delicious, and I was very happy to find a couple vegetarian (even vegan!) options in each section of the menu. The drinks were also very good. The ambience and the view were lovely, wait staff was warm and attentive, and we were delighted by the happy anniversary card and dessert!!
Delicious dinner and beautiful presentation. Gorgeous setting in Hood Canal with outstanding service.
All the food was lovely. The complimentary dessert for our anniversary delish. The only thing we felt jacked was the coffee with dessert. It was weak and tasteless. Coming from the state of Washington, which is the coffee capital of the USA, we were very disappointed. That is the only thing needing improvement. We will return again to dine.
Beautiful views, the clams and the halibut was amazing.
Beautiful setting. It was a popular time, so somewhat noisy. Food was okay, if a little overpriced. Service from the bar was slow. Our special cocktails and glasses of bubbly sat at the bar for at least 5 minutes. The whole idea of the cocktail was to shake it and then serve it cold. Obviously a glass of bubbly should be served immediately. We were tempted to go get the drinks ourselves! The meal service was great. Waitress was very helpful with dietary issues. The postcard celebrating our anniversary and complimentary desserts were a nice touch.
Maybe - the food was very inconsistent between different visits. The dishes that were good were truly delicious tho
We recently celebrated a birthday and wedding anniversary in the same visit. Extremely satisfied with our experience. Great table location.
Thank you both. Totally impressed and appreciative. Whomever is in charge please thank them for us. :)
My husband and I were celebrating our 45th anniversary and the wait staff were all quick to recognize that. Every single wait staff member that we dealt with were all very welcoming and pleasant. We both had the green salads, which were very fresh with a delicious dressing. I ordered the Risotto with grilled shrimp. I really don't think it could have been better. My husband opted for the Rib Eye Steak. He said it was very good and cooked to perfection. The only negative was that a family was seated near our table with a young child that they allowed to shriek (ear piercing) through most of our meal. His parents were oblivious to the fact that he was probably disturbing the entire restaurant, not to mention us, who were sitting 3-4 feet away. We couldn't even have a conversation at our table inbetween his shrieks. I mention this because it's important for people to know that if you are taking a child to an expensive restaurant, please teach them how to behave first. Otherwise, maybe a different option until they do understand?
Always a nice meal and the ambiance and location are not to be beat. Was a little surprised at the Surf and Turf being a $55 meal. Was ribeye and 3 prawns. Nice sized piece of steak but the prawns were relatively feeble. But we always love our meals at Alderbrook!! Over 40 years of dining there on many special occasions-this one being an anniversary. They were generous in serving us a wonderful desert for our anniversary-a little trade off for the sticker shock.
Breakfast was tasty and considering its a resort was a fairly good value.
Beautiful view amazing food friendly staff
Had a fantastic time boating up to the dock and ordering dinner
Food is outstanding, staff is eager to please
Wonderful restaurant with nicely prepared food and excellent service. I would highly recommend!
Great service. Meal taste and presentation was outstanding.
Mixed results from this usually awesome spot. The wife had the bison tenderloin special which was great. I had the New York strip, which was probably the worst steak I’ve ever had. The staff were wonderful and the view was spectacular. Don’t miss the gran marneir prawns. Skip the NY steak though.
Everything was great from check in to when we left!
The scallops and Caesar salad were very good. We also ordered a bottle of wine. The server was very nice.
This was our 56th wedding anniversary. We reserved weeks ahead. When we arrived we asked for a view table because it was a very special occasion. We were seated with a view overlooking the cook tent for outside burgers and beer. The tent blocked off fully half of the view of Hood Canal. Then the hostess seated 3, count 'em, 3 screaming children right beside us. This was a nightmare! Worst anniversary of our lives. Service was good, though not until we got up to leave were the water glasses offered to be refilled. Food was extremely expensive and scanty. The chef did go to a few lengths to accommodate my lactose allergy and they did treat us to a chocolate torte to celebrate. It was delicious. Best part of the meal. Not my idea of an upscale restaurant for celebrations.
The food was average to slightly above, but the interior of the restaurant is dated and the music playing across the restaurant was an out of place loud mix of rock, and heavy electric guitar. It made for a odd experience at a “resort” that caters to couples and families.
Out of our dishes the food was hit and miss; the prawn appetizer was well prepared and presented while the salmon was laid over what looked and tasted like day old potatos.
We arrived 90 minutes early and were graciously offered a wonderful table with a view. The staff were professional and pleasant. The ambiance was just what we were looking for on this special occasion. We started with an heirloom tomato and burrarta salad and the fried oysters. The salad was fresh and tasty. The fried oysters were not as good - a bit over fried and the oysters were cut into pieces and fried. These oysters are special and we should have ordered and enjoyed them raw. For our main course we had diver scallops with green lentils. The scallops were good but the lentils seemed an odd combination - not my favorite. Our other main was the ravioli with crab which was enjoyable. We enjoyed a nice bottle of Washington red wine with dinner . The desserts were delicious- key lime pie and Canal crunch ice cream.
Overall, a well-attended and very pleasant meal in a comfortable nice casual setting with a beautiful view.
We had reservations but We didn’t get to sit on our table until 40mins later. We had three kids with us and a waitress offered them some water and the hostess kept updating us how much longer it will take. When we did finally sit in our table a manager apologized for the wait and gave us 2 free appetizers for the trouble. That was very nice of them. Our waitress was great and our food was delicious as usual! We always eat at the restaurant whenever we stay here. Overall we are very satisfied with our service and food and how they treated us. It was a very busy evening in there and they accommodated us nicely.
The food is delicious and the ambiance is very relaxing. The view of Hood Canal is beautiful.
We ate breakfast, lunch, and dinner at Alderbrook. Every meal was a delight for the senses! Delicious, healthy, and exquisitely prepared!
Great place for anniversary!!!
My wife and I took a nice drive in the country out to Alderbrook lodge for Sunday brunch. The lodge is very, very nice and all the staff were very friendly and helpful. The brunch is very good if a bit pricey . My wife had a very good eggs Benedict ( one of the best she has had at a restaurant) and I had A very good version of French toast. We both had excellent bloody Mary’s that were pricey at $14 each. We crossed over and drove up the west side of the hood canal a very nice drive.
What an elegant spot for Sunday brunch! The food was great (crab Benedict, Buratta with heirloom tomatoes, great coffee, focaccia with salted butter). The views to the water were great, and so was our service. Though the resort was busy with a large wedding that had closed the place down the previous day and night, we still had great seating and great service.
Afterward we walked down the dock and found we could rent a cute electric boat. We took ourselves on a little tour of the canal. Great day!
The noise level was high, clam chowder was good, but NY Steak was just ok. Too much cressal
My halibut was done to perfection. The clams were delicious and the breakfast was equally good. The zucchini bread is so good you want to take a lot home. One person in our group ordered lamb and would not recommend it to anyone. Other than that, everyone was very pleased. We go here every year at this time and have been for about 8 years. Can't wait until next time.
The food should have been stupendous for $170, but it just wasn’t. The view is good, but the outside deck is a serious distraction. (Hindsight - the outside option might have been more fun and a better value.)
Long wait time from order to when the food was served.
The food service and water view were excellent! Thank you!
