The interior setting of The Restaurant at Alderbrook takes its inspiration from the outdoors with warm colors of chocolate brown and sage green representing the gardens and lawn of the resort. Floor-to-ceiling windows and multi-levels amplify views of the brilliant shore and snow-capped peaks of the Olympic Mountains.
The cuisine showcases local seafood harvested from Puget Sound and Hood Canal. After all, our shores are encrusted with oysters, our docks lined with mussels, and our sea teems with salmon.

The Alderbrook Inn, a favorite resort for Corporate retreats, is a beauty on the Hood Canal with majestic views of the Olympic mountain range. Power and sail boaters can pull in and have a great meal and stay at a first class resort with three floors of lodging and a world-class restaurant. The happy hours each day from 3 to 6 pm offer generous discounts on food and drink in the bar area which is very large. Service cannot be beat by the local servers. This place is a good drive from Tacoma/Seattle and so is a destination place. We were staying in a resort one half mile away that does not have a restaurant so the Alderbrook was a wonderful place for meals when we didn't feel like cooking at our condo. We will be back.
This is one of our top five restaurants anywhere and we travel a lot. We come here every Thursday for appetizers, The best anywhere especially if you like sea food. The view is the best, you look out over the Olympic Mountains majestic in the summer, snow caped in the winter. You just can not find another place like it.
Like everyone (I'm sure) we requested a window table when we made our 6.30pm reservation. Upon arrival our hostess informed us that there were other reservations arriving shortly, so she was unable to give us a window table (fair enough). Instead, we sat on the upper level overlooking the window tables, where I got to be quite chummy with a potted plant that kept tickling my head during dinner, and where my date and I could easily see that during our entire dinner there were never less than TWO free window tables, including one table that stayed open the entire time. Other than that, our food was decent (especially the pumpkin bisque), and our wait staff were quite attentive and friendly.
The staff was beyond outstanding and the setting is wonderful. The menu however is getting stale. It would be nice to see some new items to select from. All four of us had the open face crab sandwich, which we found disappointing. Rather than pieces of crab, it was more like tuna salad. The desert, an apple and pear tart with pomegranate seeds, was delicious and pleasing to the palate. Overall, we had a wonderful day of ambiance and fellowship.
Was looking forward to a great Brunch. Did not get what was expected. All three meals were cooked incorrectly and one was cooked incorrectly twice. This is a really high priced restaurant and for the money you would expect your food to be correct. 2 out of 3 meals were sent back to the kitchen. 1 Out of 3 was sent back twice. As a retired executive chef, I feel the food is marginal and over priced. The menu is too pretentious for this venue
We have dined at your restaurant a number of times for special occasions and for casual stop-by for lunches. We have never been disappointed with the food or the service.
The Thanksgiving dinner/buffet was outstanding. It included the traditional favorites, but also delightful surprises from your kitchen. Before we left the restaurant, I jokingly told my husband that I would be putting in my reservation for Thanksgiving next year before we left the premises. Thank you for a wonderful holiday experience.
This was my wife and my second visit. Our first experience was great and our second visit was better. We were celebrating our 13 year anniversary our second visit and Alderbrook Resort did not disappoint. The tasting menu was great. We both tried something different and shared eat plate with wine pairing. The service was great as well. I highly recommend a visit.
The dinner I had (chicken breast, asparagus & home fried potatoes) was delicious. I've noticed that the meals in general are a bit on the rich side, my friend had the risotto the night before and triggered a gallbladder attack. It is obvious that the dinners are prepared by a chef/sous chef and breakfast/lunch most likely by regular cooks. This reflects in the taste and presentation
We had been at the restaurant about a year ago and felt that it has gone downhill in the interim. The dishes were kind of flavorless, while at the same time having way too many ingredients. Nothing simple and tasty, just overly creative, such that you couldn't really taste what you were eating. Also, my halibut in a "chowder" which the server described as a light cream broth, was overcooked, and in a gloppy, thick cream sauce (with too many types of vegetables). The other dish was a duck confit, which, while much tastier, still had too many things going on, and was very oily. We know duck confit tends to be on the oilier side, but this again seemed over the top. Same issue with the oyster omelet in the morning (fried oyster omelet with a massive amount of hollandaise). And, oh yes, the lady at the next table over told us her homemade pasta dish was inedible and the server offered to take it off her bill. Again, the menu description of it just had too many things going on, which is why we had not ordered it ourselves. Good beet and hazelnut salad, however, and nice pours on the wine by the glass. It's a shame that it is not living up to its reputation and we hope it improves.
My husband and I like quiet restaurants and we had a 1:30pm reservation for lunch. It was very empty and very quiet on October 5th....maybe just our luck that day. My husband is hard of hearing so melodious music with low volume works the best for us. Our waitress was a pro and we received outstanding service with humorous moments that added to the service. Thanks for providing us with a wonderful Wedding Anniversary memory.
My husband and I were with our good friends celebrating her birthday. We had a special cake made and it was very good. Three of the four meals were seafood and they were fabulous! I mistakenly got risotto which was a gloppy mess, not like any risotto I have ever had or made. It wasn't bad it was just disappointing! Everything else was awesome including the staff.
We had drinks before lunch and mine was very tasty. It was a fig vodka with champagne and a fresh blackberry floating in the champagne glass. My husband enjoyed the fish and chips while I had the roasted beet salad with blue cheese and hazelnuts. Their fresh baked bread is always tasty with their special butter and flaked sea salt.
Have had lunch on the patio so decided to splurge on my daughter's Birthday. After driving an hour then being seated, waited 20 minutes for a drink. Had calamari and cauliflower appetizers and both were good. The beet salad was great. Then waited 45 minutes for entrees. Halibut was over cooked, steak was cold as was the risotto. Didn't send it back for fear that it would just be reheated or we would have to wait again. Sticking with happy hour and lunch.
We began our evening by having a drink outside by a fire pit which was delightful. We were celebrating a friends Birthday and ordered the Chefs Tasting Menu with wine pairing. The first courses of heirloom tomatoes and tempura cauliflower were delicious. The second course of salmon was excellent. We all ordered the steak medium rare as the next course and unfortunately they were all closer to medium well/well done. I had forgotten to ask if the meat is humanely raised....after I received my steak I inquired and was told the animals are raised humanely but the Chef could not confirm if they are slaughtered humanely. I appreciated the honesty and elected to not eat my steak on principle. My friends decided to eat their medium well steaks and described them as dry and not flavorful. Our server was wonderful and literally insisted that she replace my steak. It was my fault for not asking before ordering about the humane practices so I was not expecting a replacement. She brought a scallop entree to substitute which was very good and greatly appreciated! Desserts were also very good. The wine pairings were generous and nicely complemented the food. We will definitely return!
I ate 3 meals; breakfast was simple, bacon & eggs; lunch salad with crab & bacon wrapped prawns; and a delicious chicken dinner. My friend had the pasta with prawns and said it was very good, waffles for breakfast. I loved everything but wish the chef could have gone easier on the salt.
Came for lunch. My husband had the Reuben, which he said was just "ok". I had the Ahi Tuna salad, which I wouldn't order again. Tuna was overcooked; lots of potatoes and green beans, but no lettuce. Not sure if the menu stated that, but either way - was disappointing.
Highlite of the meal was the bread...fantastic, along with the herbed butter topped with sea salt.
