Everything was excellent and presented well, the staff was very attentive and we enjoyed our visit!

Even though our waiter was a little awkward, I’m just going to assume that it was his first day. Other than that, the manager was very helpful in creating a really nice surprise for my husband‘s birthday. He even set us up with a better table given the occasion.

This visit was our first and will likely be our last. We opted to sit outside to enjoy the beautiful evening and the pretty patio. Unfortunately, this restaurant dates back to the mid 90s with regards to their smoking policies and still allows people to smoke while dining. We asked to be reseated twice. This appalls me. Strike 1. Our server then came and grabbed our drink and appetizer order. Although his service was fast, he missed the mark with personalization. He never introduced himself. Apparently they don’t have nightly specials either. If they do, we were never offered them. My margarita came and it was nothing spectacular. Strike 2. Our food came rather quickly, but my side dishes were cold. At this point I was just exhausted and quite frankly annoyed so I just ate my filet and took the rest to go. Strike 3. Hard pass. Experiences like this visit are why we rarely venture away from our favorite restaurant in the RGV.

Great place for solid Mexican

I made reservations online to come eat here last night on New Years Eve for our Anniversary. Food was decent, service was pretty bad. Being a manager at a fine dining restaurant, i guess im a little critical when I go eat at a nice restaurant. First off, when I arrived to meet my husband, our server didnt come around for a good 10 min. Then just asked if we were ready to order, i ordered a jalapeno marg, my husband ordered the hibiscus marg, a pizza and steak w chimichurri, I also ordered chips and guac, and water.. the chips and guac never came. I had to ask twice for water. When our food came, i asked for extra chimichurri, and our waiter says there is no more, when the steak had some. He barely checked up on us.. and never came by with the dessert presentation. After, he asked if we needed anything else for last call, when it wasn't quite last call yet. It wasn't the anniversary dinner I was hoping for, no dessert, didnt even offer... our service was mediocre. It was a tall skinny guy w glasses.. we just closed out tqb, and drank more at the bar. Bar tender and manager were really nice. Cheers'd to the New year out by the patio. Tab was pretty high, quality was alright. Service could improve a lot

The food is as good as they say, the service too, I had the fire shrimp pasta (or something like that) and it was the best shrimp pasta I have had. Highly recommended, you won't regret it.

The kind of place you could become a regular. Friendly staff, good food, in a setting that is relaxed but nice.

Our dinner date at the Republic of the Rio Grande Valley was a wonderful experience. I made a reservation for my girlfriend's birthday on Tuesday, March 19th. The ambience, meals and drinks were incredible. Our server Zack was also very attentive, offered suggestions and went out of his way to provide an excellent service. We will definitely be coming back for special occasions in the near future!

Good,but watch for uneven tables.They put 2 tables together,covered it with paper.We spilled a drink because of it.The restaurant did replace the drink.They were very good about that.

Opentable made this very convenient to reserve a table for 4 in the peak of Saturday night dining. The food was good overall and it was a great atmosphere for date night.

Very good service and the restaurant ambiance was very nice. Food could have been served a bit hotter, but was very tasty. We had a good evening.

We sat outside and people were smoking? The service was just ok. My steak was very over cooked and I was never asked if it was OK. Waiter seemed very, very rushed and honestly, there was just nothing special about the experience at all. I would give it another try I suppose, but even as a former smoker, I was not really pleased that you could smoke outside in an area that was strictly for dining. A couple literally chain smoked during our entire meal and the tables on the patio are very, very close.

The food was good. My meat was medium cooked instead of rare but tender anyway. Great portion. Had one uncomfortable folding chair at our table of 8 and have asked to change it and it was ok. Everyone enjoyed their dinner.

2nd time, just as good. The Republic has to be seen, the decor and atmosphere are 1 of a kind.

Was a good experience food was amazing, worth the price. Waiter was not attentive, noticed he was attending other tables much more. Was able to bring it to his attention and was a bit better..

We dined indoors and ordered pork ribs, shrimp shish kebobs and beef tenderloin kebobs. Each was prepared and presented well. Both kebob orders came with the same veggies on the plate, both grilled and steamed. Food was very good and tenderloin was exceptional. We had bread pudding with ice cream and the almond taco with vanilla mousse for dessert. Both were very good. We dined in early evening and the ambiance was quiet. The restaurant started to really fill up and get noisy by 7:30 p.m. Our meal took exactly 2 hours.

The restaurant was amazing, food was great and at a decent price! Would definitely recommend the Oporto Chicken! The waiters weren’t to friendly they seem to kind of rush off to somewhere else and not really take the time to fully serve us but it may have been they were busy at 7 pm in the evening. Either way great experience!
