The Refectory Restaurant & Bistro
Our server, Eden, was excellent and very attentive. My wife had the lamb chops and I had the venison loin. Both were perfectly cooked and attractively served. Highly recommend this restaurant. Been coming here for 38 years and never disappointed.
We love this restaurant and the food and service are beyond compare. Very thoughtful and knowledgeable waitstaff. We love it so much, we are going there again in a few weeks.
We were there for an anniversary and they made it a memorable evening. Our table was reserved with a happy anniversary card. The salmon was absolutely fabulous. The seasonal vegetables were amazing and both dishes were works of art. The dessert was delicious and beautiful. We will fondly remember this anniversary dinner.
The Bistro menu is the best fine dining bargain in Columbus! High quality food , great presentation and interesting choices. Lisa was a fun and efficient server.
We need to go more often!
Absolute joy! We were seated at a table and the waiter was vsry attentive and friendly. The soft music and lighting was wonderful. For starters I ordered the Mussel soup and the flavor was outstanding. Suttle hints of mussel with a nice rich flavor amd tender cooked mussels. My boyfriend ordered a salad and was pleased. We then had a cheese board as we sipped on our drinks. Our main courses were the new zeland lamb and my boyfriend got the antelope and scallop wellington cooked to the chef's recommended doneness. It was like little cherubs dancing in my taste buds with every bite. The rich wonderful flavors and beautiful plating was amazing to say the least. This was our first visit but it won't be our last. The pricing is rather steep but worth every penny. You are truly treated as though you are royalty and the food left me in pure bliss. We were so full we could not eat deasert and given a complimentary dessert wine as the waiter remarked no one can visit and not have dessert. While it is not a place I could afford to frequent it is a place I would cherish for special occassions.
This is always one of our go to restaurants for a fantastic dinner!!! Love love love it!
It was a perfect evening! The food was beyond exceptional and the musicians from the jazz band were amazing! We had such a wonderful time and will be back soon!
Wonderful food, service, ambiance.
After so many wonderful experiences at The Refectory (including getting engaged there six years ago), I'm afraid that we have felt over our last few visits that the value has been on the decline. Where as we used to feel we were treated to amazing service and exquisite food, we found that while still very good on both of these fronts - the level is not the same and we felt that the hefty price tag that we previously felt was absolutely worth it, did not seem to be.
Always exquisite. Amazing soups and appetizers; the best desserts and the best coffee; the entrees are consistently very high quality and served imaginatively by an attentive and knowledgeable wait staff.
Great experience, as always.
We went for my wife’s birthday. This restaurant is incredible. The wait staff is knowledgeable and very professional. The food was pricey, but good.
Can’t say enough, this is our favorite restaurant!
My husband and I celebrated his 80th Birthday ! Everything was perfect. Starting with cocktails made by James and the a fabulous server, Misa. The food was suburb !
There are a lot of good restaurants in the Columbus area, and "Top Ten" lists come out that invariably put this or that trendy restaurant at the top (although The Refectory is always listed). I've been fortunate to have eaten in a great many fine restaurants over the past 40+ years, and there is no question whatsoever that the #1 restaurant in Central Ohio is The Refectory. We dined there with two close friends on March 23rd, and it was (as always) beyond words. The atmosphere is one of quiet peacefulness; not one of the people in the completely full dining room were loud, rude, or in any way even mildly annoying. Dining at The Refectory is an experience to be savored, and everyone did. And the food was tasteful beyond words. The Mussel Soupe (a specialty) was the best soup I've ever had--and I love to eat (and cook) good soup! Everyone was very pleased with everything they requested, including how well the meals were presented. If I had to find an apt comparison with The Refectory, it would be the (now defunct) Maisonette, in Cincinnati. I hope The Refectory is serving incredible meals far into the future. Thank you (again!) for the incredible dining experience.
Noise level was high this evening due to the folks at the next table enjoying themselves, loudly.
The antelope and pear tarte were delicious. The foie gras was very good as an appetizer. Our server Steve and all his support staff at our table was outstanding as usual at Refectory.
We celebrated one of my best friend's birthday last night. It was a party of 10 and they seated us in the Wine Room on the lower level. We all had a marvelous time. The service was impeccable. The food was delicious. We ended up being there 3 hours! I will go again.
6 star restaurant. We went with our 11 year old and did a 5 course sampling of the regular menu. Delicious, creative, precise meal and service. Granted our 11 year old has a wide and varied palette, but everything was awesome in this random Thursday evening!
The service was impeccable, which matched the quality of the food. From appetizer to entree everything was done properly. The list of 1/2 bottles of wine was surprisingly large and wide ranging.
The food and service were outstanding! You can actually talk to the person across the table at this restaurant. The building itself on the outside doesn’t look too good and needs updating. But overall we love the Refectory!
My husband and I have been to The Refectory a couple of times now and have never had a bad experience. This was our second time having Joseph as our server and we will absolutely be requesting him the the future. This restaurant has become one of our favorite places to dine in the city.
Our whole experience was wonderful, as usual. Food, service, ambiance were all exceptional.
We went for the game menu: Shared a salmon and tuna sashimi dish as a starter, and had the bison and antelope for mains. The food was very good (especially the bison), service not so.. Waiter was hardly to be seen, left our food sitting on the service station while he chatted with other customers for ten minutes.. We complained and they took the entrees off the bill, which was nice of them.. Sad that i could not give a five star although the kitchen was doing such a good job.
The service was poor, plating and atmosphere seriously dated. Food quality not good.
The BEST restaurant in Columbus. I cook as a hobby and the chef there is my hero!!
Beautiful and delicious. Server made great suggestions for wine selections.
Dinner at The Refectory for Wild Game menu. Shared foods included Appetizers: Lobster Ballotine Dinner: Duet of Texas Antelope Dessert: white, milk and dark chocolate entremet and opera gateau. This is one place that I never question if the food will be good.
I’ve never had a better dining experience than every time at Refectory. The food is terrific, the wine list is unique and expansive, there’s interesting history to the building, and the staff and owner genuinely and effortlessly make dining there welcoming and personal - as if they’ve known you for years and are a guest in their elegant home. They always hit the exact right notes to tailor the food and wine selection to personal tastes, recognize if there’s a special occasion, and to even engage our kids in conversation while modeling proper etiquette. I cannot say enough good things about Refectory, the owner, and its staff.
Excellent service (the servers and the sommelier) + delicious food + delightful ambiance = a most enjoyable dining experience in the Bistro.
It was a very special evening for all in our party: two birthday celebrants, one of them marking the 80th! The steps to the elevated seating area scared me at first, but it was all OK. We loved the setting and the quietness of the place. We all ordered different foods and all loved the selections. All were excellent choices.
I took my 22 year old foodie son here for his birthday. He was so impressed with everything from the aroma when we walked in to the service (outstanding), food, and wine. He had never ordered wine before, and the waiter made him feel comfortable and not at all intimidated. Lovely! The food was amazing and memorable. We will be back for the most special occasions.
Birthday. It was great.
Spectacular service and the food was excellent. My favorite restaurant in town.
Place looks pretty casual from the outside but is incredibly nice inside. The formerly church is beautiful, and well lit with candles and warm colors. Service was great. They took a while between bringing portions of the meal which was nice way to encourage us to enjoy our evening rather than rush through the meal. They don't put on the menu what comes with each main which I personally loved. They pair everything very well together. They even gave us some sorbet as a pallet cleanser and free piece of carrot cake for dessert. Wonderful place. Quite expensive, but you won't find a place that earns your business better.
I had dinner with a good friend to celebrate (late) our Feb. birthdays. We had a great time. Every bite of the food was delicious - I had salmon and my friend had beef. It was the Mardi Gras menu for the bistro. We had great service. The whole experience was wonderful and my friend and I had a great time eating and catching up with each other.
We love the Refectory...in fact we got married in their wine room 7 years ago and go back at least once a year! We usually sit in the dining room but decided to try the Bisto (bar area) for their Mardi Gras dinner. We made a good choice!!! The food was amazing, super good value and we loved the bar/bistro atmosphere! Well done!
Always an enjoyable experience to dine at the Refectory. Highly recommended.
As usual the environment was beautiful, the staff was unified as one making the experience easy, fluid and enjoyable, and the food is beyond compare. Every time we get something new that is inexplicably delicious and some standards that we can't do without. And dessert... the best.
If you appreciate excellent food prepared with great skill and attention to the fine details, superb attentive service begining at the front door, a great atmosphere, fine wines and extrordinary hand crafted cocktails and special music events of all genres the look no further as the Refectory Restaraunt is the place!
If you really want a special treat attend their Music Series. Top Notch tallent from around the globe every time paired with an amazing dining experience, outstanding service in an almost private venue that is all above and beyond any other dining establishment in the region!
You have my word that you will not be disappointed.
