The Refectory Restaurant & Bistro Ratings and Reviews
This was my second time in this restaurant. The first time was almost perfect which made me want to come back. My second trip was disaster. My waiter was almost automated, if you put a robot on his place you wouldn’t know the difference. It took forever to get the food out. I was starving the whole way. You get a single piece of bread while you wait and I had to ask if I can get another one so I don’t have to die in the restaurant. The food was great well prepared but the service was terrible.
Great ambiance and exceptional service - table service better than equivalent and superior restaurants in many larger markets. Very good wine list. Nice seasonal selection of food options for all courses. Food was good and presentation was very nice. Excellent pasta appetizer. Not impressed with 'famous' mussel soup and dessert 'tart' was a complete disappointment - definitely not a traditional French preparation. Overall, I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a reliable meal and superior service.
Another extraordinary dining experience at this Columbus gem. Tried a different menu selection than normal for me, and each course was a solid hit -- preparation, presentation, temperature, overall quality ... just perfect. Paired with excellent wine, and an unusual selection of dessert wine, wrapped up a memorable 3.5 hour meal. Exceptional in all the ways that really matter.
The service and ambiance is absolutely second to none. The servers are upscale yet friendly and welcoming. The wait for the food was a little long, but it was somewhat to be expected based in the type of food. The food was unique, visually appealing in its plating, and tasted great as well! It is a bit pricy but again, based on the type of restaurant this is, it was to be expected. Overall a great restaurant I would definitely suggest.
Excellent food and superb service. Business dinner. We didnt realize the place had closed. No one on staff even hinted it was time to leave. We were there so late, no one not once changed their attentive attitude toward us. The food and the feel of the place are without question well worth it. Thank you to the staff for being so patient. And again, we are sorry to have held you there so far past your hours.
My Husband and I had dinner at The Refectory for our date night. We had a lovely time. The food was amazing and our waiter was wonderful. He went out of his way to make our time there special. This is the second time we have been there and we look forward to going again.
I expected to be impressed and really wasn't.
Mussel Soup--I was looking forward to this and the pear tart.
Mussel soup was fabulous. Duck slightly overcooked and overwhelmed by rosemary pesto but mushroom/truffle crepes that came with it were great.
Wait staff slow to bring dessert menu after asking me if I wanted dessert. They came and said oh didn't anyone bring the menu and then took a long time for him to bring it after that. And they didn't have the dessert they are well-known for. They ran out. I understand running out of specials but not standard fare. Overall I was underwhelmed. When I'm on business trips I look for good restaurants to try and this one is not one I'd come back to.
Sadly special evening was reduced by food not prepared as ordered and slow service. This is was not the experience we have had in the past. At this price point our expectations were not met. Salads and Appetizers were very fine. Seafood was very over salted, veal and lamb were ordered med and med well and came out medium raw. Should have sent them back. Didn’t to avoid ruining the evening.
Neither of us had been to Refrectory for quite a while, we live in New Albany so tend to stay closer to home. The impetus to come over was that I won a gift card at a Pelotonia golf fundraiser. We were so pleased that we had re acquainted ourselves. It was as if seeing an olde friend! The meal was outstanding, the salmon scallops etc melted in out mouths. we will be back soon, many thanks for a wonderful evening!
It is always a delight to dine at The Refectory. On this visit, my wife and I were celebrating our wedding anniversary. I enjoyed the soupe du jour (lobster bisque), the gravlax appetizer, a classic Caesar salad (with anchovies, of course) and the sous vide veal. Everything was prepared to perfection and the plate presentations were perfect. Owner Kamal Boulos and chef Richard Blondin know how to treat you to a great experience. Be prepared to spent some money, but you will have an extremely memorable dining experience.
Unusual and tasty First Friday menu. Oxtail terrine very different for American palate, but traditional rural France and tasty. Chef an expert with pheasant. Would be a nice menu item. Likewise the truffled Gambas risotto. Attentive service by John perfect for our evening with guests. Nice wine pairings.
One of the best dinners I’ve ever had. We tried six glasses of different wines, and all of them were spectacular. We even purchased a few bottles to take home with us. If you like classic food prepared perfectly, the Refectory is for you. My Dover sole entree included a cooked “breakfast radish” that blew my mind. The ratatouille soup seemed humble on the menu, but it was outstanding.
Consider the Refectory vegan friendly. Our outstanding server Joseph mentioned that we could be placed in the hands of the chef for the evening for him to create a multi-course dinner for my wife and me. What better place to be than in his hands! It was an fantastic treat to be catered to when being vegan. We had a four course meal, starting with a fan of white asparagus and mushroom, with vinaigrette emulsion (cold plate,) followed by an heirloom tomato course. Our plat principal was a seasonal vegetable presentation, and a fruit cocktail to finish. All of this with wine pairings! Great evening, thanks!
Exquisite service. Very attentive staff. The food was outstanding both in taste and presentation. Try the veal tenderloin sous-vide. Excellent wine list. Beautiful old church. Highly recommend. We also love the wonderful dinner/music evening packages (jazz, classical).
Another amazing dinner at The Refectory. We were celebrating my parent's anniversary and my mom's birthday. The restaurant printed special celebration greetings that were on our table. Service was spot on, and the food was delicious. We eat at The Refectory often, and my dad said it was one of the best meals ever!
